I am a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, and a native speaker of both English and Spanish. I was born in Mexico to an American missionary family and have been translating for over 40 years. For 30 of those years, I lived and worked in Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and Argentina. I returned to the US in 2002, whereupon I spent 5 years as Bilingual Communications Specialist (i.e. translator) and Testing Specialist for Denton ISD in Denton, Texas. After that, I worked for one year opening new accounts (including translating documentation) at BBVA Bancomer’s back office in the Galleria Financial Center in Houston, Texas.

I have been an active, certified member of the American Translators Association since 2004, and have been a member of Houston Interpreters and Translators Association, since 2007. I was certified by ATA in 2004 for English to Spanish translations.

I have current experience with Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), MS Publisher, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Standard and SDL Trados 2007. I have worked in the past with PrintShop.

My mother, was head of the Romance Languages Department at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. My sister is the current Coordinator of the Languages Area at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. My late uncle, Delos Lincoln Canfield, was head of the Romance Languages Department at the University of Rochester, New York and also a visiting professor at Instituto Caro y Cuervo in Bogotá, Colombia. He revised several editions of the University of Chicago’s Spanish English dictionary and was a respected authority in the fields of Spanish Dialectology and Linguistics, authoring several books.
