attend conferences, read newsletters, network with colleagues, etc. But I didn't find it was vital to my work. It was costing me money and interfering with my productivity, so I stopped. I don't regret the investment I made, but at this point in my career it's no longer important to me. All I really care about is thoroughly understanding the source text, producing a well-expressed target, and delivering it on time, and getting paid well.
I like being informed thanks to one big social network that allows people to exchange information, but also, and mainly, through mail lists.

See more As someone has already said, nothing much changes, as translation is not astrophysics with new particles being discovered every half hour. What you learned in college and what still remains in your brain after so many years is usually sufficient to take you through the rest of your career as a translator. I spent more time, however, in keeping abreast of the latest developments in Hindi, my main working language. Technology is another area which requires some attention, although the changes brought about there are usually something without which you can do very well - most would agree that the yearly updates on most translation software are more a pain in the neck than worthwhile. But there it is. ▲ Collapse | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How do you stay up to date on what is happening in the world of translation?
