Hands On TRADOS Training for Beginners.

This is a one day course intended for translators who are considering buying the software, have bought the software but have not used it, or have only recently started to use it.

Each delegate will have the use of a computer with all necessary software installed and practice files. Training documentation will also be provided.

• Location: Milton Keynes. – full address, directions and map etc provided when you confirm your place.

• Date: March. 15th, 2008

• Time: 09.30 – 17.30. Refreshments and lunch are available

• Number of participants: maximum of 10. A minimum number of 6 students is required for the course to go ahead.

• Required experience: working knowledge of MS Word and MS Windows

• Price: £180 for Members. £180 for Users until Feb. 25th. £200 after Feb 25th.

The course covers the following:

• General overview of the suite of SDL Trados programs

• Overview of translation memory and terminology databases

• Creating and managing Translator’s Workbench translation memories

• Explanation of the Trados toolbar, interface with MS Word and other programs

• Analysis of files: the concept of repetitions/100% matches/ fuzzy matches/no matches

• Translation of MS Word documents with both Tag Editor and MS Word

• Concordance

• Translation of Powerpoint and Excel files with Tag Editor

• Interaction with Multiterm terminology database when translating

• Pretranslation and Clean Up of files

• Organisation of projects and their files

• Backups and general system maintenance

• Creating a translation memory from previously translated material which did not involve the use of SDL Trados. This section looks at how to use the WinAlign module.
