A leading Chinese publisher announced on Saturday a long term plan of translating and publishing about 2,000 foreign classics in social sciences by 2020.
The plan was part of the country’s largest programs of academic translation and publication in its modern publication era, said Wang Tao, vice president of the state-owned China Publishing Group at a meeting held to mark the release of a specialversion of those finished translations.
The series, currently covering 500 famous foreign classics in philosophy, politics/ law,economics, history and linguistics, was first printed in 1982 with 200 works, and the number grew to 300 in 1996 and 400 by 2003.
