| Translation - English "Barack Obama: bowing too deeply to King Abdullah?"
Did President Barack Obama bow a bit too deeply to Saudi Arabian King Abdullah at the G-20 summit in London?
His spokesperson implied, in explaining it to the press, that the gesture symbolized the U.S.’s deference to Saudi politics; this, in light of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, could be construed as reaffirming support of the Arab Peace Initiative that the Arab League upheld at their last summit in Doha.
The Haaretz diplomatic correspondent pointed out this week that there was an underlying tension apparent in White House dialogue with Congressional representatives concerning the new Israeli government. Meanwhile, President Obama signed an order on Thursday allowing the Palestinians to keep their Washington PLO office open (overruling a 1987 position statement which theoretically banned PLO representation in the U.S.).
Politico.com pointed out that this signing occurred just hours before the Jewish Passover Seder dinner that the American president holds yearly at the White House. | More Less | | Years of translation experience: 1.
