| Translation - English Important to Know about Electives 2012-13
Electives are taken in years two and three, and the total number of points that you will earn if you study under the GY-2011-system (year 2) is 200. In other words, you will earn 100 points per year.
Electives begin for year two in November 2012. For those studying under the old system, the total is 300. In this case, you will earn 150 points per year.
How can I receive more information on the elective courses?
Year one students will receive information in the cafeteria on January 26, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
If you have questions about the course contents, contact the teacher listed as contact person. (Telephone/email address is in your student information sheet)
By when should I have made my selection?
The web opens on January 26 via Edwise. The website will close on February 6 and you should have made your selection by this time.
Those who have not chosen their elective by this date will be placed in empty spots and will not be given the opportunity to switch courses (see below).
Will I have the opportunity to change my selection?
No. If you were not able to get a spot in your selected course, you will receive an individual advising session with an academic advisor and be given the opportunity to make a new selection.
Thereafter, you will received a guaranteed spot in the elective course, and you may not, for example, change at the beginning of the semester in August.
How do I make my selection?
Those in year 2 will choose a 100-point course for the next academic year. Students entering year 3 the next academic year should have acquired a total of 150 points. Choose a 50-point course for period 1 and a 100-point course for period 2.
You will first go on the web together with your class during week five and thereafter you will go onto the web yourself. When you have completed your selection, you will click: "save and print your selection" and you will then receive a printout.
What are the chances that I will receive a place in the course?
With some exceptions concerning college entrance requirements, the course must have a minimum number of participants in order to be taught.
When a course goes over the maximum number of participants it is removed from the program schedule. Year three students have priority over year two students.
Those students who do not receive a place in their elective are called to an advising session with an academic adviser.
Local or national course?
Year three only:
The courses that have the initials LK after the course number are local courses taught only at Sunds-gymnasiet.

I am a native U.S. English speaker and have been translating professionally on a part-time basis for over two years. I currently seek to expand my practice to full-time and wish to develop new, long-term relationships with outsourcers and direct clients.
My primary language pair is Swedish to English and my areas of specialty include administrative law, politics, music, general business, and geography. I will only accept projects translating into my native language and do not accept projects outside of my knowledge areas. I accept general projects translating from Norwegian, Danish, and Russian to English.
I am a full member of ProZ.com and an Associate Member of the American Translator's Association, Nordic and Slavic Languages Divisions.
In-Country Experience
My first exposure to the Swedish language was as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student in southern Sweden in 2001, where I lived in a rural area and attended a local high school for a year, studying in the music track. In college, I spent six months at Lunds Universitet where I earned a certificate of Advanced Swedish and took courses related to my primary area of studies, geography, taught in Swedish. I have maintained and advanced my knowledge of the language through frequent travel to Sweden, self-study, and for more than two years as a freelance translator.
I spent the 2010-2011 year in Moscow, Russia as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, where I engaged in Master's level studies related to geopolitical affairs in Eurasia at MGIMO. Additionally, I have studied musical instruments and music theory both in Russia and Sweden.
Other Career
I have a B.A. in Geography and have worked full-time in research, editorial, and administrative capacities in government relations, working with issues related to energy, health care, education, and gaming, and at a leading international law firm, working with their energy regulatory group.
