This is the third ProZ.com Certified PRO Network newsletter. This publication is sent via email to all members of the Certified PRO Network on a quarterly basis to keep you updated on network-related news and developments. The last virtual event of the year for members of the Certified PRO Network has been announced for December 21, 2012 at 13:00 GMT:

The ProZ.com mentoring program, an initiative intended to provide a means for site members to meet other members who are well-established enough to take on an apprentice, work together and build translation teams, has reached 50 active Certified PRO mentors in 125 different language pairs and in 50 different languages. The ProZ.com Certified PRO Network is now open to translation companies willing to demonstrate their unique capabilities in keeping with published industry standards.
If besides working as a freelancer, you also run a translation company, consider applying to have your company included in the Certified PRO Network by completing your online application.

I joined ProZ.com as a member in 2011 and became a member of the Certified PRO Network in English to Turkish in 2012.
I thought being a member of the Certified PRO Network or not would not matter much to clients, but since then, I started to get more offers from potential clients who "knock at my door" via ProZ.com directories.
I also use the Certified PRO badge as an e-mail signature, so whenever I send out my CV, my ProZ.com profile is just one click away, and I believe this is way more appealing than just providing a plain link to my profile at the end of each e-mail message.
Another benefit of being a member of the Certified PRO Network is to be able to attend virtual events for Certified PROs only. These events represent a very good opportunity to meet colleagues and exchange ideas with them.

A common and widespread assumption among those who are not familiar with this job is that being a freelancer implies more freedom of movement than working as an employee. In practice, you can work 'when' and 'if' you decide to.
First of all, many people still do not have a clear picture of what a freelance translator is and does; when asked about my job, I simply say 'I am a translator', and most of the askers reply: “what? And what does a translator do? and how can you work from home, alone, with no employer? and so on.
