Introduction to Desktop Publishing, its role in the process of document translation, and the main IT tools used for this purpose.
The concepts and strategies included in the course will allow trainees to further improve their command of DTP tools with time.
Given the wide variety of software used for DTP, the main programs have been selected and grouped according to their nature. Having this software installed is not required, and those familiar with them may get a deeper knowledge of their applications.

"I have really enjoyed this course. I had a blurred idea of what DTP meant for us translators and thi..." Read mores course has clarified all basic concepts for me. It is well designed and it has given me a solid foundation on which to build up. The videos are very helpful and I've watched them several times. I absolutely recommend this course to translators who want to begin on DTP."
"This course was beyond disappointing. The scant materials (topics) presented were general and hapha..." Read morezard--no linking between them. Most of it could have been found for free on the internet. The few additional materials or sample files were not integrated in the discussion that proceeded them. The material presented was general and there was no real discussion of what aspects of DTP translators need to grapple with. It discussed irrelevant things to pad things out (bitmaps versus vector graphics) --or perhaps they were relevant but never related to how translators may need to deal with them. One of the few software programs used (for the pdf edit) was very old and there was little evaluative discussion of DPT software--which is what translators really need to grapple with. I won't mention the typos in the material (unforgivable for a professional translator--presenting a course to colleagues) or the poor quality of the few videos that were attached. Also, the software interfaces shown in the videos were in Spanish ---which makes it difficult for a translator not working in that language. It advertised 10-hours of material but I could hardly fill one hour with what was included. I am going to try and get a reimbursement for this course and it makes me very shy of signing on to another course that is not TRADOS linked. I did my TRADOS training through the site and was expecting the same high quality. Nothing doing. I am surprised that proz.com has no quality control on its non-Trados courses like this one. I strongly suggest it be removed or at least not offered for a fee. "
