A basic 3-hour training, especially suitable for translators who want to know the main menaces on internet surfing and the appropriate countermeasures. Also, some useful advice will be provided on how to use free/open source tools to surf in complete security.
The training is provided on a one-to-one basis, using Skype, MSN or a standard telephone. Dates and times are agreed between the lecturer and the student.
Introduction to IT security: what is it, what are its goals?
The main menaces to It security: virus, malware ( worm, trojan horse, backdoor, spyware, adware, cookie), phishing.

Countermeasures: antivirus, antispyware, firewall, browser security, operating system update.

Module 3
What is open source?
Open source/free tools to defend your system: antivirus, firewall, antispyware, Firefox 3 and its new security features, some firefox add-ons to increase security.
Duration: 1 hour.

Bio: Leonardo Musumeci is a native italian IT translator and software localizer, graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature. He has a Master's Degree in Informatics for Public Administration and E-Government, and some professional experience as web programmer and web designer. He has also attended a Net Security Course - preparation course for Cisco Ccna Certification - and has therefore great familiarity with IT, Open Source software, Microsoft products, Cisco systems, IT concepts, programming languages, network technologies, Linux environment ( in particular the Ubuntu distribution).
He collaborates as translator, proofreader and editor with Sun Microsystem for the localization into Italian of Openoffice.org software and with Canonical for the localization of Ubuntu distribution.
