Wordfast Training in NYC – Level 2

  • Dates: April 7-8, 2008 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)

  • Price: Only $325 for the first five signs-ups, refer a colleague and only $300 for both of you.

  • Number of participants: maximum of 12

  • Required experience: working knowledge of MS Word

The first day will be devoted to optimizing translation memory and glossary management and using the BTM, VLTM, and MT to speed up your workflow. The second day will focus on handling specific file types including: HTML, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and faxes. We'll also look at other software applications that complement Wordfast (PlusTools, Werecat, Olifant, Intelliwebsearch). Time permitting and depending on trainee needs, we'll learn how to create a translation memory from past translations using the alignment function of PlusTools.


Participants must bring their own laptop or rent one for the training.

Translation memory management (TM):

Attributes: preview, personalizing, database organization
Penalties: preview, personalizing.
Translation memory rule (“TM rules”)

Big momma vs. client-specific vs. subject-specific translation memories

TM Editor:

Practice using filters, practice sorting using special filters: merging memories, marking redundant entries, reverse source and target, rewriting in Unicode

Bio: John Di Rico began offering Wordfast trainings in 2006. He has also taught English and French in the United States, France, and Vietnam and is a certified JCI trainer for adult education. His main concerns are providing quality training adapted to the learning styles of each individual and meeting and exceeding participants’ expectations.
