Danuta Borchardt has won the 2010 Found in Translation Award for her translation of the novelist Witold Gombrowicz’s “Pornografia,” published last year by Grove Atlantic. The award is given annually by the Polish Book Institute in Krakow, the Institute of Polish Culture in London and the Institute of Polish Culture in New York for the finest translation of Polish literature into English to have appeared in book form in the preceding year. The winner receives roughly $3,000 and a three-month residency in Krakow. “Pornografia,” first published in 1960, is set in Poland during World War II and involves a pair of Warsaw intellectuals who visit a country estate and try to manipulate the sex lives of two young people they meet there.
