I use the biggest screen I can lay my hands on at all times, and a proper keyboard. I don't see how anyone could translate anything other than a few words on a tablet. What (still) utterly amazes me is that Microsoft apparently didn't realise that people use more than one "app" at a time on their work computers when they designed and implemented Windows 8. What's the point? I have 2 desktop PCs and 2 laptops... I imagine I would find a tablet too small and fiddly for translation work anyway.
Look forward to see someone who does | Jun 30, 2015 |

I don't even own one and have no desire to change that. But I can see how it could be handy for interpreters, not having to faff with pen and paper all the time?
strictly for fooling around | Jun 30, 2015 |
I don't see how anyone can translate on a tablet. I don't even like laptops, hate the fiddly keyboard .... I have a tablet, but it's strictly for leisure use - reading the newspaper at breakfast or playing scrabble, sudoku and the like.

Not the kind of tablet you have in mind ...

Tablets are not as comfortable as a typical desktop keyboard.

I usually work on a desktop and, even when I work on a laptop, I plug a "flesh and blood" keyboard into it.

I have an ipad which I use mostly for checking emails, and occasionally for sending short replies. I find the tablet touchscreen too constrained for any serious typing, for which I always come back to my desktop.
No, but I really want one | Jun 30, 2015 |
I want one for reading over documents in bed. It's also easier to catch mistakes when proofreading on a different screen or in a different format.... okay, okay, I confess. I just want a Galaxy Note Pro, that's all. And I'm going to get one soon, God willing.

Tablets are, in my opinion, entertainment media tools, nothing more, nothing less. The occasional typing of an email, a Skype note or an eBay auction bid can be done on any mobile device, including tablets. The experience of long-term typing on a tablet is equivalent to trying to write on a glass surface: utterly unproductive. I do have an iPad 2, which I use to stream music, Skype (call) family members and do the occasional web search.
