I am getting incredibly frustrated with translators work bench in the 7.1 version that I installed yesterday.

I keep getting an intermittent 'previous request not yet finished' error and the same workaround does not seem to work twice. I am not sure why I am getting the error as I have not corrupted any of the tags and have been working as I normally do (without a problem).

I have cleaned up the translated text thus far and then pasted it into a new Word document but when I attempt the open/get command on the next untranslated sentence I either get the 'previous request not yet finished' error or the concordance window opens and -{}- appears in black before the sentence.

Any solutions urgently appreciated!

* I have just found a workaround by starting/opening a new TM in workbench. I still need to discover why this is happening and why the 'fix document' function does not seem to work. Also how can I merge the original TM I created for the document with the new one? Luckily there is only very basic formatting in the Word document I am working on otherwise I would have no hair left!

Ben

Non-scientific approach Dec 27, 2005

Hi,

Why don´t you try using Ctrl + X or the Word function CUT on the curly braces that appear in your segment? Another option is to do copy source and then overwrite that sign, it will disappear. It has happened to me hundreds of times, and I fix the problem that way. If the problem persists, send me a sample of the document where that has happened to my mail address [email protected] I will try to fix it for yo

For the time being everything is working okay and I am on target for my deadline... Thank you kindly for your offer of help and if/when I encounter the problem again will try your suggestions. Once again, many thanks. Ben

What do you mean by 'copying the source'? Dec 28, 2005

Hello again,

I am still getting the same problem and it is driving me mad! I have tried the Ctrl + X and CUT solution on the brackets that appear but then when I attempt to open the next segment (even though the last segment has been closed)I get the dreaded 'previous request not yet finished' error. The 'fix document' function has no effect and the only way I can coninue is by pasting the text into a text only program (Wordpad - thus removing all formatting)and then starting again from where I left off with a new translation memory.

Any ideas on why this is happening and why the 'fix document' function has no effect would be much appreciated. Also as I now have about ten TMs for one document directions on how to merge or consolidate them into one memory would be appreciated.

Many thanks Ben

A few things to try... Dec 28, 2005

Hi Benjamin,
A bit difficult to find out what the problem is without looking at the files...

- Have you registered the latest version (Start - Programs - Trados 7.1 - Register Trados 7.1)?

- Does the problem persist if you (i) reorganise the TM; (ii) deactivate term recognition?

- What is your database version (File - Properties)?

Best regards,
Ralf

Problem opening new segment Dec 28, 2005

I am still getting the same problem and it is driving me mad!

I recommend submitting a question at http://sdl.custhelp.com and using Trados 7.0 until the issue is solved. Cutting the brackets manually doesn't help and even if it did, it's not a solution.

Also as I now have about ten TMs for one document directions on how to merge or consolidate them into one memory would be appreciated.

Just clean the document into a TM (Tools - Clean Up and select "Update TM).

Ralf - I had the same problem. Trados 7.1 was registered. I reorganised the TM, even created a new one from scratch (version 7) and the term recognition was disabled. Nothing helped. The same Word document with the same original TM (version 6) works fine with Trados 7.0.

Hi Ralf,

Thank you for your time.

1. I have attempted to register the program but the DOS window opens and as I get the following for each process 'access to reg key Hkey-classes-root/record is denied' the window then closes without any confirmation of success or failure in registering.

2. I will try reorganising the TM the next time I have the problem.

3. Term recognition has been deactivated all the time.

4. The database version is 7.0

5. I now have twelve TMs for an almost completed 4000 word translation. Is there any way I can merge these into one?

Many thanks,
Ben

Admin rights? Dec 28, 2005

Hi again,
1. I have attempted to register the program but the DOS window opens and as I get the following for each process 'access to reg key Hkey-classes-root/record is denied' the window then closes without any confirmation of success or failure in registering.

Installation and registration requires an admin account - does the account you're using have admin rights?

5. I now have twelve TMs for an almost completed 4000 word translation. Is there any way I can merge these into one?

Sure - export each TM, and import the individual text files into a new TM.

Best, Ralf

Yes I definitely have full admin rights.
I even tried disabling my AV software in case it was interfering with the process.

*I just had the same problem again and tried all your suggested workarounds but the only solution is creating and using a new TM.

Great - I think I'll wait until I have finished and put them all together.

Best, Ralf

Thanks, Ben

Sure - download 7.0 (should be available at subscribenet.com), uninstall 7.1 (via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panels) and install 7.0.

If 7.0 is not available for you, you can still use 6.5. You don't have to uninstall 7.1, but don't forget to register 6.5 the same way Ralf told you to register 7.1 (unless you run into the admin rights problem again...). Or reinstall 6.5 completely.

Be careful, Trados 6.5 cannot open translation memories in the 7.0 format. You need to export them using Workbench 7.x into the 6.x format and import into Workbench 6.5. You can also clean your translated documents into the TM in the 6.5 format; it could be faster than exporting and importing several TMs.

The "previous request not yet finished" error is a pain. Maybe it's a conflict between 6.5 and 7.1. I'm going to write to Trados about it.

Just spoken to SDL support Jan 11, 2006

I have just had a very long phone call from SDL support and they talked me through the problems I was having (see thread). What exactly did you have to delete? I'd like to try the same.

Do you mean 7.1.0.719 from trados.subscribenet.com?

Thanks.

Same problem, but with Trados 5.5 Jun 1, 2006

Hi,
Today I have encountered exactly the same problem as Ben, but with Trados 5.5. I have deleted the brackets with Cut and Ctrl + X, but the message keeps reappearing. I have copied and pasted the text below the problem sentence into a new word document, but I cannot open a single sentence. The message keeps popping up.
I called Trados, and they told me that Trados 5.5 is not supported anymore. "You should have bought SDL/Trados when we offered it."!!!!

Hi Ben,

Many thanks,
Nicole
