About me

Translation from English into Russian for a modest pay in brief space of time. Editing, proofreading.
The superior quality of my translation service is guaranteed by my proficiency gained for 15+ years of practice. I am trained and diplomaed in the pertinent branches of industry and law. Russian is my mother tongue. Therefore, my translation is not only correct but idiomatic as well.
I specialize in translating documents in legal language mainly in the following bodies of law:
law of contract;
law of obligation;
law of civil procedure;
law of property;
commercial law;
company law;
but others are not ruled out.
In addition, I fairly often translated contracts, claapplications, claim papers, instructions, articles, excerpts from law-books, etc. related to insurance, accounting, management, the securities market as well as to administrative law, bankrupt law, fiscal law, land law, law of the road, law of corrections.

My first speciality was nuclear power engineering, therefore, translation of engineering specifications related to this area and the adjacent ones is also possible.
I accumulated experience in the divisions of the field as follows:
nuclear fuel cycle;
nuclear safety;
nuclear R&D;
nuclear waste management and decommissioning;
operation;
environmental technology;
operational training and simulation;
maintenance and repair;
plant updating;
instrumentation;
radiological protection, dosimetry and health physics;
rotating equipment.

After graduation from Moscow Institute of Applied Physics (1980) I started my career working at a Russian nuclear power company first as an engineer, head of department, technical inspector, and later on as a PR-manager. Alongside with my regular work I carried out the contractual translation work for 10+ years, principally translating texts related to the pre-operational adjustmens and launching of the main equipment; to the safe operation, maintenance and repair of the pressure pipes and vessels of the primary coolant circuit, of the main circulation pump and its auxiliary equipment; to the radiation control system; to the spent fuel management and waste handling; to the reactor control and monitoring system, etc. Moreover, I now and again translated documents related to allied subindustries such as coal, gas, hydro, geothermal, wind power generation and other renewable energy. As a freelance translator I participated in preparing forms and records presented to both IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) ASSET (Assessment of Safety Significant Events Team) Mission and WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) Peer Review held at Smolensk NPP.

Then, having graduated from the Law Department of Moscow State University (1995) I worked for the same company as a lawyer for 5 years. Concurrently I began to practise translating documents in legal language from English into Russian and by now have 5+ years' experience in legal language translating. Therefore, I have a thorough knowledge of both Russian law and terminology (Russian and English) used in the fields of law, applied economics, business and finance. For the last 5 years I have worked as a freelancer mainly in the field of translation and then, apart from all of the preceding, I had occasion to translate numerous WebPages, advertisements, business letters, booklets, bills, pamphlets, leaflets of diverse subjects, among them all fields of applied economics, business and finance.
I am also experienced in drawing up instruments (contracts, acts, applications, complaints, etc) in conformity with Russian law.

To keep pace with the current state of the art I regularly read "Nuclear Engineering International" and "Oxford Journal for Legal Studies" as well as Russian cognate periodicals "Atomic Energy" and "State and Law".
I keep in touch with many professionals working in nuclear power engineering and they will be ready to advise me any time should I encounter difficulties with translating any ambiguous terms reflecting intricate technical questions. I also have a connection among linguists and jurisprudents from Smolensk State University and Smolensk University of the Humanities and can consult them at any moment.

My major clients:
Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant and its associated companies,
Smolensk Training Center for NPP operators,
Kalininskaya Nuclear Power Plant,
Smolensk State University.

Software: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat 6.0., ABBYY Lingvo 8.0
Special dictionaries and glossaries are at hand.
My asked price (negotiable) varies from US$10 to US$20 per page (1 standard page=250 words), inversely as the size of an order. It also depends on the complexity and urgency of a job. The notarial attestation to be charged extra as may be required.
For the first time ordering it is desirable that a client should grant an advance about 30% of the agreed price (no more than US$ 100). As a rule, I allow a discount of 10% to the regular clients and for translating texts of general contents or ordinary business letters.
Terms of payment: bank transfer or check or PayPal or other, details to be agreed upon.
I am always readily available for clients, the holidays not being kept out.
In case of a large-scale order a preliminary client trial is admissible. Just send me your test text which should be no longer than 250 words. Some samples of my translation you can see on my homepage.
My rates are moderate, terms are flexible. They may be discussed. Clients proposals will be taken into consideration.
My references and their contact details (e-mail, phone&fax no., others when needed) will be sent to a client on request.
