I wrote a first version of this essay in Portuguese as homework at the university and recently finished a second version in English. I would like to publish the second version. It handles about one of the main themes in Portuguese literature, and also a much commented theme between translators, that is, the untranslatability of the word saudade. My analysis is grounded in the major literary work about the subject, Marânus, by Teixeira de Pascoaes.
