New video on marketing and branding Jun 4, 2010

We continue expanding the video knowledge-base. Today there's a new video available on how to brand yourself as the go-to person: Be Special: Standing Out in the Language Services Industry by Suzanne Deliscar. The objective of this presentation is to help language profesionals understand the basics of how to become memorable in the eyes of their clients and colleagues - it goes from discovering your special qualities to best practices when creating your marketing material. You can learn more at: http://www.proz.com/training/3518

What attendees said about this webinar:

"This training was very interesting and full of suggestions for a translator
who wants to improve his or her job.
I think I' ll attend other trainings like this.
Suzanne is a very professional person ready to help everybody with her
training course.

For those interested in the topic, I suggest two videos that complement well with this presentation: Personal branding for business success by Marcela Jenney, and How to work for translation agencies: Competences and marketing by Johanna Angulo

Hope you find this useful!

Regards,

Soledad

Do I need a CAT tool? Which CAT tool should I buy? Jun 9, 2010

If this is a question you have been asking yourself, resources available in ProZ.com videos area should shed some light on the topic:

Added just a few minutes ago, for Spanish speakers: http://www.proz.com/training/3523 by Clarisa Moraña. You will find in this presentation a complete overview of proprietary license and free and open source software like SDL Trados, WordFast, Across, Catalyst, Déjà Vu, Logoport, MemoQ, Metatexis, Passolo, and others, with information on estimated investment and best prices available in the market.

If you are looking for content in English, you should get started with the on demand video A comparison of CAT tools by Dr. Nicole Keller: http://www.proz.com/training/3217 An analysis of the five CAT tools: SDL Trados Studio 2009, Wordfast (Classic & Pro), Across, memoQ and Atril Déjà vu, giving the viewer a comparison of the major software tools prior to purchase or use. This one is followed by five videos dedicated to each tool - you can save some money buying the complete series here.

ProZ.com also offers free webinars conducted by main CAT tool and translation industry representatives. Register for upcoming free webinars here: http://www.proz.com/translator-training/format/webinar-presentations - next ones are on Wordfast and Alchemy.

Please let us know if this was of help, and also if there is more content you would need or like to see in this topic. We are working in expanding this knowledgebase, all suggestions are very valuable.

Regards,

Soledad

104F - Terminologie juridique – Terminologie du droit immobilier 9 views, French by Suzann Delisca Jun 17

Sorry, if I leave my feedback on this video in the wrong place. I purchased this video and has been very disappointed. The subject interested me very much because I do many translations in the sphere of real estate from French to Russian.
First of all the lector doesn't speak French so good to offer the payment courses. Then her French is Canadian one, so it's a bit special to listen to. And at last the quality of the sound is very low. Listening to the course I understood only 20 % of content. The lector is really looking for the words for a long time before saying something. It's horrible. I'm afraid to buy something else because of the poor quality of sound. It's not worth of a dollar, not 15.
