Language:English
Summary:This webinar will present a practical introduction to translating a Summary of Product Characteristics (German: Fachinformation), which is an essential document in drug development and authorization.
Description
The session has been rescheduled to September 26

In the first part of this webinar, I will briefly discuss the purpose, structure and highly specialized terminology of an SmPC (or SPC as it is sometimes called) using an actual German SmPC. As I discuss the preferred English equivalents for the German terms, I will also discuss some of the linguistic pitfalls that translators should be aware of when translating SmPCs into English.

The second part of the webinar will be practical in nature during which attendees will be asked to translate part of an SmPC and ask the instructor any questions about the translation. There will also be a short translation assignment for you to complete off-line and send to the instructor for personalized comments.

Attendees will receive unlimited access to the recorded version of the webinar, a .pdf file of the slides and a resource handout.
Target audience
Translators at any stage in their career

Would have liked better communicationSep 18, 2014

I was taking part in this webinar, which disappeared after 14 minutes. I am disappointed that we weren't informed by any means (e.g. by email, if the webinar platform couldn't be used) about what was happening - I have only just found the comment on this page, and in the meantime have wasted a lot of time waiting to see if the webinar would restart (the only message was "Waiting for organizer", which sounded as though we ought to be waiting too).

This was my first experience of taking part in a webinar and it has not been an encouraging experience.
