Most of the instruments in XXX are complex waves containing many sine waves of various amplitudes and frequencies. A filter is a device which allows us to remove certain components of a sound depending on its frequency. For example, a Low Pass Filter, one of the AAA filters in XXX, lets the low frequencies pass and removes only the high frequencies. The point at which the frequencies begin to be cut is called the Cutoff Frequency (or Fc for short). A filter that let only the high frequencies pass would be called a High Pass filter. Using a filter, we now have a way to control the harmonic content of a sampled sound. As it turns out, a low pass filter can simulate the response of many natural sounds. For example, when a piano string is struck by its hammer, there are initially a lot of high frequencies present. If the same note is played softer, there will be fewer of the high frequencies generated by the string. We can simulate this effect by routing the velocity of the keyboard to control the amount of high frequencies that the low pass filter lets through. The result is expressive, natural control over the sound.
The auxiliary envelope generator is commonly used to control the cutoff frequency of the AAA filter. This allows the frequency content to be varied dynamically over the course of the note. Dynamic filtering coupled with all the different instruments available, makes for almost endless possibilities in the final sound.

Większość instrumentów modułu brzmieniowego XXX to złożone fale, zawierające fale sinusoidalne o różnej amplitudzie i częstotliwości. Filtr jest urządzeniem, które pozwala usunąć pewne elementy składowe brzmienia, zależnie od jego częstotliwości. Na przykład filtr dolnoprzepustowy (Low Pass Filter), jeden z filtrów typu AAA w module XXX, pozwala na zatrzymanie niskich częstotliwości, a usuwa jedynie częstotliwości wysokie. Punkt, w którym częstotliwości są odcinane, nazywany jest częstotliwością odcięcia (Cutoff Frequency - w skrócie Fc). Filtr, który zachowuje jedynie wysokie częstotliwości, nazywamy filtrem górnoprzepustowym (High Pass filter). Używając filtra jesteśmy w stanie kontrolować zawartość harmoniczną próbkowanego dźwięku. Okazuje się, że za pomocą filtra dolnoprzepustowego można imitować charakterystykę wielu naturalnych źródeł dźwięku. Dla przykładu, kiedy struna fortepianu uderzana jest młoteczkiem, na początku obecnych jest wiele wysokich częstotliwości. Jeśli ta sama nuta grana jest łagodniej, wysokich częstotliwości wytwarzanych przez strunę jest mniej. Jesteśmy w stanie imitować ten efekt, uzależniając ilość wysokich częstotliwości przepuszczanych przez filtr dolnoprzepustowy od siły docisku klawiatury. Efektem jest możliwość wpływania na charakter brzmienia w sposób naturalny i pełen ekspresji.
Pomocniczy generator obwiedni jest najczęściej używany po to, aby kontrolować częstotliwość odcięcia filtra typu AAA. Dzięki temu częstotliwość dźwięku staje się zróżnicowana pod względem dynamiki przez czas, w którym grana jest pojedyncza nuta. Użycie filtrowania dynamicznego, połączone z wszystkimi dostępnymi instrumentami, zapewnia niemalże nieskończoną gamę możliwości tworzenia ostatecznego brzmienia.

STEP RECORDING OF NOTES FROM THE KEYBOARD (OR MIDI IN)
The next patch shows how you can play in the sequence key by key from the XXX keyboard. A two-pole Switch module is used to switch between ‘play’ mode and ‘step record’ mode. The basic patch is similar to the previous one, with the Link, Rst and Loop connectors connected in the standard way. By switching the clock between the Keyboard Gate and the Clock Generator and connecting the Keaboard Gate to the yellow Rec Enable inputs, the patch can be switched easily between play and record mode. But the little catch is that recording should in this example patch always start at the first step of the first sequencer and when the patch is switched to play mode it should also start at the first step (well, that is how the patcher wanted it to be). And this start behaviour no matter if the clock is running or not. This means that the reset signal must be set up in a way that this works. The trick used is to make use of the Ctrl ouput of the switch module and combine this signal with the Clk Active signal. Two logic functions are used, a XNOR and an OR function. We won’t explain in detail here why this works, for now just trust that it works.

ZAPISYWANIE NUT METODĄ KROKOWĄ ZA POMOCĄ KLAWIATURY (LUB WEJŚCIA MIDI IN)
Kolejna konfiguracja pokazuje w jaki sposób można wgrać sekwencję, nuta po nucie, za pomocą klawiatury XXX. Dwubiegunowy moduł Switch stosujemy, aby przełączać pomiędzy trybami odtwarzania i zapisu metodą krokową. Podstawowa konfiguracja podobna jest do poprzedniej - wejścia Link, Rst i Loop połączone są ze sobą w standardowy sposób. Przełączając zegar z opcji odbioru sygnału z bramki klawiatury (Keyboard Gate) do opcji generatora zegara (Clock Generator) - i odwrotnie - oraz tworząc połączenie bramki klawiatury z żółtymi wejściami Rec Enable, sprawiamy, że z łatwością można przełączać konfigurację pomiędzy trybami zapisu i odtwarzania. Pewna trudność polega na tym, że zapis w tej przykładowej konfiguracji powinien zawsze zaczynać się od pierwszego kroku pierwszego sekwencera i kiedy konfiguracja przełączana jest w tryb odtwarzania, również odtwarzanie powinno mieć miejsce począwszy od pierwszego kroku (taki był zamysł twórcy konfiguracji). Poza tym takie zachowanie trybu odtwarzania ma być niezależne od tego, czy zegar jest włączony, czy nie. Oznacza to, że aby opisana metoda zadziałała, sygnał resetujący musi być odpowiednio skonfigurowany. Zastosowany tutaj trik polega na tym, że wykorzystujemy wyjście Ctrl modułu przełącznika, a sygnał z tego wyjścia łączymy z sygnałem Clk Active. Użyte zostają dwie funkcje logiczne - XNOR i OR. Na razie należy po prostu uwierzyć, że to działa, natomiast jak to działa - nie wyjaśnimy tutaj dokładnie.
