První žena, která se probojovala do budovy berlínského kancléřství, je známa svým pragmatickým stylem a zásadovostí. Obojí prokázala na letošních summitech, kterými vyvrcholilo předsednictví Německa v Evropské unii a skupině G8. Prioritami Merkelové bylo omezení znečiš'tování ovzduší a návrh nové smlouvy, která by nahradila neúspěšnou Evropskou ústavní smlouvu.
Druhé místo obsadila čínská vicepremiérka Wu Yi. Vzhledem k masivnímu ekonomickému růstu Číny je pravděpodobné, že v dohledné době tato ekonomika předběhne německou jako třetí nejsilnější na světě. S rostoucí mocí však Wu Yi přibývají i problémy - odmítla například revalvaci juanu při nedávných americko-čínských obchodních jednáních.

Angela Merkel, the federal chancellor for the German Christian Democrats, has won the prestigious ranking of the world's most powerful women for the second time in a row. The American magazine Forbes publishes a list of the hundred women with the most influence on world affairs every year.
The first woman to have made it to the office of the chancellery in Berlin is known for her pragmatic style and her scrupulousness. She demonstrated both qualities last year at the summits that marked the culmination of the German presidency of the European Union and of the G8. Merkel's priorities were the limitation of atmospheric pollution and a proposal for a new treaty replacing the unsuccessful European constitution treaty.
The second place is occupied by Chinese vice-premier Wu Yi. With regard to China's massive economic growth, it is probable that its economy will surpass that of Germany as the third strongest in the world in the foreseeable future. With this increase of power Wu Yi has also encountered extra problems – for example she refused to revalue the Yuan at recent Sino-American commercial negotiations.

Angela Merkel, la chancelière fédérale issue du rang des chrétiens-démocrates allemands, a remporté pour la seconde fois d'affilé le prestigieux classement des femmes les plus puissantes du monde. Le magazine américain Forbes publie chaque année la liste des cent femmes possédant la plus grande influence sur les événements mondiaux.
La première femme à s'imposer au siège de la chancellerie à Berlin est connue pour son style pragmatique et scrupuleux. Elle a démontré ces deux qualités l'an dernier aux sommets qui ont marqué la culmination de la présidence allemande de l'Union Européenne et du G8. Les priorités de Merkel étaient la réduction de la pollution atmosphérique et le projet d'un nouveau traité palliant l'échec du traité de constitution européenne.
La deuxième place est occupée par la vice-première ministre chinoise Wu Yi. Au vu de la croissance économique massive de la Chine, il est probable dans un avenir proche que cette économie dépasse celle de l'Allemagne en tant que troisième plus forte au monde. Mais avec cet accroissement de pouvoir les problèmes de Wu Yi se multiplient eux aussi - elle a par exemple refusé la réévaluation du yuan à l'occasion de récentes négociations commerciales sino-américaines.
