What are economic indicators?
Economic indicators are snippets of financial and economic data published regularly by governmental agencies and the private sector. These statistics help market observers monitor the economy's pulse - so it's no surprise that they're religiously followed by almost everyone in the financial markets.
Economic Calendar
Economic indicators are released in a steady stream, usually at set times, and are mostly calculated on a monthly basis. Some indicators – such as the Gross Domestic Product and the US Employment Cost Index - are quarterly-based figures.
When looking at economic indicators, a trader should take into account:
• the newest figure, just released,
• the market's forecast of this figure, and
• a revised figure for the previous period.
If the newly released indicator differs from the market forecast, then there will usually be movement in the currency.

Main Economic Indicators
Below is a list of the most important economic indicators and a short explanation:
Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
Generally released: At the end of each quarter.
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) refers to the sum of all goods and services produced in a country in a given year, either by domestic or foreign companies.
Consumer Price Index (CPI)
Generally released: Around the 20th of each month
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is the primary indicator of inflation, or the rate of change in prices in a specific country. The CPI reports the change in an index that measures the total price of a fixed basket of products and services typically bought by the public. The CPI is also called Cost Of Living index.

• des prévisions du marché concernant ce chiffre,
• d’un chiffre corrigé pour la période précédente.
Si l'indicateur nouvellement communiqué diffère de la prévision du marché, alors il y aura probablement des mouvements sur la devise.

L'indice des prix à la consommation (IPC) est l'indicateur primaire de l'inflation, ou le taux d’évolution des prix dans un pays spécifique.
