Course description
Individual coaching in search techniques to enable you to put a polish on your work, while increasing your productivity.

For translators in any combination of English, Spanish and Arabic. Coaching will be through the medium of English or Spanish.

Individual coaching is provided by Skype chat, MSN chat, email or voice calls. It begins when you book and ends when you have completed 10 assignments. You are the one who determines the timing.

How will my work benefit from this coaching?

As a translator you strive to produce excellent work. An excellent translation is one which faithfully conveys everything in the original text. In order to achieve this, the translation must be thoroughly researched.

But you cannot spend half an hour researching a single term. The purpose of this coaching is to enable you to do thorough research and to do it fast. To get your work out on time and with the confidence that it is excellent.

I am a translator who dislikes mysteries, until they have been solved. To me, a mystery which has been solved is a beautiful thing. My detective-like nature has led me to spend a lot of time on KudoZ, researching questions for other translators.

When I start to research a question I have about 20 different paths to choose from. I estimate the one which is most likely to lead me straight to a convincing answer, and follow it. If I don't get there straight away, I may continue along the same path, or switch paths. The purpose is always to get to a convincing answer in the shortest possible time.

By "convincing answer" I mean one that I have strong evidence is correct, or one which is the most probable if there is not much reference material available on the Internet.

This coaching will be done in a "real" situation. When you have a term that you need help with, from an actual job, you will send it to me and I will suggest what approach you take in order to start your search. You can continue searching with the same approach; but if you feel it is not productive, you will report back to me and I will suggest what approach to take next. And so on until you have found an answer that convinces you.

You will present me with 10 questions in all, in your own time; and by the time you have found answers to them all, you will have acquired a lot of varied search techniques. Your ability to research your own terms without help will also have grown, together with your speed of working. You can repeat the coaching with another 10 questions if you want.
