We are glad to announce that we have just released the version of ProZ.com localized into Latvian.

We are glad to announce that we have just released the version of ProZ.com localized into Latvian.
We owe this great achievement to a group of volunteers integrated by Austra Muizniece, Uldis Liepkalns, Freimanis, Vents Villers and Balttext. You can have a look at this worthy team at http://www.proz.com/?sp=localization&sp_mode=team&lang=lav
By adding yet another language to the localized versions of this, your language site, this team has managed to make it even more user-friendly for the translators and interpreters, language service companies and others in the language industry, all over the globe.
When working on the newly localized views you will find links to the localization leaders and team members' profiles at the bottom of every page. You are kindly invited to provide feedback about the localization directly to the localization team.
We thank the localization team for this achievement. And of course we thank you, our members, for supporting the site.

Any chance of doing this with other languages (such as Afrikaans)? Or, how about just telling us which languages are in the pipeline so that at least we know why our requests are silently ignored?

the Site localization into various languages are done by self-organized initiative groups of volunteers and I'd like to thank the Staff for invaluable support we constantly received during our work.
In the pipeline at the moment there are about 10 more languages, but no Afrikaans, sorry. For the Site to be localized into Afrikaans, somebody has to take the initiative, organize a team and start working... (It is about 100 000 words, most localization teams a... See more Dear Samuel,

Good idea. But where are the source files? Proz isn't made up of plain HTML files, but uses dynamically created pages, the source of which must come from *somewhere*, right?

IMO 25000 words is manageable for a single person, or for a single translator and one or more language editors. The last thing a localisation needs, IMO, is 10 translators starting off all at the same time and only later on trying to bring their different styles and choices of terminology into line with each other. Because bringing different translators' work into line, is a lot more work than simply giving one guy the first half of everything before involving others. I speak from experience.
There are some people who are eager to help and then give up after a few hundreds words, though. I have met many such people in the Google GUI translation.

All site localizations are the result of the generous efforts of teams of volunteers.
Those interested in volunteering for these activities should contact staff for proper coordination. I would suggest to do so via a support ticket.
