Tam Pham, a member of Fianna Hills Baptist and an instructor at Union Christian Academy, has spent the last 17 years translating and typesetting the Vietnamese translation of the Bible for the common people through the World Bible Translation Center, based in Fort Worth, Texas.

In 1994, Pham felt led to translate the New Testament into his native Vietnamese so his people could learn English while studying God’s word. Using finances garnered from selling his business and buildings, Pham completed the translation in two years, resulting in three large volumes nearly 750 pages long. But with no money to publish the work, it sat in Pham’s office for two more years.

After receiving a call from the World Bible Translation Center, which heard of Pham’s NT translation, Pham forwarded the manuscript, which was reviewed by Greek scholars. They were pleased with Pham’s translation and were also impressed that he had used his own funds to support the project, indicating a desire to spread God’s word to his own people.
