This is part 3 in the Plus package rollout that began Tuesday; see http://www.proz.com/about-plus-package

Do you have your own website? It is now possible for you to use ProZ.com website widgets to engage more deeply with your visitors.

Three widgets are being released, to start:

* A widget to show your recent projects

The first widget, intended to help you market your services, enables you to show your recent ProZ.com “What I am working on” entries to your site visitors. Whenever you make a "What I am working on" posting (via ProZ.com, the mobile app, TM-Town, etc.), the projects shown in your website will automatically be updated. This will add a dynamic element to your website, which is good for human visitors and also for search engines, and site visitors who may be clients will get a sense of the type of work you have been handling lately.

* A widget to enable colleagues to "follow" you

The second widget, designed for networking, makes it possible for colleagues to “Follow” you. If a person who happens to be a ProZ.com user visits your website, a "Follow" button appears. Note that (1) visitors must be logged in at the time they visit your website, and (2) your must be a Plus subcriber, in order for the button to appear.

What happens when you follow someone? This is a new concept at ProZ.com, being released in connection with the Plus package. A soon-to-be-released dashboard (preview: http://www.proz.com/?sp=member_dashboard ) includes an activity feed. When someone you follow posts a KudoZ question, organizes a powwow, and so on, notice of that will appear in your feed.

* A widget to enable outsourcers to add you to their vendor lists

The third widget is related to customer engagement. Outsourcers who visit your site and who happen to be ProZ.com users, are given the option of adding you to their vendor management lists (a new feature) at ProZ.com. When they have done that, they are more likely to remember you, whether they come back to your website or not.

Here, too, the button will only appear if the visitor is currently logged in at ProZ.com.

-------

You can imagine these widgets coming in handy in two scenarios. In the first, a person searches Google for a translator and arrives at your website. They know nothing about ProZ.com and don’t need to… but ProZ.com services are working for you, behind the scenes, to help you connect with that customer. In the second scenario, we can imagine a person using ProZ.com jumping off from your profile to your website, and deciding to “save” or “follow” you based on the content on your website. They can do this without needing to return to ProZ.com. In this way, the potential customer or colleagues connects with you thanks to a seamless experience that spans both ProZ.com and your own website. In this scenario, as a Plus subscriber you are able to present yourself in a more customized and more compelling way.

To get these embeddable codes, go to: https://www.proz.com/web-widgets/

From the menu: [Tools > Web widgets]

-------

Note that the Follow and Save/Add widgets relate to features that are not yet fully released. Your website visitors will be able to follow you and add you to their vendor management lists starting immediately, and this data will not be lost. But they will not be able to take advantage of all of the possibilities presented by following and vendor management lists until the corresponding features are fully released. For now, if these widgets are interesting to you, please try embedding them, and report back here. We will move forward together. (More about the overall vision for widgets, and ProZ.com services in your website in general, is in a video on the topic.)

About "following" Nov 17, 2016

If you are a Plus subscriber, anyone can follow you.

If you are a Plus subscriber, you can follow anyone.

If you are not a Plus subscriber, you can follow Plus subscribers (only), and Plus subscribers (only) can follow you.

One provision on the above: profiles of type "Company" can not be followed.

Ok.
a) what would be the benefit for me
b) where can I turn it off. I am not interested in "being followed" by colleagues, neither by non plus subscribers nor by plus subscribers.

How about adding the availability calendar as a widget? Nov 18, 2016

Hi there,

An idea comes to mind from this feature: why not make a widget for the ProZ availability calendar? I've always liked it, because it's very user-friendly both for us translators and for the outsiders who check it out. It offers a very clear overview, and the idea of having "one universal calendar" always seemed handy to me.

Basically, I'm not using it at the moment because I don't believe enough of my clients would check it here. The same goes for the many age

I've always liked it, because it's very user-friendly both for us translators and for the outsiders who check it out. It offers a very clear overview, and the idea of having "one universal calendar" always seemed handy to me.

Basically, I'm not using it at the moment because I don't believe enough of my clients would check it here. The same goes for the many agencies I've worked with that would ask to fill in a calendar with my availability on their own platform, which would end up being a complete waste of time (i.e. no point in setting up tens of different calendars only to get one small project once in a blue moon). However, having a widget to use this same calendar on my website could be interesting and useful, since for the first time (that I know of anyway) there'd be a public calendar easy to share everywhere. Could that not be added to the lot?

Not to mention that it's frustratingly difficult to find a decent (and free) web extension that does it as well as the one you guys created. I mean, this social media vibe you seem to be going for is fair enough, but it really does not interest me in the slightest, whereas a calendar would actually have some practical use.

Cheers!

a) what would be the benefit for me

Having followers could lead to more responsiveness to your actions, whether that be making forum postings, asking KudoZ questions, posting jobs, uploading training videos, proposing powwows, etc. Reactions should be more immediate, and potentially more relevant (since in theory those who choose to "follow" you would have more in common with you than the general public.)

The benefit of following is that you will immediately be aware of public actions taken by people that are of interest to you.

b) where can I turn it off. I am not interested in "being followed" by colleagues, neither by non plus subscribers nor by plus subscribers.

Oops. We should know well enough to have put that in by now! We'll add that.

Agree. Actually this is an old suggestion as can be viewed here.

Some outsourcers want to be advised of availability, which is completely impractical when there are multiple places to report availability, including the Proz.com availability calendar. Making it embeddable on one's own website would create a single point to update availability.

Website widget code: Java script or HTML? Dec 8, 2016

In my website advanced settings I have two options to paste the widget code: Java Script or HTML. I tried to enter the code in both - nothing worked. I have proz. com logo appeared on my webpage but when you click on it nothing happened. Looks like there is no link with proz.com pages. Who can help to debug the code/rewrite it in HTML format?

Dashboard updated - activity feed starting to be operational Dec 22, 2016

Hi folks,

Some of you have been using the Follow feature. Now it has an effect: the member dashboard can display actions taken by people you follow, so that if a person you are connected with asks a KudoZ question, or a job poster you are interested in makes a posting, you can conveniently see that.

So far, KudoZ, job postings, Blue Board entries and "What I am working on" actions are being displayed so far. The activity feed will be enhanced to display other types of action, one-by-one. If you let us know which areas are most important, we may adjust prioritization.

To get to your "member dashboard", hover over your name at the top of the page, and select "My dashboard". The link is: http://www.proz.com/member-dashboard

The dashboard is still in a formative stage. There are bugs in the calendar and poll items, for example. But you can begin to get the sense of where the feature is headed, and perhaps help to establish direction as development continues.

How about increasing the Proz website hosting disk space? Dec 2, 2017

Is it possible to increase the disk space allocated to the proz standard hosting package subscribers, from 100 MB to say 500 at least? I am in the process of revamping my site with Wordpress and it looks like wordpress and the theme I am going to use will take most of the space, leaving very little space for actual content. I will appreciate a bit of more hosting space than any widgets!

Only social media? May 27, 2019

I am confused about how these widgets can prompt people to follow you, or does it only apply if your website is connected to your social media links?

Can anyone explain how this all works?

I have never really bothered attaching social media to my website, so would these not really work for me in that case?

Widget for feedback card doesn't work May 4, 2020

I pasted the widget code to my website, but no card appeared.
Is there an issue with ProZ site? With Java Script?
P. S. I also use WIWO - it works.
