C’est tout neuf, c’est tout nouveau, le statut d’auto-entrepreneur doit/devait révolutionner le web en permettant à tous de pouvoir faire du business… et de pouvoir déclarer pubs, petits travaux - et, pourquoi pas, générer du vrai business.
Je n’ai pour l’instant rien de vraiment précis en tête, mais j’ai toujours plein de projets et pourquoi pas de temps en temps des trucs qui pourraient générer du cash, donc je me dis: "tiens on va tester ça… en plus l’enregistrement peut se faire en ligne, ça devrait plutôt mieux se passer."
Le site est plutôt bien fait, même si certaines fois cela manque un peu d’explications pour les non-initiés (comme les différentes formes de régimes, etc…). On peut tout faire d’un coup en scannant une pièce d’identité.
Bon, le formulaire est assez trapu, pas mal de questions, des renseignements, etc… mais rien de dramatique.
Je remplis mon (gros) formulaire comme un gentil garçon bien sage.
Je reçois un email qui me confirme que mon dossier a bien été enregistré et que je recevrai d’autres infos un peu plus tard, alors j’attends… confiant.

Mon dossier est refusé… j’envoie un email, j’essaye de les avoir au téléphone (toute une aventure, pas réussi d’ailleurs) et c’est grâce à l’aide de Dame Tartine que je trouve enfin l’explication:
Attention, l’application au 1er janvier 2009 ne concerne pas encore toutes les activitées : suite à un blocage avec la CIPAV, (caisse interprofessionnelle de prévoyance et d’assurance vieillesse) qui regroupe une très large partie des professions libérales, dont les ingénieurs-conseils et les informaticiens, beaucoup d’auto-entrepreneurs souhaitant travailler dans les nouvelles technologies ne peuvent accéder pleinement à ce régime. Faute de mieux, Novelli a promis de régler ce problème par le biais d’un amendement législatif.
Donc, si vous voulez être auto-entrepreneur dans les nouvelles technologies, deux solutions:

I don’t have a specific business in mind but I am forever coming up with ideas, and every so often I come up with ideas that might actually generate some cashflow. I figured OK why not have a go…you register self-employed online and it shouldn’t be so hard to do.
The ‘auto-entrepreneur’ website is quite well laid-out though there are bits of information that could have been included for the benefit of the layman, such as the different kinds of businesses you can run. But it’s easy enough - you scan your ID onto the site and you’re away.
The registration form is a bit on the lengthy side - there's a bunch of questions to answer and a lot of information to submit but it’s manageable.
I obediently fill in each and every section as requested.
Then I get an email confirming that my details have been received and that I will shortly be receiving more information and so I sit back and wait. After all, what could go wrong now.
Then a telltale ping: 'Error message - transaction not recognised'
Here’s the shocker:
My registration has been refused. I send an email, I try to get through on the phone with zero success – an adventure in itself – and after wading through acres of gobbledy-gook I came up with this by way of explanation:
Please be aware: the new regime introduced on 1st January 2009 does not presently apply to all business types. Following a dispute with the CIPAV (caisse interprofessionnelle de prévoyance et d’assurance vieillesse) [the compulsory pensions contributions fund for certain professions] which encompasses a large portion of freelance-type activity including engineering consultancy and IT work, a significant proportion of self-employed persons wishing to work within the new regime may not be able to fully access all the facilities offered.
It appears that Novelli, the Secretary of State for Trade and Small & Medium Enterprises, is planning to sort this out with a legal amendment unless someone else has a better idea.
Here, then, are the two options if you want to be self-employed using these new tools:

- lie about what you are doing

Field of application
These procedures apply every time an external contractor brings in personnel (employed or sub-contracted) to the Xxxxxxx plant at Xxxxxxx or to a linked site in connection with the Xxxxxxx Product Technology Centre with the intention of carrying out any activity at any of these locations.

Aux termes de l’article 21 de la loi du 6 janvier 1978 relative aux fichiers, à l’informatique et aux libertés, la CNIL « dénonce au parquet les infractions dont elle a connaissance conformément à l’article 40 du code de procédure pénale ».
Cet article 40 dispose que « toute autorité constituée ou officier public ou fonctionnaire qui, dans l’exercice de ses fonctions, acquiert la connaissance d’un crime ou d’un délit est tenu d’en donner avis sans délai au procureur de la République et de transmettre tous les renseignements, procès-verbaux et actes qui y sont relatifs ».
En se fondant sur ces dispositions, M. Solana avait demandé l’annulation de la décision par laquelle la CNIL avait refusé de transmettre au procureur de la République sa plainte relative au fonctionnement de la bibliothèque municipale de Bordeaux et de l’informer de la suite réservée à cette plainte. M.Solana reprochait en effet à cette bibliothèque municipale de lui avoir délivré une carte comportant un code informatique sans que soient mentionnées, en violation des dispositions de la loi du 6 janvier 1978, les personnes destinataires des informations nominatives demandées ni l’existence du droit d’accès et de rectification de ces informations.
Saisie par M. Solana, la CNIL était intervenue auprès du conservateur de la bibliothèque qui avait immédiatement opéré les régularisations exigées. Mais la Commission avait rejeté implicitement la demande que lui avait adressée M. Solana de saisir le parquet. Le Conseil d’Etat a ensuite été saisi d’un recours contre cette décision implicite. Alors que le juge administratif est incompétent pour connaître des décisions administratives de saisine des tribunaux judiciaires, qui sont inséparables de la procédure judiciaire, les décisions de refus de saisine relèvent, selon une jurisprudence constante depuis une décision du 12 octobre 1934 (Colombino, S. 1934. III.41), de la compétence du juge administratif.

According to the terms of Article 21 of the law of 06 January 1978 relating to files, data and personal freedon, the CNIL (1), the French Data Protection Authority 'has lodged a complaint to the prosecuting authorities in the matter of the violations known to the CNIL of article 40 of the Criminal Code."
Article 40 stipulates that "all authority invested in a public official or civil servant who, in the course of their duties, becomes aware of a crime or civil tort is beholden to notify the State Prosecutor without delay and to hand over all information, records and documents relative to the matter."
Based on these provisions in law, Mr Solana had requested the revocation of the decision by which the CNIL had refused to transmit to the State Prosecutor his complaint concerning the management of the Municipal Library of BOD and to give notification of the follow-up to this complaint. Mr Solana condemned the BOD municipal library for having delivered to him a document containing data without the permission of the recipients of the registered information, nor the right of access to this information nor the right to amend this information. This action was a violation of the provisions of the Law of 6 January 1978.
The case was taken on by Mr Solana, the CNIL was joined by the librarian who had immediately carried out the amendments requested. But the CNIL had tacitly rejected the request by Mr Solana to take on the prosecution case. The Conseil d'Etat (the State Council (2)) then was referred to an appeal against this tacit decision. Whereas the administrative judge does not have the power to know the administrative decisions of the jurisdiction of the ordinary courts, which are inseparable from the judicial procedure, the decision to refuse the case means that the administrative judge does not have the authority to rule on this case. This is in accordance with a long line of precedents since a decision of 12 October 1934 ( Colombino, S. 1934. III.41).

Au cœur de la « Petite Cité de Caractère » de Châteaugiron, aux nombreuses maisons à pans de bois, ne manquez pas la visite du château et celle du mécanisme de l’horloge ! Châteaugiron s'est développé à partir du 13e siècle, autour de son château. La ville devient prospère à la fin du Moyen-Âge grâce à la confection de toiles à voile. Aujourd'hui, le centre historique, très bien préservé, est toujours unique. De l'ancienne forteresse médiévale, rénovée entre 1450 et 1470 par Jean de Derval, subsistent d'importants vestiges. Des six tours originelles, quatre se dressent encore : le donjon (13e-15e), haut de 38 mètres et à l'origine indépendant du château, la tour de l'Horloge (14e-15e), qui servit de beffroi pendant l'Ancien Régime ; les tours du Guet et du Cardinal (15e), qui furent sans doute édifiées par Jean de Derval et qui ont conservé leur chemin de ronde sur mâchicoulis… Ne manquez pas de rendre visite à Henriette, la cloche du château, si gravir 150 marches ne vous fait pas peur !

Bienassis vous ouvre ses portes et vous charme par son histoire, ses jardins à la française, ses douves, ses écuries, sa cour d'honneur, sa chapelle… Sans oublier son intérieur meublé ! Bien situé et bien protégé par ses douves, "bien sis" est donc l'origine véritable du nom de Bienassis. Monument Historique classé, du 15e et 17e siècles, Bienassis représente un ensemble complet de demeure seigneuriale. Transformé en prison pendant la Révolution, il est depuis 1880 la propriété de la famille de Kerjegu.

Une abbaye au-dessus de l’anse de Paimpol
Jardins de roses, figuiers, vergers de pommiers à cidre, prés salés et port abrité… À Beauport, les chanoines ont construit un domaine idéal. Découvrez une abbaye maritime fondée par l’ordre des Prémonté en 1202 dans l’anse de Paimpol. Construite en hauteur, l’abbaye domine la mer et l’île de Saint Riom. La perspective est époustouflante. Ce lieu connut six siècles d’histoire monastique, puis devint ensuite privé. Prenez le temps de faire une longue promenade dans le domaine, pour arpenter marais, landes, roselière, pâturage, vergers conservatoires, jardin clos et cloître. Cette collection d’espaces a été rendue possible par le rachat du site par le Conservatoire du littoral en 1992. De nombreuses fouilles archéologiques ont été effectuées depuis. Aujourd’hui, le domaine de Beauport est inaliénable et accueille 150 000 visiteurs par an !

Aujourd’hui propriété du Conseil Général du Morbihan, le château de Suscinio a été restauré pendant trente ans par des charpentiers, maçons, forgerons et tailleurs de pierre, qui lui ont rendu ses toitures et ses fenêtres, ses portes et ses plafonds. Depuis les chemins de ronde du château, vous avez accès à un panorama exceptionnel. Si vous savez observer, vous verrez passer des oiseaux marins : gorge-bleue, cygne, tadorne de Belon et autres oiseaux ont élus domicile dans les marais.

Initiez-vous à l’architecture militaire bretonne de la fin du Moyen-Age en visitant le château des Rohan. Avec son immense façade néoclassique, le château des Rohan actuel est le quatrième d'une série de monuments qui se sont succédés à cet emplacement depuis le Moyen Age. En 1572, il accueillit le synode protestant. La chapelle du château fut l’un des premiers temples protestants de Bretagne. Si vous hésitez à le visiter, sachez que le ticket d’entrée donne accès à la salle des gardes, les salles du premier étage donnant sur un magnifique chemin de ronde, la chambre ducale, au beau plafond, et la chapelle. L’édifice abrite aussi deux musées (archéologique, d’art et d’histoire). De l’extérieur, remarquez les deux grosses tours à mâchicoulis, coiffées en poivrière, sur les quatre que comprenait l'enceinte, ainsi que les cheminées armoirées de la tour ouest.

The town of Châteaugiron developed around its castle from the 13th Century onwards, and became more prosperous towards the end of the Middle Ages as the canvas sail industry expanded. The town’s unique historic town centre is very well-preserved and features medieval fortress structures renovated between 1450 and 1470 by Jean de Derval that contain some historically significant relics. Of the six original towers, four still stand: the 38 metre high 13th-15th Century ‘donjon’ (castle keep) built independently of the château, the 14th-15th Century ‘tour de l’Horloge’ (clock tower) which acted as a siege tower during the French Ancien Regime, and the 15th Century Guet and Cardinal towers whose elevated patrol path with machicolation projections has been preserved. And if you can cope with the 150 steps to get there, Henrietta the château bell will be pleased to meet you!

The château’s present name comes from the term ‘bien sis’ (‘well-located’), and it is certainly an accurate description of this 15th-17th Century historical monument protected by its moats. Back in 1879, Maupassant described the château de Suscinio in glowing terms, depicting its wilderness setting between the moorlands and the sea. This stunning ocean-side fortress structure was built and revamped during the 13th to 15th Centuries, and was a favourite residence of the dukes of Brittany. The château de Suscinio is now owned by the Morbihan local council (‘Conseil Général du Morbihan’) and over the last three decades it has undergone considerable restoration at the hands of a team of carpenters, builders, carvers and stonemasons who have renovated the château’s roof, windows, doors and ceilings. There are some stunning panoramic views to be seen as you walk around the château’s elevated patrol path, including the chance for some fantastic sea bird-spotting: look out for blue-throated sparrows, swans, the Belon shelduck and other marshland birds.

The sweeping neoclassical façade of the château des Rohan is the fourth structure on this site since the Middle Ages. In 1572 the Protestant Synod met here and the château’s chapel became one of the first Protestant places of worship in Brittany. Entrance to the château includes entrance to the guard room and the first floor rooms overlooking the magnificent elevated patrol path round the château, the duke’s chamber, the beautiful ceiling, and the chapel. There are two museums here as well – one showcasing the archaeology of the site and the other containing art and history exhibits. There are two massive towers with machicolation openings and vaulted projections over the site of the original four towers as well cumney projections over the west tower.

Immigration . Le gouvernement veut utiliser les inspecteurs du travail pour faire la chasse aux étrangers en situation irrégulière.
« Ce n’est pas aux inspecteurs du travail de choisir leurs ministères de tutelle. » Le premier ministre, François Fillon, a répondu sèchement hier matin sur RTL aux syndicats du ministère du Travail. « Si le ministre de l’Immigration peut avoir tutelle sur les inspecteurs du travail, c’est une question qui regarde le gouvernement et pas les fonctionnaires, dont l’objectif est de mettre en oeuvre la politique décidée par le peuple français », a poursuivi le premier ministre. Cette déclaration fait suite au recours déposé devant le Conseil d’État par quatre syndicats (CGT, CFDT, SNU-TEF, SUD Travail), représentant 80 % des agents de l’inspection du travail, contre le décret d’attribution du nouveau ministre de l’Immigration, de l’Intégration, de l’Identité nationale et du Codéveloppement. « Ce décret délivre des compétences sur le travail illégal des étrangers, explique Martine Corneloup de la CGT. Cela crée une catégorie juridique de délit qui n’est pas prévue par la loi et qui n’existe ni dans le Code pénal ni dans le Code du travail. Nous considérons que ce décret est discriminatoire. On désigne chaque étranger comme un possible travailleur illégal, c’est une provocation à la discrimination par l’origine. »
Selon les syndicats, cette nouvelle catégorie juridique contrevient au droit international et européen et aux dispositions de la Constitution et des lois françaises. De plus, ce décret met l’inspection du travail sous la subordination du ministère « de l’Immigration et de l’Identité nationale », en violation de plusieurs dispositions de la convention nº 81 de l’Organisation internationale du travail (OIT). Une convention qui garantit l’indépendance de fonctionnement de l’inspection du travail.
Il semble en effet que le gouvernement veuille profiter du droit d’entrée permanent dans les entreprises dont bénéficient les inspecteurs du travail pour mener la chasse aux étrangers en situation irrégulière. « Une confusion des rôles qui n’est pas acceptable, estime Karim Abed de la CFDT. On ne refuse pas de travailler avec les services de police mais nous ne sommes pas la police des étrangers. Nous veillons seulement à ce que le Code du travail soit respecté. » Les syndicats craignent de voir leurs missions instrumentalisées en vue de sanctionner les travailleurs en situation irrégulière alors que, selon Karim Abed, « c’est l’employeur qui est responsable dans ce genre de cas ». Une instrumentalisation qui ne serait pas conforme à l’article 17 de la convention nº 81 de l’OIT où il est écrit « qu’il est laissé à la libre décision des inspecteurs du travail de donner des avertissements ou des conseils au lieu d’intenter ou de recommander des poursuites judiciaires ». Après le CNE jugé non conforme, l’OIT pose visiblement quelques problèmes au gouvernement.

The Government wants to use labour inspectors to check up on workers without proper documentation
“ Labour inspectors do not make the rules” commented Prime Minister François Fillon yesterday morning on the French TV station RTL in response to a question from the trade union contingent of the french department of employment. “Whether or not the minister for immigration is to direct labour inspectors is a matter for the government, and not for civil servants whose remit is to action the policies chosen by the french public” continued the Prime Minister.
These comments come in the wake of an appeal lodged to the Conseil D’Etat, the highest court in the administrative legal system, by the four major trade union organisations in France - the CGT, the CFDT, SNU-TEF and SUD Travail –together representing the views of 80% of labour inspectors. The appeal was made against a Government ruling concerning the jurisdiction of the new minister of immigration, integration, national identity and co-development.
“This ruling outlines the areas of jurisdiction on workers without proper documentation” explained Martine Corneloup of the CGT (Confédération General du Travail). “It creates a category of indictable offence that isn’t provided for in French law, and exists neither in the criminal code nor the employment code. It is our opinion that this ruling is discriminatory. Every foreigner is viewed as a potential illegal alien. The ruling is an incitement to ethnic discrimination”.
The trade unions say that this new legal category contravenes European and international law as well as the provisions enshrined in the French constitution and in French law. Moreover, this ruling places labour inspectors within the jurisdiction of the ministry for ‘immigration and national identity’ thereby violating a number of provisions outlined in the agreement number 81 of the ILO (International Labour Organisation). This agreement guarantees the independence of the role of the labour inspector.
What seems to be happening is that the Government is looking to exploit the labour inspectors’ right to freely enter a business premise to hunt down illegal workers.
“This is an unacceptable blurring of roles” said Karim Abed of the CFDT (Confédération Française Démocratique du Travail). “We are not refusing to work with the police but having said that, we are not immigration police. We simply ensure adherence to the employment code“. The workers’ organisations fear that their role could be exploited with a view to penalising workers without proper documentation whereas in fact – according to Karim Abed - “It’s the employer who is responsible for this kind of thing”. This kind of exploitation would contravene Article 17 of the OIT’s agreement number 81 which states that “It shall be left to the discretion of labour inspectors to give warning and advice instead of instituting or recommending proceedings”
Bearing in mind the repeal of the new job contract, it looks like the ILO could be a real headache for the Government.

At least two-thirds of the board of directors should agree to the transfer or assignment.
In order to obtain the agreement of the board of directors, the application for consent to the transfer should be submitted to the Company. The application should include the family names, the first names and the address of the assignee, as well as the proposed amount of shares to be transferred and the price at which the shares are to be transferred. Consent can be either by notification, otherwise consent is assumed to have been given if there is no response within three months of the application being lodged.
Should the Company not agree to the transfer of shares to the proposed assignee, then the board reserves the right to acquire the shares either via a shareholder or third party or - with the consent of the assignor - directly by the Company thus benefiting from any associated advantage, unless the applicant withdraws his application on the grounds of his rejection of an expert analysis, detailed below, or for another reason. Crise du tourisme aux Antilles françaises
Accueil discutable, mauvais état du parc hôtelier, manque de diversification de la clientèle : plusieurs facteurs expliquent la mauvaise santé du tourisme dans les Antilles françaises. Une situation qui perdure depuis 1999 sur fond de crise du transport aérien français vers ces départements. Air Calypso a fermé ses portes en Martinique, Air Guyane connaît des difficultés, Air Lib n'a pas la confiance des tour-opérateurs et Air France n'a pas augmenté son offre mais ses tarifs. L'unique compagnie aérienne américaine a d'ailleurs quitté la Martinique en 1999.
Or, 60 % des touristes qui se rendent en Guadeloupe et 86 % en Martinique viennent de la métropole. Si elles veulent être moins prisonnières des aléas du secteur aérien français, les îles de la Caraïbe doivent se faire connaître à l'étranger. A l'image de la Réunion qui a entrepris des actions de promotion vers la Belgique et l'Allemagne avec le soutien de l'Etat.
Mais les problèmes du transport aérien ne suffisent pas à expliquer la désaffection dont souffrent les Antilles françaises. En trois ans, la Martinique a perdu 25 % de ses touristes. La fréquentation des croisiéristes sur l'île est en nette régression, elle aussi, même si 2002 devrait amorcer une légère reprise. Ceux-ci ont tendance à délaisser la Martinique et la Guadeloupe, insatisfaits par la qualité de l'accueil et des prestations à terre. En 2001, les croisières ont chuté de 30 % et le nombre de passagers par escale ne cesse de baisser.
Une étude d'opinion menée par l'Agence régionale pour le développement en Martinique (ARDTM) montre que les prix de l'hébergement et de la restauration sont jugés excessifs par les touristes. Un grief qui ne peut que s'amplifier face à la concurrence agressive de destinations caribéennes, comme Cuba ou Saint-Domingue, où le faible coût de la main-d'œuvre permet de vendre moins cher des services de même qualité. Pour faire face à cette nouveauté, le Ministère du Tourisme prévoit de valoriser le patrimoine culturel et historique. La relative bonne santé de l'île de la Réunion qui a développé avec profit l'écotourisme sert d'exemple.

There are many factors contributing to the sorry state of tourism in the French Antilles - among them the lukewarm tourist reception, the lack of diversity in its visitor profile and
the poor maintenance of the hotel complex. This predicament has been ongoing since 1999, and its roots lie in the problems faced by the French airline industry in what is in effect French territory. Air Calypso no longer operates out of Martinique, and Air Guyana is experiencing difficulties. Tour operators have lost their faith in Air Liberté (or Air Lib as it is known locally) and Air France has upped its fares but has yet to up its game. And as for the American companies - the only one to fly to Martinique pulled out in 1999.
Bear in mind 60% of visitors to Guadeloupe and 86% of those to Martinique are from mainland France. If the Caribbean islands want to break free from the ball and chain that is the French airline network, they will have to raise their profile beyond France. They could do worse than take a leaf out of the Reunion Islands' plans for the future, who have launched state-backed promotional campaigns in Belgium and Germany.
But the woes of the airline industry alone can't explain the gloom hanging over the French Antilles. Over the last three years Martinique has lost 25% of its tourists. Cruise ship visits are down overall despite 2002 figures suggesting a slight upturn so far. Cruise ship passengers appear to be abandoning Martinique and Guadeloupe, unhappy with the lacklustre reception and poor services onshore. In 2001 cruise ship visits plunged by 30% and the visitor numbers for onshore excursions are in freefall.
The results of a survey carried out by the Regional Agency for the Development in Martinique (ARDTM: Agence Régionale pour le Développement en Martinique) show that tourists consider the price of accommodation and eating out to be excessive. These complaints will only increase as Caribbean destinations such as Cuba and Santa Domingo move in on the competition. Lower operational costs in these Caribbean destinations enable the same services to be sold at a lower price.
In order to square up to these new challenges, the Minister of Tourism has pledged to capitalise on the cultural and historical heritage of Martinique. The fortunes of the Reunion Islands are relatively buoyant following the development of a profitable ecotourism model, and this could serve as an example to others.

Près d’une centaine de versions du Black Hawk sont sorties à ce jour des usines Sikorsky l’un des chefs de file des hélicoptéristes mondiaux. Aujourd’hui, avec sa version i, Sikorsky, filiale du groupe United Technologies Inc. veut fournir une plateforme mondiale unique et multifonctionnelle.
Hélicoptère lourd de la classe des 10 tonnes, le S70 est la version export des célèbres UH-60 Black Hawk et SH-60 Sea Hawk en service dans les armées américaines. Toujours en service, cet hélicoptère de transport, à la silhouette si reconnaissable, a été utilisé sur bon nombre de théâtres d’opérations dans le monde et exporté dans tout autant de configurations depuis 1979, date de sa mise en service.
A l’origine déjà cet appareil, destiné à être l’hélicoptère utilitaire de l’armée américaine, fut conçu pour assurer tout autant les missions de transport de troupes, d’évacuation médicale, de reconnaissance et d’attaque. Capable, outre son équipage de trois personnes, d’emmener 11 personnels équipés ou 4 civières, le UH-60A offre une capacité d’emport largement supérieure à son prédécesseur le Huey.
Aujourd’hui au sein de l’US Army, chaque machine passe, depuis 2002, par un programme de modernisation qui permet de valider l’intégrité de la cellule, mettre à niveau l’avionique et adapter les différents systèmes de manière à maintenir en conditions opérationnelles encore 15 à 20 ans.
20 appareils/an d’ici 2012
Les versions Pave Hawk MH-60 A,G,K, L ou R sont des appareils dérivés du UH-60A qui illustrent cette mise à niveau déclinée, à l’origine, pour les opérations spéciales. L’équipement comprend caméra FLIR, brouilleur infrarouge et réservoirs supplémentaires. C’est avec le MH-60S que Sikorsky travaille à l’uniformisation de son modèle phare. Ainsi, le Knight Hawk devient un subtil mélange des versions terrestres et marines. Il reprend la structure du Black Hawk et les turbines et éléments dynamiques du Sea Hawk comme les pales et poutre de queue repliables et son train renforcé. Glass cockpit, cartographie numérique ou système infrarouge à 360° complètent les capacités de projection de l’appareil.
Avec près de trente pays utilisateurs, Sikorsky peut compter sur un parc à renouveler important dont le sud est asiatique constitue le principal marché, la Corée du Sud restant l’utilisateur étranger le plus important avec, environ, 150 unités en service. La version C, destinée à un usage civil, fut commandée, entre autres, par la Chine et Taïwan. Ces commandes, au même titre que pour les différentes appellations militaires, seront les prémices de l’intérêt grandissant pour une plateforme à voilure tournante unique aisément adaptable.
Ainsi naquit en 2007 le projet de version internationale du S-70i Black Hawk, en même temps que l’acquisition de PZL Mielec, historique constructeur polonais de voilure fixe. La stratégie affichée de Sikorsky est double pour que PZL devienne une pièce maitresse de son développement mondial : Devenir le centre de pièces détachées du constructeur américain pour ses clients internationaux et parallèlement, produire le S70i à une vingtaine d’exemplaires par an d’ici 2012.
Sikorsky Aircraft, nommé investisseur de l’année par la chambre de commerce américaine en Pologne en 2008, combine ainsi sur le territoire polonais un investissement financier mais aussi et avant tout, un fort potentiel humain et technologique, fruit d’un passé aéronautique fort. De plus, l’Europe réunit, outre sa position géographique, des atouts non négligeables, comme une présence de 8000 personnes dédiées à l’aéronautique du groupe United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney et Sikorsky Aircraft.
Inscrit dans l’héritage de Sikorsky
Avec l’arrivée dans la gamme du S70i l’esprit Sikorsky est donc bien vivant, comme le précise Debra A. Zampano, responsable des programmes militaires internationaux au sein de Sikorsky, qui voit cet hélicoptère « prendre la bonne place dans la communauté internationale comme le Black Hawk de toutes les nations ». Il est vrai que la configuration standard de base du nouvel appareil regroupe l’ensemble des derniers pré requis d’un hélicoptère militaire moderne : Double système digital de contrôle en vol couplé au directeur de vol dernière génération, Un GPS/INS avec cartes numériques qui permet une aide accrue à la navigation tactique mais aussi un système de contrôle actif des vibrations qui accroit la durée de vie des principaux composants dynamiques. Enfin, motorisé par la dernière turbine 701D de chez General Electric, le Black Hawk international triple sa fiabilité avec une résistance accrue à la corrosion par rapport à l’ancien modèle.
A l’instar des constructeurs automobiles et leurs modèles produits sous différentes marques, Sikorsky utilise donc une plateforme unique pour délivrer des configurations multiples, du transport de troupes ou de la surveillance des frontières aux clients VIP en passant par la lutte incendie. Les différentes options possibles ne changent rien aux performances qui sont égales à celles de la toute dernière génération américaine, le UH-60M, dont l’US Army a commandé 1227 exemplaires sur les vingt ans à venir. Ajoutés aux économies d’échelle et à la rationalisation des coûts de maintenance et d’exploitation, le constructeur d’origine ukrainienne dispose depuis trente ans maintenant d’un formidable retour d’expérience de la part d’utilisateurs variés.
En allant à l’essentiel, le constructeur commercialise ainsi un appareil moderne et robuste, personnalisable et adaptable à de multiples missions. La stratégie de pénétration de marché de l’hélicoptère lourd de dix tonnes livré pour le prix d’un appareil de la classe inférieure des six-huit tonnes, tel est le crédo de Sikorsky pour développer la flotte mondiale de cet hélicoptère de légende.

The S-70i : Sikorsky inaugurates the first Black Hawk international

Nearly a hundred Black Hawk versions have come out of Sikorsky manufacturing plants, one of the leading names in the helicopter industry. Sikorsky, the United Technologies Inc. subsidiary, has now launched its i version providing a unique new multifunctional global template for the industry.
The S70 is the export version of the celebrated UH-60 Black Hawk and SH-60 Sea Hawk in service with the US Armies. This heavy 10 ton class transport helicopter’s instantly recognisable shape has featured on many theatres of operation globally and has been exported in almost as many configurations since 1979, the year it first went into service.
The aircraft was always designated as a US Army utility helicopter right from the outset, and was designed to carry out a wide variety of missions including troop transportation, medical evacuation, reconnaissance, and attack. The UH-60A’s loading capacity is better than its predecessor the Huey and can carry 11 personnel and their equipment or 4 stretchers together with its three-person crew.
Since 2002 every one of the helicopters at the US Army has been put through a modernisation programme in which the airframe integrity is checked, the avionics updated, and the systems adapted to ensure operational capability for another 15 to 20 years.
20 aircraft a year to 2012
The Pave Hawk versions A, G, K, L and R are derivatives of the UH-60A, and demonstrate the updating of the aircraft that has been ongoing, originally begun to enable the aircraft to carry out special operations. The equipment on board includes FLIR camera, infrared jammer and additional tanks. The MH-60S is the aircraft on which Sikorsky is working towards a flagship model standardisation, and the Knight Hawk is a careful blend of the terrestrial and offshore versions. The structure is Black Hawk and the turbines and dynamic parts are Sea Hawk including the blades, the folding tail pylon, and the fixed landing gear. A glass cockpit, digital mapping systems, and 360° infrared systems provide the aircraft with the forecasting capabilities it needs.
Thirty countries use the aircraft, so Sikorsky can certainly count on a decent renewable fleet. The southeast Asian market is probably the most significant, with South Korea still the largest foreign user with 150 units in service. China and Taiwan are among those that have placed orders for the C version, for civilian usage. Civilian and military orders being roughly equal, the total tally is a clear indication of the growing interest in a unique rotary wing aircraft that is easily adapted.
And thus was born the international version project in 2007: the S-70i Black Hawk. The project began at the same time as PZL Mielec was acquired, the historic Polish manufacturer of fixed wing aircraft. Sikorsky’s business strategy is twofold here, with PZL in line to become a lynchpin in Sikorsky’s global development strategy. PZL will become a centre for spare parts for the American manufacturer’s international clients, and will produce some twenty copies a year of the S70i by 2012.
Sikorsky Aircraft was named investor of the year in 2008 by the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland and have certainly benefited the country on two fronts – by its financial investment of course, but perhaps more importantly by what it brings in terms of transmitted knowledge and technological know-how, both acquired through a long history in the aeronautical industry. The geographical location is a bonus, but the presence in Europe of 8000 personnel from the United Technologies group, Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky Aircraft dedicated to the aeronautical industry is what represents a real triumph for the country and for the industry.
Part of Sikorsky’s heritage
The S70i range is evidence if it were needed that the Sikorsky spirit is alive and kicking, and Sikorsky International military programmes manager Debra A. Zampano sees the S70i “take its rightful place in the international community as the Black Hawk for all nations.” The standard configuration for the new aircraft brings together all the most recent features of a modern military helicopter as standard, including dual digital control systems together with next generation flight management systems, GPS/INS with digital mapping for improved tactical navigation, and an active vibration control system that increases the life of the main dynamic parts. The latest General Electric 701D provides the power for the Black Hawk international, thereby trebling reliability with its improved corrosion resistance compared to the old model.
Sikorsky is using a unique template as a basis for multiple configurations, not unlike car manufacturers who produce a variety of models under different brands. The possibilities include troop transportation, border surveillance, VIP clients, and fire-fighting. The many options available do not make any difference to the performance of the aircraft, which is next generation American level across the board, specifically the UH-60M, for which 1227 copies over the next two decades have been ordered by the US Army. The Ukraine-origin manufacturer will benefit from economies of scale and a rationalisation of maintenance and operational costs as well as the opportunity to benefit from what will be thirty years of experience working with a variety of users.
Essentially, the manufacturer is producing an aircraft that is modern, robust, easy to personalise, and adaptable for multiple missions. Sikorsky’s strategy is to penetrate the ten ton heavy helicopter market with machines priced along the lines of a lower spec six to eight ton machine. The value this presents is Sikorsky’s business creed, and it is a strategy that is set to grow the global fleet of this most legendary of helicopters.

Aircraft Interiors Expo fête ses dix ans à Hambourg
C’est dans un contexte économique morose que se sont retrouvés l’ensemble des professionnels de l’aménagement intérieur lors de la dixième édition de l’Aircraft Interiors Expo à Hambourg (HAIE). Malgré tout, ce rendez-vous a marqué un semblant de retour à l’optimisme dans ce secteur de l’aérien, qui est, et sera pour l’ensemble des transporteurs, tant dans le domaine de la ligne que de l’aviation d’affaires, l’atout gagnant face à la concurrence. Retour sur les points forts de ce salon où innovations et technologies ont préparé chaque visiteur de l’HAIE au transport aérien de demain.
Pour son dixième anniversaire, l’Aircraft Interiors Expo 2009 qui s’est tenu du 31 mars au 02 avril, aura réuni pas moins de 500 exposants et accueilli malgré tout plus de 8 000 visiteurs (mais bien en deçà de la précédente édition qui avait accueilli 12 000 personnes). En cette année particulière touchant entre autre de plein fouet le secteur de l’aérien, il fallait noter une tendance à l’élargissement des gammes Business et First, avec la généralisation des nouvelles Premium Economy Class. En d’autres termes, une classe se situant entre l’éco classique et la Business Class, de moins en moins fréquentée par les hommes d’affaires. En effet, face à la baisse significative1 des passagers hautes contributions qui représentent souvent la moitié du chiffre d’affaires réalisé par les compagnies, ces dernières ont donc dû réinventer un nouveau type de classe pour satisfaire aux demandes des entreprises de moins en moins enclines à investir dans les dépenses de déplacements de leurs cadres. Dans les faits, cette nouvelle tendance, a pu bénéficier des avancées techniques et technologiques mises en avant pour les classes Business et First, qui depuis maintenant deux ans, n’ont eu de cesse d’évoluer à la demande des compagnies aériennes. Ces dernières se sont en effet livrées une guerre sans merci dans ce segment de marché, drainant une « bulle spéculative » quant aux multiples services et produits offerts à leur clientèle. L’effet A380, n’est en outre pas étranger à cette mouvance du « toujours plus » et a permis de mettre en pratique un ensemble d’innovations dans ces classes hautes contributions, afin de proposer à la clientèle un véritable espace de vie à bord, à l’image des douches offertes par Emirates et conçues par la société Dasell. Pour l’heure, la place est désormais faite à cette quatrième classe qu’Air France-KLM va mettre en place fin 2010 sur ses vols long-courriers à l’instar d’autres compagnies comme Virgin Atlantic, British Airways ou Japan Airlines qui pour leur part ont déjà anticipé le mouvement de cette tendance.
De nouvelles suites
Le salon a permis également d’offrir aux professionnels et aux visiteurs les dernières innovations en matière de cabines. Le rendez-vous a ainsi permis de découvrir les dernières productions de ce que seront les espaces « First » et « Business » de demain avec notamment la présentation de plusieurs concepts de cabines par la société EADS Sogerma, dont la toute nouvelle Super First Class Ultimate 17. Cette cabine sortie tout droit de l’inspiration du designer français Jacques Pierrejean, a été développée sur une période de dix ans. Elle proposera un concept novateur mêlant un espace privé conséquent, d’importantes et astucieuses zones de rangements ainsi que de nombreux systèmes IFE (In-flight Entertainment) innovants. Si cette dernière a été révélée à la presse et à certains acteurs du marché, elle ne devrait cependant être dévoilée officiellement qu’en fin d’année lors du prochain salon Aircraft Interiors de Hong Kong. La société basée à Rochefort a par ailleurs exposé son concept Business Premium « Solstys », marqué également du sceau des bureaux de Pierrejean Design. Cet espace mis en place au sein des appareils de la compagnie Ethiad dans sa classe « Business » Pearl, permet une inclinaison du siège à 180° afin de proposer un lit conceptuel sur les vols long-courriers. La cabine au design très épuré, a permis à la compagnie d’Abu Dhabi de recevoir durant le salon, le titre de la meilleure Business Class 2009 via un jury composé de professionnels de l’aérien. En outre, durant le salon, EADS-Sogerma a signé une lettre de coopération avec Lufthansa Technik pour la mise en place du concept de fauteuil combiné « Aerosleeper » dans la nouvelle cabine « Super First Class Ultimate 17 » ; une option permettant d’intégrer un lit sur le siège via un matelas intégré dans la cabine et positionnable lorsque le siège est en position horizontale. Dans le même temps Sicma, filiale de Zodiac a présenté un tout nouveau concept de business class équipé d’un véritable lit. Son nom MYAH pour « Make Yourself at Home » est définitivement marqué par la présence d’un fauteuil et d’un lit séparé dans un seul espace. Cette petite révolution devrait voir le jour dans les deux ans à venir et suscite d’ores et déjà un réel intérêt auprès de nombreuses compagnies.
L’aviation d’affaires : un marché au cœur de l’innovation
Si l’ensemble de l’actualité révélée durant le salon donne la part belle aux innovations pour le marché de la ligne, il n’en demeure pas moins que l’aviation d’affaires est une niche importante et l’embryon de nombreux concepts aujourd’hui mis en place dans l’aviation commerciale. De fait, l’aviation d’affaires est un secteur qui compte, notamment pour Lufthansa Technik qui a profité de l’événement pour inaugurer son tout nouveau centre de recherches et d’innovations cabines situé sur le site de l’aéroport d’Hambourg. Cet espace de 6 500 m² rappelant dans son ensemble le profilé d’une voilure d’avion, est monté sur cinq niveaux équivalent à chaque phase de développement d’un produit, allant de sa réflexion au 5ème étage aux laboratoires de test et à sa production au premier. Au sein du centre qui comprend 200 collaborateurs dont 60 ingénieurs, sont développés des produits innovants le plus souvent destinés à la gamme d’aviation d’affaires et du marché VIP. On peut ainsi y retrouver notamment les équipes du laboratoire d’études en charge des différents systèmes IFE à l’instar du concept de visualisation de cartes en 3D « niceview », du système portable « nice » développé pour le Global 5000 et le Global Express ainsi que les ingénieurs en charge du développement du système audio « Trim Panel Speaker », spécialement étudié pour être intégré dans l’ensemble de la cabine et ce, de manière invisible derrière les panneaux. Ce centre qui a valu à Lufthansa un investissement proche des 10 millions d’euros devrait permettre à la société de s’affirmer un peu plus comme le leader mondial de l’innovation cabine. Mais outre la conception et la réalisation de nouveaux produits, dans un marché en perpétuelle course à l’innovation, l’intégration de l’ensemble de ces derniers est également un marché en plein devenir. Différentes sociétés spécialisées dans l’étude de l’intégration des aménagements intérieurs sont ainsi de plus en plus sollicitées. La visualisation 3D et l’expertise d’une parfaite homogénéisation des cabines dans le processus d’aménagement se révèlent être un gain important dans les coûts de complétion. De fait, la société Case4de basée à Hambourg, a ainsi pu se démarquer de la concurrence en relevant le défi d’une parfaite intégration des éléments d’aménagements intérieurs du premier A380 VIP destiné au prince saoudien, Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al saud. L’espace proposé par ce « palace volant », permet pour la première fois de laisser libre cours à la réalisation d’un aménagement intérieur et d’un design totalement novateur. Ce dernier réalisé par la société anglaise Design Q ouvre de fait un large spectre d’innovations techniques et technologiques telles que la réalisation d’un hammam ou la mise en place d’un ascenseur révolutionnaire pour accéder au pont supérieur.
Des toiles de maîtres dans son appareil
Si la définition du palace volant est aujourd’hui bel et bien concrétisée avec le projet du 380VIP, nombre de propriétaires d’appareils bien moins importants se sont peut-être interrogés sur la pertinence d’une possible intégration d’un mobilier de style Louis XV et de toiles de maîtres. Il est aujourd’hui possible grâce à la société EAD Aerospace d’intégrer un mobilier à l’origine non adapté à l’aérien. Si lors du salon, EAD Aerospace exposait un Picasso original et jusque là inconnu du public, on pouvait noter également la présence d’une commode Louis XIV et d’une horloge de style Louis XVI. La société française a ainsi pu réaliser l’installation de mobiliers à l’aide de collections privées dans le plus pur style Napoléon III dans une cabine de Falcon 900EX. Ces aménagements sont le fruit d’un travail entre EAD et un directeur artistique, un designer d’intérieurs et de nombreux experts d’arts anciens et contemporains.
Le salon dans son ensemble aura comme à l’accoutumée mis en exergue de nouveaux concepts aux designs toujours plus originaux et au plus près des besoins des passagers. Cependant, l’innovation d’aujourd’hui passe également par des concepts alliant esthétisme épuré à l’utilisation de nouvelles textures plus solides mais également plus légères et visibles sur l’ensemble des classes éco et « hautes contributions ». Cette nouvelle donne joue à l’heure des économies un rôle essentiel aussi bien dans les coûts liés aux dépenses de carburant des compagnies aériennes ou des propriétaires de jets, que dans la protection de l’environnement. Car bien au-delà des apparences, le salon aura allié peut-être un peu plus encore cette année technologies et environnement afin de répondre à des lendemains toujours incertains et autorise à penser que la crise aura sans doute permis à de nombreuses sociétés d’intégrer définitivement le paramètre « vert » à l’élaboration de leurs produits.

Aircraft Interiors Expo celebrates its tenth birthday in Hamburg
The economic outlook was bleak as the top people in the aircraft interiors industry gathered for the 10th Hamburg Aircraft Interiors Expo (HAIE). And yet in spite of the storm clouds brewing outside, the gathering marks a renewed optimism in the sector, which can only be a good thing in an environment that is competitive for all carriers, commercial and business aviation alike. Visitors to the HAIE were given the opportunity to see for themselves the innovations and technological initiatives being showcased, providing a window on the next generation of air transport.
The Aircraft Interiors Expo 2009 was held between 31st March and 02nd April, during which time the Expo’s 500 exhibitors were visited by over 8,000 visitors despite the gloomy economic outlook – though this figure is some way south of the 12,000 visitors last year. 2009 has been a turbulent year for industry in general, including the airline industry, and one of the features of the airline sector this year has been a greater elasticity in the concept of First and Business class with a trend towards the new Premium Economy Class, a travelling class which positions itself somewhere between old-style economy class and Business Class (far less often occupied by businessmen than used to be the case). Faced with a significant drop in high yield passenger figures - who in many cases accounted for half an airline company’s turnover – these same companies have had to create an entirely new travelling class to meet the demands of companies much less willing these days to spend money sending their staff on business trips.
As it turns out, this tendency may well be a good thing for the advances in technology geared towards Business and First Class product development - advances which have been a couple of years in the making now. Airline companies have been engaged in a series of futile battles in the war to win the Business and First Class crown, resulting in a sort of speculative bubble of services and products being offered to customers. The A380 offering adds fuel to the fire with its embarrassment of riches on offer to the high yield passenger, providing what amounts to a second home in the skies – think on-board showers fitted by Dasell for Emirates Airlines. But the future belongs – for now anyway – to the ‘hybrid’ class being brought in by Air France-KLM on long haul flights along the lines of the class already being offered by airlines that spotted the trend earlier (Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Japan Airlines for example).
Newly fitted cabin suites
The exhibition showcased the most up-to-date in-cabin technology developments to the industry insiders and visitors who came along, including what we can expect to see in the First and Business class seating areas of the cabin of the near future. The brand new Super Fist Class Ultimate 17 cabin was unveiled by EADS Sogerma, and generated a lot of interest in a design that’s fresh from the drawing board of its French designer Jacques Pierrejean. The concept which has been developed over the last decade showcases innovative designs for the privacy of space in the air, making clever use of seating arrangements. A variety of in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems was also available for viewing by press and industry insiders well ahead of their official launch at the end of the year at the next Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hong Kong. The ‘Solstys’ Business Premium concept comes from the same Rochefort-based stable, carries the Pierrejean Design logo, and has been installed in the Business Pearl Class of Etihad Airlines. The seat reclines to a full 180° to become a flat bed on long-haul flights.
The ‘Solstys’ concept has bagged the Abu Dhabi-based airline ‘Best Business Class 2009’, an honour bestowed upon it by a panel of airline industry professionals. During the course of the Expo, EADS-Sogerma and Lufthansa Technik agreed in writing to work together on the ‘Aerosleeper’ seat for the new Super First Class Ultimate 17, whereby a cabin-integral mattress is fitted to a fully reclined seat. Meanwhile Sicma, a subsidiary of Zodiac, has launched a brand new business class that has seen quite some interest among airline companies: it comprises a bed and a separate seat in its own space. It is called ‘Make Yourself at Home’ (MYAH) and should be on the market within the next two years.
Business aviation : at the heart of in-cabin innovation
Business aviation is no less important to innovation in the aircraft interiors sector than commercial airline companies, in fact it is business aviation that has driven the sector to achieve the kind of innovations that are commonplace in airline cabins now. The importance of business aviation to in-cabin innovation is not lost on Lufthansa Technik, who chose the HAIE to throw open the doors of its brand new Cabin Innovation Centre at Hamburg Airport to the industry. The Centre is built on 5 floors with a surface area of 6, 500 m² in a building shaped like an aircraft wing. Each floor corresponds to a particular development stage, from the inception stage on the 5th floor to testing and production spaces on the first floor. The innovations developed here end up in the cabins of business and VIP aircraft of all kinds.
Various IFE systems are also developed at Lufthansa Technik’s Centre such as the 3D ‘niceview’ screens as well as the portable ‘nice’ systems developed for the Global 5000 and Global Express jets. Audio engineers are engaged in developing the ‘Trim Panel Speaker’ audio system, integrated in the cabin fittings behind the panels and hidden from view. Lufthansa has invested close to 10 million Euros in the Centre, thereby claiming its title as world leader in cabin innovation. And whilst the development and bringing to market of new products is always ongoing, so is the packaging and integration of these products becoming an industry in its own right. Companies that specialise in dovetailing together the mix of new in-cabin fittings into a seamless whole are increasingly in demand, as are the 3D visualisation tools they use and the expertise they bring to the end-product, all of which come at a significant cost. Recently the Hamburg-based company Case4de pulled ahead of the competition by taking on a major project – a flawless integration of the cabin fixtures and fittings for the first VIP A380 for the Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al saud, dubbed by the industry a ‘flying palace’. Case4de was given a totally free rein – a first in the aircraft interiors industry – in the fitting out of a cabin based on a design from scratch.
The design of the ‘flying palace’ was the work of the English ‘Design Q’ and paves the way for a wide range of technical innovations. It’s only a matter of time now before we start seeing in-flight hammams or elevators to the upper deck.
Designer fabrics in the cabin
Now that the dream of a ‘flying palace’ is finally a reality as the A380VIP fitting is well under way, other aircraft owners with slightly less extravagant demands are looking at what they can do with an aircraft cabin – why not bring a Louis VX era item of furniture into the cabin, for example, or use designer fabrics? The French company EAD Aerospace has shown that it’s perfectly possible to integrate all kinds of furniture into the cabin’s fixtures and fittings, and there is no reason why a hitherto unviewed original Picasso cannot be exhibited on board, or a Louis XIV dresser, or a Louis XVI clock. EAD has recently fitted out the cabin of a Falcon 900EX in authentic Napoleon III style using items from private collections. The project drew on the talents of a variety of contributors including an artistic director, an interior designer and a selection of experts in historical and contemporary artistic traditions working together with EAD.
All of this serves to showcase and promote to a wider audience the trends emerging in bespoke aircraft interior design: it’s innovative, original and it meets the needs of the passengers. The next-generation aircraft interiors represent a marriage of pure aesthetics with the use of new materials that are more robust and yet lighter, materials that are now seen at the back, middle or front of the aircraft. Let’s not forget that lighter materials help with fuel bills whatever kind of aircraft you operate, not to mention the environmental benefits. It could just be that Expo 2009 saw innovations in technology work to reduce the impact of the industry on the environment, giving companies the opportunity to ‘green’ their products before bringing them to the marketplace. And while the future is uncertain as always, at least there exists a forum to contemplate what it might hold for us.

L’Île Maurice : un petit coin de paradis dans l’Océan Indien
Imaginez une île perdue au milieu d’eaux bleues turquoise, une végétation luxuriante, des plages à perte de vue, une cuisine riche et variée, des paysages et des décors féériques, une population généreuse et ouverte, un mélange de culture impressionnant… Oui, il s’agit bien de l’Île Maurice, une Île a taille humaine dont on ne se lasse pas de découvrir les moindres recoins. Une Île qui possède ce « je ne sais quoi » de simple mais authentique.
Une Île aux multiples facettes
Située au sud-ouest de l’Océan Indien, Maurice appartient à l’archipel de Mascareignes (avec la Réunion et Rodrigues). L’île, d’origine volcanique, est petite : 1 865 m² circonscrits dans un ovale d’environ 45km d’Est en Ouest. Dur les côtes, les plages sont protégées par une barrière de corail qui ceinture l’Île presque uniformément. Le climat y est inversé. La saison hivernale commence de Juin à Septembre, période pendant laquelle les températures oscillent tout de même entre 17°C à 25°C.
Au-delà du climat, agréable toute l’année, Maurice est véritablement une terre plurielle qui livre à chaque instant de la journée l’un de ses secrets. Si l’on devait résumer en deux mots, l’Île, ce qui la caractérise avant tout, ce serait peut être « la richesse de sa diversité ».

La richesse de la faune et la flore est également remarquable même si la nature de l’Île fut énormément modifiée par l’arrivée de l’Homme. L’animal fétiche de l’Île, le Dodo, n’existe plus mais il n’en demeure pas moins une grande variété d’oiseaux et animaux terrestres même si le règne animal marin est certainement le plus époustouflant.
Diversité également des cultures, avec tout ce que cela comporte en termes de richesses culinaires, de pratiques religieuses (on compte énormément de temples indiens, d’églises et de mosquées souvent décorés et pimentés des décors et couleurs locales).
Visite guidée de l’Île…
Le Nord de Maurice est la première région de l'île à avoir vécu pleinement le décollage touristique. Grand Baie, plus particulièrement, est devenue, au fil du temps, naturellement incontournable. Paradis du shopping et des loisirs (Kapu kaï en est la nouvelle attraction), c'est aussi le lieu trépidant des nuits mauriciennes (nombreux restaurants, bars, discothèques). Côté page, le site de La Cuvette, qui vient d'être agréablement aménagé vaut le détour.
Mais le Nord compte aussi une des jardins connu des botanistes du monde entier : Le Jardin Pamplemousse, connu pour son importante collection de plantes indigènes et exotiques, ses nénuphars géants et ses nombreuses espèces de palmiers. Le talipot ou coryphe parasol est d'un intérêt particulier : la légende veut qu'il ne fleurisse qu'une fois tous les soixante ans avant de mourir. A visiter également, le Village de Triolet, le plus long de l’Île, dans lequel on peut également visiter le plus grand temple hindou de Maurice : le Temple Maheswarnath.
Sur le Littoral Est, l’Île aux Cerfs est une excursion à ne pas manquer. Endroit idéal pour la pratique des sports nautiques, vous pourrez ensuite vous détendre sur les kilomètres de plage de sable fin que compte l’île en y dégustant des spécialités de grillades de fruits de mer.
Dans le Grand Sud, Coté plage, la vaste baie de Tamarin a conservé un aspect sauvage, et se trouve être un spot apprécié des surfeurs avertis. Dès l’entrée du village, on remarque d’emblée les vastes étendues de salines. Le matin les femmes aux larges chapeaux récoltent le sel dans de grands paniers à l'aide de leurs râteaux. Enfin, la baie est également très appréciée des dauphins que l'on peut admirer en banc.
A faire absolument, emprunter la route sinueuse allant du village de Case Noyale vers la « Terre aux sept couleurs » sur la colline de Chamarel. Résultat de l’érosion de la montagne avoisinante, la terre s’est teintée de couleurs flamboyantes, bleu, vert, jaune, rouge… et donne au lieu un côté mystérieux voire mystique. Les chutes voisines émergent de la lande et la végétation naturelle est d'une beauté surprenante.
L’Île Maurice est vraiment une Île accueillante et chaleureuse. Les corps se délassent, et l’âme se repose. Paysages enchanteurs et magie du décor procurent une indéfinissable sensation de bien-être. Mauritius – so much to enjoy
Mauritius is one of the Mascarene Islands in the southwest Indian ocean, neighboured by the islands of Réunion and Rodrigues. The volcanic island is oval-shaped with an East to West diameter of 45km and a surface area of 1,865 m². Its beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier that almost totally surrounds the island, and climate-wise the seasons are reversed so the winter runs from June to September - during which the temperature ranges from a relatively cool 17°C to about 25°C.
With its year-round balmy climate, Mauritius really is a treasure-trove of undiscovered delights every moment of the day, and if you had to summon up its two most appealing qualities you would probably choose the island’s extraordinary diversity, and its wealth of abundance. The compactness of the place means that it’s very easy to enjoy these qualities – only here can you enjoy magnificent mountainous views, beaches of soft white sand, and a marine world swarming with colourful tropical fish. The abundance and diversity of the island’s flora and fauna is just awe-inspiring, even after many generations of human settlement, and whilst you might not catch a glimpse of the island’s mascot - the long-extinct dodo - the sheer variety of wildlife will take your breath away. The island’s diversity isn’t just in the birds, mammals and sealife though – a wide variety of faiths and creeds also co-exist peacefully here. You’ll see Indian temples, churches and mosques, all of them with a certain native touch added: some local colour here, some local artistry there. Where to go and what to see…
The tourist industry first found a foothold in the North of the island, and the ‘Grand Baie’ area is a must-see on any visitor’s list. Over the years the ‘Grand Baie’ area has become a magnet for shoppers and thrillseekers alike (check out the latest attraction ‘Kapu kaï’). At sundown, this is the place to go for bars, restaurants and discos, where the music never stops… and the beach-side area is worth a visit for the recently renovated ‘La Cuvette’ alone.
The North section of the island is also where you’ll find the Jardin Pamplemousse’ (‘Grapefruit Garden’) gardens, the envy of botanists world-wide. The gardens are widely known for their collection of indigenous and exotic plants, including giant water lilies and a wide variety of palm trees. You’ll also see here the talipot palm – known to experts as the Corypha umbraculifera - which is said to flower only once in its lifetime of about 60 years, after which the plant dies. The nearby village of Triolet is also well-worth a visit: it’s the largest village of the region, stretching for miles all along the coast, and is home to the Maheswarnath Temple - the largest Indian temple in Mauritius.
Just off the East coast of the island is the ‘Deer Island’, the ‘Ile aux Cerfs’. It’s perfect for watersports enthusiasts with powdery white sandy beaches that stretch for miles. The place is famous for its local speciality - a mouthwatering grilled seafood dish that’s not to be missed.
The coast of the south section of the island is a well-kept secret in the surfing community, and its vast Tamarin Bay area still feels untouched by commercialism and modern development. The first thing you notice about the area are the long stretches of salt evaporation ponds, and if you’re there in the morning you’ll see the salt being harvested by women in wide-brimmed hats, who shovel the salt into basins. Tamarin Bay is popular with dophins as well, who can often be spotted in shallow waters.
No trip to Mauritius is complete with taking a trip along the winding road that runs from the village of Case Noyale to the famous ‘coloured earths’ of Chamarel. This geological phenomenon is the result of the erosion of the nearby mountain, and the dazzling array of colours on the Chamarel hillocks are a surreal sight with their mix of vivid reds, blues, yellows and greens. While you’re there, the vegetation of the surrounding hills near Chamarel is stunning too, not to mention the dramatic nearby waterfalls.
Mauritius’s relaxed charm has a calming, soothing influence on every visitor, and you can’t fail to be enchanted by the graceful majesty of the landscape and the enticing beauty of its beaches. Au Sud de l’Australie, se trouve une petite île en forme de cœur aux vallées vertes et luxuriantes, à la nature et aux paysages aussi riches que variés. Un petit coin de paradis encore préservé de trop de présence humaine et dont tout le charme réside dans la diversité et la préservation d’une faune et d’une flore endémique. Malgré une faible superficie, (l’équivalent de la Suisse actuelle), la Tasmanie possède plusieurs visages. Sa diversité géographique assure un dépaysement total. A la fois mystérieuse et sauvage, elle a des allures d’île du bout du monde.
Unique
Composée à 37 % de réserves, de parcs nationaux et de sites inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité, la Tasmanie est une île d'Océanie et un État australien qui comprend également d'autres petites îles. Située à 240 km de la côte sud-est du continent australien dont elle est séparée par les eaux tumultueuses du Détroit de Bass, la Tasmanie s’étend sur 315 kilomètres (189 milles) de l’ouest à l’est, et sur 286 kilomètres (175 milles) du nord au sud, pour une superficie de 68 331 kilomètres carrés (26 376 milles carrés).
Le voyage en Tasmanie est une expérience époustouflante. Non seulement l'exubérance de la nature est sans limite, s'étalant dans un décor de montagnes majestueuses, mais les randonnées réservent des suites de lacs extraordinaires, et les côtes offrent des baies pittoresques. Il s’agit d’une des îles les plus montagneuses au monde et bien que ses sommets n’atteignent pas de hauteurs vertigineuses, leur profil en dents de scie est remarquable.
Cette île revendique fièrement sa singularité par bien des côtés. Tout d’abord au niveau historique :
Le premier Européen à découvrir la Tasmanie fut le célèbre navigateur hollandais, Abel Tasman en 1642. Très vite et ce, jusqu’au 19ème siècle, l’Île fut considérée comme un site idéal pour les colonies pénitentiaires du continent australien.
La Tasmanie est également unique de par la multitude d’espèces de plantes et d’animaux improbables qu’elle abrite (diable de Tasmanie, marsupiaux, ornithorynques…). Elle est l’un des rares pays ayant conservé de vastes forêts vierges en zone tempérée et compte quelques-uns des plus hauts et plus anciens arbres du monde. C’est également l’endroit où l'on trouve l'air le plus pur au monde.
Un temple de la nature
Chaque recoin de l’Île permet de jouir d’un paysage différent. A l'Est, des falaises spectaculaires battues par la houle des quarantièmes rugissants, et des gorges escarpées cachent des plages au sable doux, dont l'une d'entre elles, Wineglass Bay, est parfois considérée comme l'une des plus belles au monde. Cette région offre de nombreuses activités, pêche au gros à partir des petits ports de St Helens et de Bicheno, observation des baleines, dauphins, pingouins et ornithorynques et randonnées panoramiques le long de la côte, notamment à Coles bay et dans le parc national du Freycinet. Les trois pics granitiques des Hazards (485 m), montagne de granit rose qui s’élève abruptement au dessus de l’océan offrent un spectacle extraordinaire et de splendides couchers de soleil. Cette partie de la Tasmanie est bien connue pour sa gastronomie, ses fruits de mer, ses langoustes et ses vignobles.
A visiter absolument, Maria Island, une paisible petite île fascinante par son histoire et ses paysages, dans laquelle seules les bicyclettes sont autorisées à débarquer. Initialement utilisée comme colonie pénitentiaire, Maria Island est aujourd'hui devenue un parc national dans laquelle on peut venir admirer les ruines du pénitencier, les bâtiments historiques restaurés, les musées, les cellules transformées en gîtes et le parc maritime de forêts d’algues géantes…
La côte Nord de la Tasmanie, région plus riche, contraste avec le reste de l’île. Surplombant la vallée de la Tamar River, la ville de Launceston dotée d’une forte identité, mérite une halte. Launceston est un excellent point de départ pour la visite des vignobles de la vallée de Tamar qui bénéficie d'un climat frais. Au départ de Launceston, vous pouvez également aller visiter des parcs nationaux tels que Narawntapu ou les villages historiques d'Evandale et de Longford avec leurs anciennes fermes et leurs grandes demeures historiques. Ancienne base militaire et commerciale du Nord de l’île, la ville a su s’enrichir en gardant un cachet anglo-saxon et présente de beaux exemples d’architecture victorienne. Non loin de la ville, on trouve la spectaculaire Cataract gorge, une falaise verticale qui barre le cours de la rivière Esk.
L’Ouest de la Tasmanie est la région la plus sauvage et la plus tourmentée. Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair est le plus célèbre parc national de Tasmanie. Il est enregistré par la Commission des Patrimoines Mondiaux comme l’un des endroits les plus précieux de la planète. De somptueux lacs se découpent dans un relief déchiqueté. La forêt tropicale est impénétrable et dévoile des arbres millénaires. La vue sur les crêtes dentelées de Cradle Mountain par-delà les eaux dormantes du lac Dove est l’un des clichés les plus facilement identifiables de la nature sauvage de Tasmanie. De nombreuses randonnées et activités sont proposées, mais il est également possible de visiter et de découvrir l’île différemment en profitant des vols en avion ou en hélicoptère.
La région centrale a un petit air d’Angleterre grâce aux premiers colons qui ont planté de nombreux arbres d'origine européenne et construit leurs maisons et leurs églises en pierre. C'est une région d’élevage de moutons avec d’immenses pâturages. Le petit village historique de Richmond, superbement rénové et restauré, avec plus de 50 édifices du XIXème siècle permet d’aller à la rencontre du riche passé historique de la Tasmanie. Les visites dans le cimetière de la plus ancienne église catholique subsistant en Australie, l’église St John, édifiée en 1836 prennent des allures mystiques.
C’est au Sud que se trouve Hobart, la capitale de cet Etat. Hobart a été fondée en 1804 sur l'estuaire de la rivière Derwent au pied du Mt Wellington (1270m d’altitude). C’est autour de son port en eaux profondes que la ville s’est développée. Aux détours des petites rues charmantes et pittoresques, se succèdent joyeusement ateliers d’artistes, galeries d’art, magasins, restaurants, cafés… Sur la colline, à Battery Point (ancienne quartier de la garnison) on peut revoir ces anciens cottages en briques ou de bois colorés, au cachet typiquement anglais.
En fonction de la date de votre venue, vous aurez peut-être la chance d’assister à l’un des nombreux évènements qui ont lieu chaque année sur l’île, comme la course de voiliers Sydney-Hobart, ou encore Targa Tasmania , un rallye qui attire les passionnés de courses et de rallye et qui se déroule sur cinq jours. Le festival de musique de Tasmanie et d’autres événements musicaux, rythment la vie culturelle locale.
Il est des lieux que la discrétion et l’isolement a su préserver de l’Homme, pour notre plus grand bonheur. Tasmania : An Island of Inspiration
There is a little heart-shaped island south of Australia whose valleys are green and luxuriant and whose wildlife and scenery is as glorious as it is varied. It’s a small corner of paradise that’s still relatively untouched by human hand and whose real charm lies in the diversity and the preservation of its indigenous flora and fauna. Its small size (about the size of Switzerland) belies its dazzling and quite unexpected geographical variety. This island at the edge of the world has all the air of an untamed wilderness still waiting to be discovered.
Unique
76% of the island is either a reserve, a national park or a world heritage site. Tasmania is part of Australia and one of the South Sea Islands, also comprising other smaller islands around it. It lies 240km from the southeast corner of the Australian continent, and is separated from it by the choppy waters of the Bass Strait. The island measures 315km (189 miles) west to east and 286 km (175 miles) north to south with a surface area of 68,331 square km (26,376 square miles). Travelling in Tasmania is a mind-blowing experience, not just for the sheer exuberance of the vegetation that rises up to meet vast majestic mountains, but also the trails that lead to stunning lakes and coasts with gorgeous, picturesque bays. While the summits are not vertiginously high, Tasmania is still one of the most mountainous islands in the world and these mountains present a dramatic jagged profile against the sky.
The island proudly asserts its independence in several ways: the first European to discover Tasmania was the well-known Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who arrived there in 1642. Almost immediately the island became a penal colony accommodating colonies relocated from the Australian continent, and this continued right up until the 19th Century.
Tasmania is unique in many other ways: it hosts a multitude of plants and unusual animals (the Tasmanian devil, marsupials, the duck-billed platypus for example) and is one of the few countries to still have virgin forests in a temperate zone. The highest and oldest trees in the world can be found here, as well as the cleanest air in the world.
A temple of nature
Every single nook and cranny is an opportunity to revel in the island’s sheer visual variety. To the east, spectacular cliffs are battered daily by the so-called ‘roaring forties’ at this latitude, and near-vertical gorges conceal beaches of soft sand - Wineglass Bay is reckoned to be one the loveliest beaches in the world. There’s plenty to do round here: big game fishing from the tiny ports of St Helens and Bicheno, whale watching, trips to see dolphins, penguins and the duck-billed platypus as well as panoramic trails along the coast, most notably along Coles Bay and in the Freycinet national park. The three granite peaks of the mountains named the Hazards (485m high) rise abruptly from beneath the ocean and are a breathtaking sight, especially at sunset. This part of Tasmania is also well known for its cuisine especially seafood, lobsters and locally produced wines.
Maria Island is a must-see: it’s an out of the way place with a fascinating history and gorgeous scenery, where the only vehicles that can leave the boat are bicycles. Once a penal colony, Maria Island is now a national park where you can see the ruins of the old penitentiary, restored historic buildings and museums, as well as staying in the old cells that are now self-catering holiday homes, and visit the marine area of the national park with its extensive algae blooms.
The north coast of Tasmania is probably the most prosperous area and is quite different to the rest of the island. Sitting in the plunging Tamar river valley, the town of Launceston has a strong identity of its own and is an ideal departure point for visits to the Tamar Valley vineyards to enjoy the cool air there. Launceston is also a departure point for visits to national parks such as Narawntapu, and the historic villages of Evandale and Longford with their old farms and sprawling historic residences. Launceston was once a military and commercial centre of the northern section of the island and even today there is still a peculiarly English feel to the place, surrounded as it is by Victorian architecture. Nearby is the spectacular Cataract Gorge along the River Esk.
West Tasmania is the real wilderness area of the island, and this is where you’ll find one of the best-known national parks of Tasmania: Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair. It’s a registered world heritage site and is considered one of the most precious sites on the planet. Full-bodied lakes nestle at the foot of jagged peaks, and its unfathomable tropical forest is full of millennia-old trees. The view across the stillness of Dove Lake against the tombstone-shaped crests of Cradle Mountain is emblematic of Tasmania’s ancient wilderness. There is a plethora of marked trails and activities but another quite different way to enjoy the island is by taking a plane or helicopter ride over it.
The island’s central region has a strong old-English flavour to it – the early colonists planted a variety of European-origin trees here and built houses and churches using stone. It’s primarily a sheep-farming area, and has extensive pastureland for this purpose. The tiny historic village of Richmond is beautifully renovated, and the restoration of over 50 19th Century buildings provide a real window to Tasmania’s rich history, not to mention the frisson of a visit to the cemetery of one Australia’s oldest standing Catholic churches – St John’s Church built in 1836.
The state capital Hobart is in the south part of the island. Hobart was founded in 1804 on the Derwent river estuary at the foot of Mount Wellington (1,270m altitude), and the town grew around the deepwater port there. Wandering through the picturesque meandering streets you’ll stumble across artists’ studios, galleries, shops, restaurants and cafes. Up on the hill at Battery Point, the old garrison area, you’ll get a great view of Hobart’s typically English historic little cottages of brick and painted wood.
There are various events throughout the year that can serve as the focal point for your visit, including the Sydney Harbour-Hobart yacht race, the five-day long rally event Targa Tasmania for rally enthusiasts, or the Tasmania music festival. All kinds of musical events punctuate Tasmania’s cultural calender.
There are some places on this earth that are still relatively untouched by humankind and have a quiet stillness and dignity about them. We are lucky enough to be able to discover these places and experience for ourselves their diversity, their sense of wilderness and their closeness to nature. Whatever your reason for choosing Tasmania, you’ll be won over by the unique experience, and dazzled and humbled by the rare privilege of seeing for yourself the abundance of nature that is contained in this little island at the edge of the world.

Un haut de gamme inclassable
Du jamais vu ! Un concept encore inédit qui s’adapte aux besoins actuels en associant élégance et prestance dans une atmosphère raffinée. Les espaces de rangement pour les loisirs et les voyages sont abondants et bien pensés. La Série 5 Gran Turismo cherche à valoriser les atouts des concepts automobiles existants en tentant d’esquiver leurs défauts spécifiques bien connus… « Gran Turismo » désignait à l’origine des voitures puissantes qui se distinguaient par leur confort, un habitacle généreux et une grande facilité d’utilisation au quotidien et sur les longues distances : cette 5 GT en constitue l’interprétation moderne … Première BMW 4 portes à disposer de vitres sans encadrement, cette Gran Turismo réunit élégance, espace et modularité. L’harmonie des lignes se trouve valorisée grâce à un capot moteur allongé, un habitacle reculé et un long empattement (façon Z4). Ce design permet d’obtenir une ligne de toit plus élancée et de rendre l’allure globale du véhicule plus dynamique. Cette caractéristique est d’ailleurs reprise des coupés BMW.
Design intérieur ultra soigné, digne d'un jet d'affaire des plus récents
La BMW Série 5 Gran Turismo offre une atmosphère de type « lounge » grâce à l’utilisation de matériaux nobles et raffinés. L'ambiance à bord est particulièrement lumineuse : la BMW Série 5 Gran Turismo est la première voiture équipée d’un toit ouvrant panoramique en verre aussi grand ayant pu être intégré dans un toit façon coupé. Cette luminosité intérieure est encore valorisée par un grand pare brise. L'atmosphère nocturne se veut très soignée, façon cockpit de « liner » en vol de nuit, avec de série, un éclairage d'ambiance qui renforce la sensation de bien-être et de luxe. La rétro vision depuis les places avant est assez limitée mais de nombreuses aides ou assistances sont là pour veiller à ne pas égratigner la peinture de sa 5 GT toute neuve sur le plafond ou les piliers des parkings souterrains : caméra de recul, caméra d’intersections et radars de recul AV /AR selon les niveaux de finitions. La 5 GT propose cinq places de série mais peut être équipée de deux sièges arrière optionnels, à réglages individuels. L'espace central reste handicapé par le tunnel de transmission, de ce fait si la place centrale ne vous paraît pas indispensable, optez pour les deux sièges arrière confort séparés qui font de votre Série 5 GT une stricte quatre places, tout comme sur le X6. Le hayon à double ouverture offre une polyvalence et une réelle modularité : selon les besoins, le chargement peut s’effectuer en ouvrant le hayon dans son intégralité, ou bien, pour les objets peu volumineux, en ouvrant seulement la partie située sous la vitre. Cette dernière possibilité permet de charger rapidement et facilement les bagages tout en gardant les occupants à l’abri du vent et des intempéries. La polyvalence s'exprime également par le choix possible entre un confort maximal aux places arrière ou un volume de coffre optimisé. Selon que la cloison de séparation entre les places arrière et le coffre est plus ou moins incliné, on dispose d'un espace variable de l'un ou l'autre des volumes disponibles! La capacité du coffre peut être portée à 1700 litres en rabattant totalement les sièges et la cloison arrière, soit presque autant que dans un X5... La gamme de la Gran Turismo s'articule entre deux finitions: Exclusive & Luxe et trois packs: « Évasion », « Dynamique » & « Innovation ». Ce véhicule, totalement inédit, théoriquement intermédiaire entre une série 5 et un X6 n’a rien sacrifié aux valeurs traditionnelles BMW : qualités de finition, raffinement, utilisation de matériaux nobles dont de très jolis cuirs. Il reste bien sur une propulsion au travers de laquelle s’exprimera l’un des deux moteurs 6 cylindres (essence 535i de 306 ch ou diesel 530d de 245ch) ou bien encore le 550i V8 essence de 407 ch). Toutes ces motorisations, disponibles à la parution de ce magazine, bénéficient bien entendu des dernières évolutions technologiques du moment (rappelons que BMW est un motoriste renommé qui a même dans le passé fabriqué des moteurs d'avion).
Le système BMW Efficient Dynamics
Il est ici déployé avec toute l’ampleur qu’il mérite et garantit par là même un bilan performance/plaisir de conduite/consommation/émission de CO2 tout à fait éloquent. Pour y parvenir, le constructeur n’a pas hésité sur les innovations technologiques les plus récentes : volets d’air pilotés, moteurs essence avec injection directe haute précision HPI, moteurs Diesel de construction allégée avec rampe commune, système de récupération de l’énergie au freinage, pneumatiques à faible résistance au roulement. Ces mécaniques affichent des niveaux de consommation et de rejets de CO2 respectivement situés entre 6,5 et 11,2 l/100 km et 173 et 263 g/km. Autre nouveauté présente : une nouvelle boîte de vitesse automatique à 8 rapports dont les points forts ne manquent pas : plus légère (-6kg) et plus courte que la boîte automatique 6, très nette amélioration du temps de réponse lors des changements de rapports, meilleure précision de régulation de l’embrayage de pontage du convertisseur lorsque le moteur est à faible charge enfin, consommation réduite (-5 à -6%) par rapport à la boîte 6 rapports. Sur la route, nous avons été impressionnés par la souplesse de fonctionnement et le silence qui règne à bord. Un simple chuintement aérodynamique est perceptible et pourtant notre modèle d'essai (535 d), le seul disponible au lancement était donc un diesel. En croisière, on se croirait dans un planeur, en légère descente à la recherche de sa finesse max, tant les bruits sont filtrés et très peu audibles ! Bien sûr, la 5 GT adopte la commande de régulation du comportement dynamique (série) mais reçoit aussi, en option, un nouveau contrôle Adaptative drive qui optimise le confort de roulement. Grâce à la commande de régulation du comportement dynamique le conducteur peut modifier le caractère de son véhicule en choisissant entre plusieurs modes prédéfinis: CONFORT (uniquement avec l’option Adaptive Drive), NORMAL, SPORT et SPORT . Le système va alors influer sur la réactivité du moteur, les temps de passage des rapports, l’assistance de direction et le réglage des amortisseurs. L'autre option de Direction active intégrale est particulièrement intéressante et mérite quelques explications. A vitesse réduite (moins de 60 km/h), les roues arrière braquent dans le sens opposé à celui des roues avant. Résultat: la BMW Série 5 Gran Turismo fait preuve d’une agilité et d’une maniabilité insoupçonnées pour une automobile de cette catégorie. A vitesse soutenue (à partir de 80 km/h), les roues arrières braquent dans le même sens que les roues avant. Résultat: une tenue de route améliorée, plus de confort pour les passagers arrière et plus de sécurité grâce à des forces et transferts de masse latéraux réduits.
Le confort est souverain
Il est vrai que la Série 5 Gran Turismo est équipée du train arrière intégral V qui offre un réel dynamisme de conduite doublé d’un haut niveau de confort. Grâce à la suspension pneumatique avec correcteur d’assiette à l’arrière la hauteur de caisse est constante quel que soit le chargement de la voiture. De série comme sur d’autres véhicules de la gamme BMW : l’indicateur de limitation de vitesse, bien utile par les temps qui courent...Celui ci indique constamment au conducteur la vitesse maximale autorisée. Pour ce faire, une caméra embarquée « lit » les panneaux placés au bord ou au dessus de la chaussée. Ces informations sont comparées avec celles du système de navigation ainsi qu’avec les conditions momentanées. Autrement dit, si le panneau signale « 60 » par temps de pluie, l’information n’est transmise que s’il pleut vraiment… La sécurité en conduite nocturne est bonifiée par le système de vision nocturne. Lancé sur la série 5 E60, ce système évolue technologiquement et fonctionnellement: la portée de la caméra est de 300 mètres. Le système permet la détection des piétons et des obstacles émettant une source de chaleur. Il est aussi capable à présent de situer les obstacles en fonctions de leur position sur la chaussée. La position des piétons/obstacles est visualisée sur l’écran du système de navigation et sur le HUD (affichage tête haute). On utilise presque les technologies de détection embarquées sur certains avions militaires et qui permettent de reconnaître une « signature » moteur, même radar éteint ! Malgré le gabarit conséquent de cette 5 GT ( 5 m de long & 1,90 de large), l’utilisation urbaine ne lui fait pas peur, l’agilité et l’aisance des prises de stationnement sont au rendez vous.
Une liste d’équipement pléthorique
Pour terminer cette liste d’équipement pour le moins pléthorique mais fort utile, citons les nouvelles fonctionnalités du BMW ConnectedDrive. Vous bénéficiez entre autres de votre courrier électronique, d’informations sur les emplacements de parking et de la recherche locale Google. Les dernières actualités politique, économique, sportive et la météo à destination sont également disponibles à bord du véhicule. Signature d’un savoir-faire, disposant d’un aménagement intérieur typé monospace et d’une ergonomie sans faille, cette Série 5 Gran Turismo reste une superbe « machine à rouler tous temps ». Confortable, offrant beaucoup d’espace intérieur, redoutablement efficace et pas trop « pesante » à conduire, surtout avec la direction active, elle constitue un régal sur tous types de routes avec un juste équilibrage des suspensions adaptées aux pneumatiques runflat. La nouvelle boite automatique est très réussie et se marie parfaitement avec ce moteur diesel de 245 ch très tonique grâce à son couple généreux
Très modulable, d’un agrément sans contestation, la BMW 5 GT conserve l’esprit de famille série 5/X5 mais modernise le concept et la polyvalence, le tout avec des consommations et des émissions polluantes qui ne sont pas moins respectables que bien des « petites berlines » de la production actuelle !

Cet avion Français a battu en 1934 un record de vitesse à 506 km/h. If you think you might be getting weary of the 4x4 BMW X5s or of their offspring the saloon BMWs but still hanker after something made in Munich then the BMW Series 5 Gran Turismo might be just the thing for you. For those who still want that hard-to-find panache and who are drawn to vehicles that are solid, stately, secure, powerful and comfortable then clearly the BMW 5GT fits the bill. BMW’s new Series 5 GT is a savvy blend of luxury versatile SUV, top class saloon, and flexible Touring car. This new arrival on the scene is unique in its class and brings all of the features of these vehicles together under one roof.
Top of the range in a class of its own
The Series 5 GT really is a first. It’s a brand new design that’s adapted to 21st Century needs in a harmonious synthesis of elegance that still makes an impact but in a soothing, calm setting. Storage space for leisure trips and journeys is generous and well thought out. The Series 5 GT is a car that has improved everything that’s good about car design whilst at the same time eschewing everything that’s known to be less than perfect. The Gran Turismo has always been a powerful car that’s easy to handle on a day-to-day basis and on long trips, and this one is the modern day incarnation of just that. It’s the first 4 door BMW to use frameless windows and really does bring together elegance, space and flexibility in one vehicle. The car has a beautiful sweeping look with its stretched hood, set back frame and long wheelbase (Z4-style). The design gives the roof a long slender look giving the car overall a much more dynamic aspect, a feature more usually associated with the BMW coupés.
Immaculate interior design that would not be out of place in a newly built corporate jet
The BMW Series 5 Gran Turismo feels like being in a lounge, and this is down to its use of top-notch materials and fabrics. The BMW Series 5 Gran Turismo is the first car to have a panoramic glass sunroof this big to be integrated into a coupé-style roof, which together with the huge windscreen positively floods the interior with natural light. And it’s a comfortable drive at night, a lot like an airline cockpit on nightflight mode, giving a reassuring glow of well-being and comfort. The rear view from the front seats is fairly limited but there are all kinds of gadgets and aids to ensure no paintwork gets scratched on your brand new GT5 on some underground parking ceiling or pillar: there’s a reverse camera, a side view camera and reversing sensors forward and aft depending on options. The GT5 is a five seater, but can also be a two rear seater which can be adjusted as required. The propeller shaft tunnel takes up the central space so if you don’t need the middle seat go for the two comfort rear seater option – in other words, get your Series 5 GT as a four seater, like the X6. The double action boot makes the GT5 really versatile and flexible: you can either open up the rear completely like a saloon for big loads, or open up the door section only like a hatchback. This facility makes loading luggage quick and easy, and protects passengers from being buffeted by the elements. The versatility doesn’t stop there: you can either have a fantastically voluminous boot or top-notch comfort in the rear seating area. Depending on where the divider between the rear seats and boot is actually positioned you can move the space around as much as you like! And folding down the divider and the seats completely gives you a 1700 litre capacity, not far off the capacity of the X5. The Gran Turismo range is available in two finishes – Exclusive and Luxe, and three models: Flight, Dynamic and Innovation. In theory this new breed of vehicle sits somewhere between a series 5 and an X6, and although it’s a new breed, the car has sacrificed none of the values that you would expect from a traditional BMW: the quality of the finish is superb, the vehicle is elegant and the fabrics and coverings are exquisite, including some gorgeous leatherwork. It’s a powerful beast as well: you can choose between two 6 cylinder engines - petrol 535i with 306hp or diesel 530d with 245hp, or even the petrol 550i with 407hp. These engine options were all available as we went to press and were all endowed with the very latest technological innovations. And let’s not forget that BMW is a respected name in engineering whose creations have been used in aircraft engines.
The BMW Efficient Dynamics system
The Efficient Dynamics System is deployed in all its glory, and it’s a drive system that absolutely guarantees a high-performing drive pleasure with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions that are very respectable. The manufacturers have availed themselves of all the most recently developed technology including management of air flaps, high precision HPI direct injection engines, light construction common-rail diesel engines, a braking energy recovery system, and low resistance tyres. Altogether these features add up to consumption levels between 6.5l to 11.2l and emission levels between 173g and 263g per km. Then there’s the new 8 speed automatic gearbox that packs a punch on many levels – it’s lighter (6kg lighter), shorter than the 6 speed gearbox, has an improved response time during gear changes, enhanced clutch management when the engine is ticking over, and reduced consumption (down by 5 to 6%) compared to the 6 speed gearbox. Out on the road, the flexibility of use and the general quietness was impressive. A light aerodynamic hiss was barely audible, and this was on a diesel 535d trial model, the only one available at the time. External noise was filtered out and could hardly be discerned and cruising along on the road felt like being in a glider gently adjusting to its optimum height. Naturally the series dynamic drive system is used on the GT5, and the new Adaptive drive system is also available as an option which improves the drive comfort. The car’s drive can be adjusted using the dynamic drive systems by choosing from a number of pre-programmed modes: COMFORT (available only with Adaptive Drive option), NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT . The drive system selected influences the engine response, the speed of the gear change, the power steering, and the performance of the shock absorbers. There is another very attractive active integrated steering option that’s worth a second look – at lower speeds, less than 60km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels giving the BMW Series 5 Gran Turismo a real agility and unprecedented fluency for a car in this category. At a sustained 80km/h the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, so you get improved road hold, a more comfortable ride for the backseat passengers and better safety thanks to a reduced lateral weight transfer.
Comfort above all else
The Series 5 Gran Turismo does have a V integral rear wheel axle which makes the car a really dynamic and very comfortable drive, and the rearward self-levelling air suspension means that the car’s frame stays at a constant height whatever the vehicle load. Provided as standard as with other vehicles in the BMW range is a speed limit indicator – very useful these days. This is a device whereby the maximum applicable speed is constantly monitored and updated. This is done by means of an onboard camera that scans the notices and signs on the side of the road and overhead. The data is then matched with the navigation system as well as present conditions. So if the sign says ‘60’ when raining, the data is transmitted accordingly if it is actually raining. Night driving safety is greatly enhanced with a nocturnal vision system, a system which was launched in the Series 5 E60 and has evolved technologically and operationally – the camera’s range is 300 metres. Heat-emitting objects and pedestrians can be detected with this improved system, and their position in relation to the road can also be ascertained. A navigation screen and a heads-up display (HUD) shows the position of pedestrians and obstacles, not that far off the kind of detection system used on some military aircraft in which an engine ‘signature’ can be read even with the radar switched off! And despite its bulk (5m long, 1.9m wide) the GT5 does fine in city driving, it is perfectly agile and easy to park and get around in busy streets.
A long list of features
At the end of a long but useful list of features, the BMW ConnectedDrive feature is worth mentioning. BMW Online provides the driver with a wealth of information useful during the journey and at the destination. Among other things you can use email, get information on parking spaces and use Google navigation tools as well as keeping up with the latest economic, political and sporting news in your car. The Series 5 Gran Turismo really is the hallmark of a manufacturer who know their way around a car. The interior space is fantastically exploited, the ergonomics are flawless, and all in all the Series 5 Gran Turismo is truly an all-purpose vehicle.
It’s comfortable, spacious, supremely efficient and not too heavy to drive especially with active steering. The new King of the Road has a good weight distribution with adaptive suspension and runflat tyres. The new automatic gearbox is a real achievement and works beautifully with this 245hp diesel engine that gives a bracing drive thanks to its generous torque.
The BMW GT5 is manifestly versatile and charming and retains the feel of the 5/x5 family whilst updating the design and the flexibility of use. All this is delivered with emission outputs and consumption figures that are more than respectable, and better than many of the small-size saloons currently being produced!

Résurrection en blanc de la Salle Pleyel

Fermée depuis quatre ans, la célèbre salle de concert parisienne exalte ses origines Art déco dans une rénovation blanche et sensuelle.
Sise en haut du faubourg-Saint-Honoré, dans le 8e arrondissement de Paris, la Salle Pleyel rouvrira le 13 septembre avec pour concert inaugural la bien nommée Symphonie n° 2 « Résurrection » de Gustave Mahler donnée par l'Orchestre de Paris sous la baguette de Christoph Eschenbach. Très attendue dans le milieu musical, cette renaissance verra pour la première fois la salle entièrement rénovée depuis sa construction en 1927 par l'architecte Jean-Marcel Auburtin sous la direction de l'ingénieur des Mines et polytechnicien Gustave Lyon, à l'époque directeur de la société Pleyel.
Seule salle parisienne construite spécifiquement pour la musique symphonique, ce lieu unique en son genre connut des hauts et des bas et quelques interventions intempestives. Après un incendie et une reconstruction neuf mois seulement après son ouverture, la Grande Dépression de 1933 oblige la société Pleyel à céder son bien à sa banque, le Crédit Lyonnais, qui le gérera jusqu'en 1998 avant de se voir elle-même contrainte de vendre. L'acquisition par l'industriel Hubert Martigny pour son épouse, le chef d'orchestre Carla Maria Tarditi, via la société IDSH et en dehors de toute prérogative publique, provoque un imbroglio général. Comme à l'origine entre Lyon et Auburtin, il fallut alors attendre la rencontre entre deux hommes, le propriétaire précité et l'architecte François Ceria pour que se dégagent des solutions tant pour la restauration que pour l'exploitation.
Un hall classé
Le projet prend forme à partir de 2002. L'équipe de maîtrise d’œuvre se constitue, avec pour associé le cabinet Artec Consultants et son mentor, Tateo Nakajima, pour l'acoustique. La construction est confiée au Groupe Bouygues, avec ses filiales Sodearif et Elan. En 2004, le ministère de la Culture approuve l'accord trouvé entre la Salle Pleyel et la Cité de la musique, pour un contrat de bail d'une durée de cinquante ans. Son directeur, Laurent Bayle, participe au programme architectural et à la future programmation musicale. L'Orchestre de Paris, occupant historique des lieux de 1981 à 2002, et l'Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France en seront les principaux protagonistes.
Derrière son altière façade Art déco tendue sur le faubourg, la Salle Pleyel se déploie dans la profondeur de la parcelle selon une géométrie complexe. Des espaces insoupçonnés se dévoilent comme le vestibule d'entrée restauré et le grand hall à colonnades articulé autour de sa rotonde dont la verrière et la voûte en staff ont été reconstituées selon le dessin d'origine. « Le chant des colonnes, disait Valéry », commente François Ceria qui souligne leur rôle structurel. Au sol, une magnifique étoile en pierre mariant le beige de Chassagne, l'ocre de Jérusalem et le noir du Zimbabwe donne le ton majestueux de ce hall classé où règnent un plafond à caissons, des appliques attribuées à Baguès, des serrureries du ferronnier Subes et de nouveaux papiers peints dessinés par le graphiste contemporain Cyril Cohen à partir de motifs du décorateur Rulhmann.
Un foyer intégralement créé
La première vraie conquête de la rénovation se situe au-dessus dans le foyer intégralement créé entre le parterre et la rue à l'emplacement d'anciens studios de danse. L'espace rythmé par le déambulatoire autour de la verrière et un immense bar allie passé et présent, avec en supplément trois fresques de l'artiste Marco del Re offertes par Hubert Martigny. Outre la nécessaire respiration, cette nouvelle vitrine sur la rue sert également pour la sécurité incendie.
Mais quelles que soient les interventions de restauration, comme celles encore du bâtiment des musiciens rue Daru, rien ne vaut l'émotion provoquée par la salle elle-même, immense nef semblant surgir de nulle part sous sa coque en staff immaculé retrouvée telle qu'à l'origine. François Ceria a choisi l'option difficile « d'une salle épurée, blanche, comme un bateau flottant avec sa coque en bois ».
Le parquet en angélique, la scène en chêne clair et les nouveaux sièges revêtus de tissu Bourgogne dessinent la ligne de flottaison. « L'idée a été d'éviter à tout prix de faire de la quincaillerie mais d'établir une harmonie de volumes et d'éléments curvilignes extrêmement dépouillés, établis dans les trois dimensions comme la musique se déploie dans l'espace », explique l'architecte.
Pour une meilleure condition d'écoute, la scène a été recentrée et dotée de gradins à l'arrière du plateau afin d'accueillir des choeurs ou des spectateurs, une configuration originale à Paris. La jauge a été réduite, passant de 2.300 places avant la fermeture à 1.913 places, dans le respect de la norme internationale d'écoute fixée à 10 m3 par spectateur. Quatre balcons latéraux, pouvant chacun accueillir 19 personnes, ont été ajoutés pour servir d'abat-sons et recentrer l'acoustique. Bannières de fond de scène, draperies et rideaux blancs sur les parois latérales complètent le traitement des surfaces. Evidemment, tous les éléments de confort et de sécurité ont été revus, avec l'agrandissement de l'espacement entre les fauteuils, la création d'un désenfumage mécanique ou encore d'une passerelle technique support d'éclairage indirect, le tout dans « le rapport d'équilibre », cher à l'architecte. « Il ne s'agit pas d'un lieu technique mais d'un univers raffiné et contemporain qui privilégie la sensualité pour le plaisir du spectateur. »
Un projet à La Villette
Au final, l'opération aura coûté entre 30 et 33 millions d'euros de travaux, immeuble de bureaux sur la rue compris. Le loyer de la Cité de la musique est annoncé pour 1,5 million d'euros annuel pour la salle seule. Comme le souligne François Ceria : « La beauté de ce projet est d'avoir su fédérer des énergies différentes. » Avant l'heure et sans le dire, le montage s'apparente à un PPP (partenariat-public-privé) dont peuvent se féliciter tous les acteurs mais aussi et avant tout le public parisien. D'ores et déjà, l'Etat et la Ville de Paris promettent de poursuivre leur collaboration dans le projet d'une grande salle de concert à La Villette, prévue pour 2012. Que la musique soit !

Paris’s acclaimed concert hall the Salle Pleyel celebrates its Art Deco heritage as it opens again after four years with a voluptuous new white look
Paris’s Salle Pleyel reopened its doors on September 13th with the aptly named ‘Resurrection’ Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler performed by the Orchestre de Paris and conducted by Christoph Eschenbach. The resurrection of the concert hall, which sits loftily at the top end of the fashionable faubourg-Saint-Honoré in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, has long been eagerly awaited in musical circles. The building has been completely renovated, its first total overhaul since its construction in 1927 by the architect Jean-Marcel Auburtin working with the musician Gustave Lyon, who trained at the prestigious Parisian engineering institutions the Ecole des Mines and the Ecole polytechnique and who was running Pleyel at the time.
The Salle Pleyel is unique in being the only concert hall in Paris to have been built specifically for the performance of musical symphonies. It has certainly had its ups and downs over the years and has weathered more than a few stormy interludes. Just nine months after the hall first opened, it was ravaged by fire and had to be re-built. Then the great depression of 1933 resulted in the Pleyel company being forced to transfer ownership of the hall to its bank the Crédit Lyonnais, who ran the place until 1998 when they in turn were forced to sell. The industrialist Hubert Martigny bought up the place via his property company ISDH for his wife and conductor Carla Maria Tarditi, much to the horror of Parisians who felt the purchase to be against the interest of the general public. It was to take another meeting of two great men in the story of the Salle Pleyel’s renovation and management for the destiny of the hall to play itself out. Just as a meeting between Lyon and Auburtin set the wheels in motion earlier on in the century, so did another meeting decades later between Martigny and the architect François Ceria.
A concert hall of architectural interest
The project began to take shape in 2002. The contractors were brought together, working with Artec Consultants and their principal acoustic designer Tateo Nakajima. The construction work itself was entrusted to the Bouygues Group and their subsidiaries Sodearif and Elan. In 2004 the French Ministry of Culture approved the agreement between the Salle Pleyel and the Cité de la musique, the Paris-based group of institutions dedicated to music, for a lease contract on the hall for a duration of fifty years. Laurent Bayle, director of the Cité, was part of the team that drew up the architectural plan of the Salle Pleyel as well as making decisions about its music performance programmes in the future. The Orchestre de Paris and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, historically the resident orchestras of the Salle Pleyel, were to be the main occupants of the new incarnation.
Proudly claiming every inch of its parcel of land on the faubourg, the Salle Pleyel’s Art Deco facade that straddles the street conceals an interior designed according to complex geometric principles. The space that unfolds inside the Salle is certainly deceptive. The restored entrance lobby and the colonnaded grand hall curves round the rotunda, whose vaulted walls leading to a glass ceiling round are decorated with reinforced plasterwork, as prescribed in the building’s original plans. The architect François Ceria talked about the importance of the colonnades as part of the building’s structure, referring to the French poet Valéry’s likening of the colonnades to a ‘melody’. Looking down to the ground, the eye is drawn to a magnificent star design that blends the colours of Chassagne limestone beige with Jerusalem ochre stone and Zimbabwe granite black, lending a majestic tone to the listed hall whose panelled ceiling includes appliqués attributed to Baguès, ironwork from the studios of the craftsman Subes and new paintings by the contemporary graphic artist Cyril Cohen inspired by the work of the interior designer Rulhmann.
A brand new foyer
The first tour de force of the renovation project is the brand new foyer built between ground level and street level where the dance studios once stood. The space is really brought to life by the curved ambulatory around the canopy area and a sweeping long bar, features that somehow synthesise the old with the new. Three frescoes by the artist Marco del Re donated by Hubert Martigny are also on display. The space provides ventilation as well as being a fire safety feature.
The restoration that has been done here is impressive, as is the work that has been done on the artists’ entrance on the Rue Daru, but nothing can prepare the visitor for the auditorium itself – a huge hulk of a structure not unlike a ship surging forth on the waves in a setting of painstakingly restored plasterwork, as laid out in the original plans for the place. The architect François Ceria certainly had his work cut out, creating a “a crisply minimalist hall, white, like a boat floating on a wooden hull.”
The eye is further drawn towards the teak flooring, the light oak stage and the new seats upholstered in Burgundy fabric. The architect talked about the auditorium’s look, saying “The idea was to avoid at all costs any fussiness. We wanted to create a stripped down harmony of volume and of curved lines, set in three dimensions in the same way as music dissipates itself in the space around it.”
The listening experience has been improved by a re-centred stage area with terraced seating behind the stage itself that will accommodate either a choir or spectators, something that has not been seen in Paris before. The capacity has been slimmed down – the 2,300 seats before the place closed have now become 1,913 seats, working to the international acoustic norm of 10 m3 per audience member. Four lateral terraced seating areas with 19 seats on each row have been added, which muffle the sound and send the acoustics back to the centre of the auditorium. The acoustic treatment of the surfaces is completed by banners at the foot of the stage area, and fabrics and curtains along the sidewalls. Comfort and safety features have been updated of course, and the seats are bigger with more space between the seats. There’s also an automatic ventilation system and an illuminated fire exit route, features which have all been integrated in the spirit of the “harmony” so dear to the architect’s heart, who commented that “It is not about creating a functional space, but about creating a sophisticated and contemporary environment that enables an enhanced listening experience.”
Work in progress at La Villette
By the time the whole place is finished, the cost will have run to 30 to 33 million euros, including the construction cabins on the street. The Cité de la musique has confirmed its annual rent at 1.5 million euros for the use of the hall alone. François Ceria commented that “the beautiful thing about this project is that different energies have been brought together,” and it has to be said that in all but name the set up has the look of a public-private partnership. This is something that everyone with a stake in the project can be proud of – most importantly the citizens of Paris. The Paris city municipal authorities have already pledged their support to a major new concert hall at La Villette, scheduled to be opened in 2012. Let the music play!

The campsite is peaceful and relaxing, though children are certainly not forgotten, and are entertained with sports sessions, creative play, and explorer trips. Numerous bike trails nearby take you into La Baule where you can admire the Art déco facades and the grand 19th Century ‘Belle époque’ houses.

A friendly and flower-filled campsite in the heart of La Baule, just 2km from its famous long beach of powdery sand.
This flower and tree-filled campsite is right at the heart of the seaside resort of La Baule and 2 km from its beach, said to be the loveliest in Europe! The bare plots and mobile homes are surrounded by hedges and bushes for greater privacy, and shops are just 200 metres away. The nearby forest and dunes at Escoublac are great for picnics and leisurely walks along the various discovery and sports trails. And after a day lazing on the beach, there’s nothing quite like relaxing by the covered and heated pool, or enjoying an ice cream at the bar-restaurant. La Roseraie lays on a variety of entertainment including a children’s club, games evenings, karaoke and disco as well as tournaments in archery, volleyball, tennis and pétanque (bowls). The Miss and Mister camping contest is definitely not to be missed!

The Eden campsite is in a green, leafy 5 hectare setting 2.5km from La Baule’s beaches and bay area. Perfect for a weekend break, or longer!
This friendly campsite is a 5 minute walk from the shops and facilities of Escoublac and just 2.5km from the beach at La Baule. It’s in a lovely rural setting and the bare plots and those with nearly new mobile homes are cosy and comfortable. There’s a heated pool area with an enormous 85 metre water slide, a fishing lake, mini-golf, children’s entertainment, sports tournaments and themed evenings. The snack-bar-grocery sells a variety of pizzas, paninis, chicken ‘n chips, fresh bread and pastries. Angela and Philippe are delighted to show off the spectacular Loire-Atlantique area to guests, and recommend the Brière nature reserve, the Guérande salt marshes and the Saint-Nazare shipyards among many others.

Aviation and transport is where my real interest and knowledge lies but I enjoyed the Law and Economic translation element of my postgraduate course the most and am pursuing a course of study that will eventually lead to a Law in Business qualification.
Until I build up a sufficient portfolio I am still living in London but would prefer to live elsewhere eventually.
I genuinely enjoy translating and I wish I had got the idea sooner. I seem to be good at finding the right word, plus this is something that improves with practice anyway. It never feels like a chore (other than getting up very early to give that all-important final read-through before sending something off to a different time zone!). I was delighted to win the proz.com translation contest October 2009 out of 35 entries (the largest number in any language pair) in business translation, it was a real confidence booster and I really enjoyed doing it.
I did the Diploma in Translation at Surrey Uni full-time because this was the only course within shouting distance of London that specialises in Law/Business/Economics though the travelling there and back from East London is not something I would wish to repeat. Since then I have unearthed a Legal Translation course in London that I am looking at. One day when I have fewer loans to pay off I would love to do a PhD in Linguistics & Philosophy. That is my retirement plan anyway [which by the way is still several decades off!!] |
