I am an English speaking South African who moved to Sweden in November 2000. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Genetics and Zoology, and have undergraduate credits in Botany, Chemistry, Psychology and Statistics. I have also studied several subjects towards a teaching diploma, including pedagogics.
South Africa
In South Africa I worked at an organisation providing grants and funding for scientific research. My tasks included the editing and proofreading of scientific reports and project proposals, as well as taking minutes of meetings and transcribing conference proceedings. Conferences/meetings centred largely on sustainable water management and the environment and included both academics involved in hydrological and environmental research and representatives of government involved in water/forestry/environmental management.
Sweden
Since moving to Sweden, I have learnt to speak Swedish fluently and started my own business, Sixty Six North, in 2007, through which I accept freelance contracts as a translator and teacher of English. During my time here I have also completed a course in screen printing (screen, digital, sublimation) and have some practical experience working within this field.
I work from a home based office in the tiny village of Raitajärvi in the north of Sweden, near the Finnish border. Thanks to modern technologies like Skype I am in constant contact with English speaking friends and family.
