The jobs system has been updated in the following ways:

* Job posting parameters, and notification parameters, now mirror those used elsewhere on the site. Jobs posters can now specify additional criteria when posting, including detailed fields of expertise, software tools, native languages, etc., and notifications will not be sent to those who do not meet the criteria. Job posters can specify whether these criteria are required for quoting, or just prefered.

* A new simple job posting form has been added by outsourcer request (http://www.proz.com/?sp=jobs&sp_mode=post&view=simple). This form is short and simple to allow for maximum convenience when posting a job on ProZ.com. Job posters also now have the option of saving their contact details when they post a job, so that they no longer need to enter the same contact data everytime they post a job.

* The "KudoZ dashboard" is now a general dashboard. Use your dashboard to specify more precisely the type of job notifications you want to receive, and also to flag or filter particular job posters. See http://www.proz.com/dashboard

* The page showing the list of jobs has been improved, mirroring the functionality available in the KudoZ list page. You can enter detailed criteria for the jobs you want to see, including outsourcer LWA (likelihood of working again) range (platinum-only), and you will only see jobs that meet your criteria. (Your viewing preferences are saved and are respected on the jobs list page, and when browsing through jobs one at a time.) See http://www.proz.com/jobs

* Improvements have been made to the pages showing quotes received, and also to job quoting and posting histories. See: http://www.proz.com/?sp=jobs&sp_mode=occ

* When posting a job, an outsourcer now has a preview step. In this step, the outsourcer is given guidance regarding the parameters selected. If the number of members who meet the criteria is too low, the outsourcer is encouraged to modify his/her parameters to make them less restrictive. (The reverse is also true.)

* During the posting process, the outsourcer is provided with a list of select ProZ.com members. To be included in this list, members must: (1) meet his/her criteria, (2) have complete profiles, (3) have indicated current availability, and (4) be platinum members (full or "jobs" platinums, but not "community")

* Techniques have been employed to further increase client traffic to the ProZ.com directory, job posting forms and platinum member profiles. Traffic to the directory and ProZ.com member profile pages have doubled, respectively. Note that:
- Platinum members can track visits to their profiles, including what visitors searched for to get there, by clicking on the "visitors" tab in their profiles.
- Surveys indicate that platinum members meet new clients four times more frequently than non-platinum members. Eighty-six percent of platinum members realize a positive return on their platinum investment.

* A beta release of the ProZ.com World Interprete Search is available for testing at http://www.proz.com/?sp=interpreter_search . This interpreter search allows you to search for interpreters that are ProZ.com members. You can search for interpreters by language pair, country of residence, and exptertise (marked by interpreters in their ProZ.com profile).

Hi Justin Sep 29, 2005

I was just going to write a posting about what I miss in the jobs forms, but they already changed.

Anyway, I'd like to comment about a few things (not related to this new release, sorry for that).

* About the required service, I'm surprised to see the order:
I'd put the options from the most common to the less common, that is
translation
checking/editing
education
summarization

* About the required service, I'm surprised to see the order:

* About the community's rate
If I'm looking for an English to German translator it's completely useless to be able to see the community's rates of my pairs. I'd like to be able to see the English to German community's rates.
What happens with those outsourcers which are not Proz.com members or are members who have not entered their rates?

* About whom is able to express interest
As I had to find a translator for an urgent translation I chose to "allow non paying members to express interest" but I meant that, and I'm being contacted by people who are not members, who don't even have a(n empty) profile!
Could there be an option that makes the difference between anybody and members (even non paying)? As this is a recent experience I might be overreacting, just consider that I'm thinking aloud.

* About closing the job
Well, I wanted to close the job, but I also wanted to thank everybody for having shown interest, particularly because I know some of them. I would have appreciated an option as we have in Kudoz, that when you close the question you can thank everybody.
I saw the "Add comment" option, so for the first one I added a comment, and then I saw that saying "No, thanks" was another action, but that I could do it for all at once. So I did.
But I was very surprised to see that all the bids disappeared and I was unable to add notes to the others.
Of course, I have the name and the link to the profile of each bidder, I could do that one by one, but things could be easier.
In the message I wanted to send I explained which were the criterion I used and that I would keep their contact info (in case they're reading here).

Thanks

Claudia

availability indicator not a really useful feature Sep 29, 2005

* During the posting process, the outsourcer is provided with a list of select ProZ.com members. To be included in this list, members must:
) have indicated current availability
[/quote]

I don't think the availability indicator works in the translator's favor. Now I see here another negative side effect.

Let's say I'm busy at the very moment for the next 24 hours and my indocator shows I'm busy. Therefore, my information will not be included in the list even if the outsourcer looks for a translator starting next week, next month ... Or maybe s/he is just looking to add translators to their database. Not good.

Maybe I'm only 50% busy at the moment, ie. I still have some room for additional work and might be able to accept some jobs, but not others. The indicator does not help in this situation either. If it shows I'm busy I might not receive any additional offers.

It seems to me that it is to my best advantage to have the indicator show that I am always available even if I am not or only partially - which defies the intention of the availability button.

An option to ignore already closed jobs would be fine Oct 2, 2005

Hi Justin,

I suggest adding a fourth check box on the interface to enable people choosing NOT to view already closed jobs.

Regards!
Ö.

Comments from an outsourcer Oct 6, 2005

Hello!

Thanks for the new job page which is an improvement over the one that was in use last year, and a *very big* improvement over the short-lived one that it superseded.

I agree with Claudia Iglesias's comments and I have a few more of my own:

Hello!

Thanks for the new job page which is an improvement over the one that was in use last year, and a *very big* improvement over the short-lived one that it superseded.

I agree with Claudia Iglesias's comments and I have a few more of my own:

1. While I appreciate having the most common languages at the top of the list of languages (and I much prefer this method of adding them to a list), the way the language list is organised is very confusing. There seem to be a number of tiers of languages based on how common they are. However there is no way I can tell in which tier a language will be, so I have to scroll through them all to find my language - I cannot just go alphabetically.

The original page's arrangement was in my opinion the best: the 10 or so most common languages at the top, and then all the others, with the 10 most common repeated in the alphabetic list (just in case).

2. The page seems to be very heavy on Javascript. I run on a Mac with Camino and it crawls to a halt just keeping it open (let alonw when I type in it). Safari is just unusable with it. Maybe you could trim some unnecessary code?

3. When I view the job's Quotes I have no way to access the job posting information. If for example I want to compare the test translations with the one I posted, I have to go back and forth between "job view" mode and "quotes view" mode. Maybe it would be useful to have the key facts about the post visible both in "quote" and in "job" view mode - if nothing else the deadline and proposed budget - as a reminder while processing quotes.

All in all, however, thumbs up, and thanks for all the progress!

Question of new jobs display Oct 7, 2005

Hi Justin,

I don't think my question is worth a support ticket, nor is it urgent so I'll just ask it here: when I receive a job notification and I go and view it, the selection criteria the oursourcer has defined are displayed, followed by this message:

A job notification was sent to you

But, I'm sure that a couple of days ago the message was:

A job notification was sent to followed by my name (A job notification was sent to Christine Laigo)... See more

Has the message been changed? Or are there 2 different messages? In that case, what is the difference? I did not see anything about this in the explanations on the changes.

Thanks a lot for your answer (if you have time). Other people who know are welcome to answer as well.

Christine

Hi Christine,

There is no difference, it's the same message. I have just been changing what is displayed for various reasons. It should stay the same now.

Best Regards,
Colin

Uncomfortable viewing Oct 10, 2005

Hi,

sorry to say but I have some problems viewing the new site. Even with "Font size 1" it's much larger than normal (BTW, the same applies for the new KudoZ-page) and I always have to scroll to the right to see whether the job is non-bid or already closed etc. What can I do about this?

Thanks for any hints!

Charlotte

Another suggestion : inform bidders of job closure Oct 12, 2005

Hi
thanks for your work on it.
I'd like to add something to job posting, as a translator :
when somebody has made a bid on a job and the job closes, would it be possible to send him a message to inform him not to wait an answer anymore ?
As few people answer me when i bid and don't win, it'd be faster for me to know it this way than to have to visit the site again every 10 minutes.
Best regards
Paul

Another suggestion : inform bidders of job closure Dec 6, 2005

At the risk of belabouring the point, I'd like to add my vote to Paul's suggestion. I don't know how easy/difficult it would be to implement, but it would be a great feature! (And doudtless another one to be added to paying members' benefits ...:-D)

This sounds like a good idea. I will talk it over with Henry.
