A French-language study has examined and analysed the achievements of Kalima project, was published this week. The study, ‘Translation from Italian to Arabic’, is sponsored by Transeuropeennes in Paris and the Oriental Studies University of Naples ‘L’Orientale’, was written by Italian researcher Chiara Diana.

The researcher analysed the achievements of Kalima, which is affiliated to the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. She pointed out the clear leap the project has achieved at the level of translation movement, particularly from Italian to Arabic, in a short time since it was launched. The researcher attributed this to the scientific, institutional work and the seriousness of those in charge of the project.

She believes that despite the short time since Kalima project started translation from Italian, compared with experiences of other Arab countries, the Emirati experience is considered to be distinguished in the field.

The reason given by the researcher that Kalima covered what was not done by departments for Italian studies in some Arab countries. Researcher Chiara Diana noted the diverse and serious choices by Kalima which did not focus only on a specific kind of translations and did not drift behind elite-oriented, dry works. This, according to the researcher, is due to the successful choices by the project which represent best the Italian cultural contribution.
