"Member" is the term given to ProZ.com's paying membership. A member "joins ProZ.com" by paying a fee to receive a higher level of service for a certain period of time, and remains a member until his/her membership renewal date. Discounts are available for those renewing current memberships, TGBs, and/or for those with a certain number of browniz points. Members get dozens of benefits and additional features in each area of the site.
When asked the main reasons they upgraded, members cite:
(1) Increased exposure to clients (and therefore more jobs)
(2) Full access to the "Blue Board" database of clients, and feedback on them
(3) A desire to "give something back" to the site
