Initial maintenance of non mortared joints:
Refilling joints:
Jointing material may be lost from paving joints in early life during both dry and wet weather. In dry weather dry jointing material on the surface of the joint can be lost before it can consolidate. Particularly on steep slopes, the material can be washed from the surface of the joints during heavy rain in its early life. It is therefore important to inspect areas of new paving regularly in their early life and top up joints if necessary.
Sweeping:
Until joints have become stabilised (naturally or chemically) the paving should only be brushed by hand. Mechanical sweepers, (see following section) and in particular sweepers with high suction forces should not be used in the early life of the pavement. If they are used, there is a real risk of loss of jointing material from between the paving units. This is particually impor- tant for permeable pavements that have enlarged joints or voids.
Permeable Pavements:
The infiltration rate of a permeable concrete block pavement will decrease but stabilize with age, due to the build-up of detritus in the jointing material. However, evidence to date suggests that infiltration rates always remain significantly higher than rainfall intensity, so, even without maintenance, there should be sufficient infiltration to accommodate rainfall events. Despite this, some would argue in favour of vacuum cleaning the pavement to maintain infiltration rates and, in any event, vacuuming might be required for general cleaning. Care should be taken in adjusting vacuuming equipment to avoid removal of jointing material and any lost material should be replaced.
Most importantly, soil and other fine materials must be prevented from contaminating the pavement surface. Water ponding on the surface will almost certainly indicate that there is insufficient infiltration and the joints/voids may require sweeping clean or, in extreme cases, replacing.
As with conventional concrete block pavements, depressions, rutting and cracked or broken blocks, considered to be detrimental to the structural performance of the pavement or a hazard to users, will require appropriate corrective action. If required, de-iceing salts can be used, as they are dispersed into the pavement rather than concentrated into watercourses.
Sealants:
Any form of surface sealing used on the paving must be applied in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. It must be accepted that sealants, see Sealing of Block Paving, may have an effect on the colour of the paving, its slip/skid resistance and may require on-going main- tenance during the life of the paving. It is also important that the surface of the units is dry and clean before any sealer is applied.

Aun de mayor importancia, se debe prever que la tierra y otros materiales finos contaminen la superficie del adoquín. Si se forman lagunas en la superficie del adoquín esto significa que hay filtración deficiente y que las juntas/espacios pueden requerir que se barra o, en casos extremos, se reemplacen.
Así como en el caso de los adoquines de concreto convencional, las depresiones, surcos y bloques rotos o quebrados se consideran un detrimento al desempeño de la estructura del adoquín o un peligro para los usuarios, que requerirá de una acción correctiva apropiada. Si se requiere, las sales para deshielar pueden ser utilizadas ya que se dispersan en el adoquín y no se concentran en los flujos de agua.
Selladores:
Cualquier superficie de sellador utilizado en el adoquín debe ser aplicada estrictamente de acuerdo con las instrucciones del fabricante. Se debe aceptar que los selladores, ver Sellado de los Adoquines de Bloque, pueden tener un efecto en el color del adoquín, en su resistencia a deslizarse/patinarse y puede requerir un mantenimiento continuo durante la vida del adoquín. También es importante que la superficie de las unidades esté limpia y seca antes de aplicar cualquier sellador.

PROCEDIMIENTO ESPECIFICO PARA LA REPARACIÓN DE CHAFLANES (RODERAS RTGC) FASE II-A
1 OBJETIVO
Establecer las actividades correspondientes a la reparación de los chaflanes de las roderas RTGC, bajo las normas de calidad que se aplican en cada uno de los procesos de reparación desde el análisis de los materiales empleados, la calidad de las resinas utilizadas, así como los componentes utilizados para la reparación de chaflanes, así como la mano de obra empleada para la reparación de la rodera de concreto.
Se aplicarán los sistemas de calidad y seguridad correspondientes a este procedimiento específico y estará sujeto a revisiones durante el proceso de reparación de los chaflanes de las roderas y se harán las correspondientes observaciones cuando se informe un cambio con anticipación, cuidando que en todas sus etapas se cumplan todos los requisitos que marca cada especificación para cada actividad, con el fin de garantizar el buen funcionamiento y cumplir con la seguridad de la estructura, así como la del personal que participa en el proceso constructivo.
2 ALCANCE
Este procedimiento es de aplicación para todo el personal involucrado en la reparación de los chaflanes de las roderas de concreto, desde el control de calidad, compras, mano de obra, seguridad, para todas las actividades relacionadas con la reparación de los chaflanes en las roderas RTG.
3 ASPECTOS DE SEGURIDAD, HIGIENE, SALUD Y PROTECCIÓN AMBIENTAL
Todo el personal deberá contar con su equipo de seguridad correspondiente a la actividad que se encuentre realizando para la prevención de accidentes y protección personal.
a) Seguridad
1. Los equipos de apoyo que interactúan en este procedimiento deben estar dotados de iluminación adecuada, y de alarma sonora y visual cuando estén en maniobra.
2. Se deben respetar los límites de velocidad en sitio.
3. Cuando se efectúen trabajos nocturnos se deben implementar generadores de energía y reflectores de iluminación suficientes para garantizar la seguridad de los trabajos.
4. Establecer un radio de seguridad para maniobras de grúas, donde se debe observar que no exista personal no involucrado en la maniobra dentro de este radio.
5. En el sitio donde se llevan acabo los trabajos de este procedimiento deben existir extinguidores de fuego.
b) Equipo de Protección Personal
1. Ropa de Trabajo
2. Casco de seguridad
3. Guantes
4. Zapatos de seguridad
5. Chaleco de Seguridad o Cinta reflejante en ropa de trabajo
6. Lentes de Seguridad
7. Faja de Soporte Lumbar
Nota: este equipo de trabajo para protección personal aplicara de acuerdo al tipo de actividad que ejecute el personal obrero.
b) Higiene y Salud
1) Mantener Orden en las áreas de trabajo.
2) Mantener la Limpieza General en las áreas de trabajo.
3) Se deberán instalar servicios sanitarios con base al número de trabajadores que intervienen en los trabajos de este procedimiento.
4) Se deberán proveer agua potable para consumo humano suficiente para el número de trabajadores que intervienen en este procedimiento.
5) Se instalará botiquín de primeros auxilios en el lugar de los trabajos.
c) Protección Ambiental
1) Manejo de Residuos.- Los Residuos generados del proceso constructivo deben ser manejados de acuerdo a su clasificación y en los recipientes correspondientes.
2) Suministro de Combustibles.- Durante el abastecimiento de combustible para la operación de los equipos que así lo requieren, se deben prevenir y evitar derrames que pudieran producir impregnación en suelos.
3) Mantenimiento y Lubricación.- Al efectuar el mantenimiento y lubricación de los equipos, se deben prevenir las fugas y confinar los residuos generados por este mantenimiento en los recipientes adecuados.
Nota: Cualquier situación de seguridad, higiene, salud y protección ambiental no considerada en este procedimiento será analizada y resuelta, por el área de aseguramiento de calidad, con la participación de la Supervisión, con base en la normatividad de la STPS.
SECCION 4 HA SIDO ELIMINADA PARA UNA REVISION DE FUNCIONES
5 ANTECEDENTES
Una sección inicial de una rodera en el área de GS1 fue colada con un chaflán de 20mm x 20mm en las esquinas superiores de la sección de la rodera.
Esto no es una práctica normal cuando se colocan adoquines de concreto a lo largo y la separación resultante necesita ser rellenada con un material duradero para proporcionar algo de soporte a las orillas de los adoquines.
6 DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PROCEDIMIENTO
6.1 Identificar claramente y marcar las áreas a ser tratadas.
6.2 Limpiar y desalojar la arena en la ranura entre la orilla de la rodera RTGC y el adoquín adyacente utilizando un cepillo rígido. La arena en la junta entre el adoquín y rodera RTGC debe ser removida a 5mm por debajo del fondo del chaflán de la rodera RTGC para permitir que el material para base de apoyo SikaRod (Cola de rata) sea insertada.
6.3 La junta no debe de ser limpiada utilizando aire comprimido ya que no queremos remover más arena de las juntas de los adoquines.
6.4 Insertar el material para base de apoyo SikaRod en la parte superior de la junta entre el adoquín y la orilla de de la rodera RTGC.
6.5 Aplicar primario a los lados de los adoquines y la rodera RTGC con SikaFlex Primer – 429/202 de SIKA
6.6 Aplicar el Sikaflex – 2c SL de conformidad con las instrucciones del fabricante.
6.7 El nivel superior del relleno debe mantenerse a 5mm por debajo de la parte superior del adoquín, lo que significa no más alto que el chaflán del adoquín de los adoquines adyacentes
6.8 Todo el trabajo debe ser realizado en condiciones secas y libres de humedad
6.9 MATERIALES EMPLEADOS
Se utilizara los siguientes productos SIKA que serán empleados de acuerdo a las recomendaciones del fabricante:
• SikaRod Carrete ¼”
• Sikaflex Primer – 429/202
• Sikaflex – 2c SL
Nota: Se anexan fichas técnicas de los productos sika usados para la reparación de los chaflanes.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR REPAIR OF
RTGC RUNWAY CHAMFERS PHASE II-A
1 OBJECT
Establish correspondent activities for repair of RTGC runway chamfers, under quality rules applied on every reparation stage, from analysis of materials employed, quality of resins used, as well as all components used for chamfer repairs, and workforce employed for concrete runway repair.
Specified Project’s quality and safety systems will be applied to this specific procedure and will be subject to revisions during the runway chamfer repair. Corresponding observations will be advised in advance when a change is made, taking care that all stages comply with the specified requirements for each activity; and to guarantee proper performance, and to achieve the security of the structure and personnel involved in the repair process.
2 SCOPE
This procedure is general and mandatory to all personnel involved in the concrete runway chamfer repair process, like acquisitions, labor, and security; and for all the activities related to the RTGC runway chamfer repair.
3 SECURITY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ISSUES
All personnel must have security equipment accordingly to the activities performed in order to provide personal protection and prevent accidents.
a) Security
1. Equipments interacting in this process must be provided with suitable lighting, and sound and visual alarm when maneuvering.
2. In-site speed limits must be followed.
3. When performing night Works, sufficient energy generators and lighting reflectors must be provided to guarantee work security.
4. Set up a safety radius for cranes maneuvers, where visibly no personnel involved in the maneuvers will not be allowed within this area.
5. Fire extinguishers must be placed in the site where this procedure works are performed.
b) Personal Protection Equipment
1. Work gear
2. Security helmet
3. Gloves
4. Security shoes
5. Security vest or reflex tapes on work gear
6. Security glasses
7. Abdominal or Lumbar support
Note: This personal protection working equipment will apply according to the activity performed by each worker.
c) Health and Safety
1) Maintain order in all working areas.
2) Keep general cleanness in working areas.
3) Sanitary services must be installed according to the number of people working in this procedure.
4) Enough potable water will be supplied for human consumption depending on the number of people working in this procedure.
5) First aid medical kit must be placed in the working area.
d) Environmental Protection
1) Residues handling. - Construction Process generated residues must be handled according to their classification and in the correspondent containers.
2) Fuel Supply. - During fuel supply for all those equipments that require, leakage that may produce soil contamination should be prevented and avoided.
3) Lubricating and Maintenance. - When maintaining and lubricating equipments, leakage should be prevented in order to prevent soil impregnation.
Note: Any security, health, hygiene, and environmental protection situation not considered in this procedure will be analyzed and be solved by the supervision and quality assurance area.
SECTION 4 HAS BEEN DELETED TO REVIEW ACTIVITIES
5 BACKGROUND
An initial section of RTGC runway in Area GS1 was cast with a 20mm x 20mm chamfer to the upper edges of the runway section.
This is not normal practice when laying concrete blocks alongside and the resultant gap needs to be filled with a durable filler to provide some support to the edge of blocks.
6 PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
6.1 Clearly identify and mark out the areas to be treated.
6.2 Clean out and loose sand in the groove between the RTGC runway edge and the adjacent concrete block using a stiff brush. The sand in the joint between the concrete block and the RTGC runway is to be removed to 5mm deep below the bottom of the RTGC runway chamfer to allow the SikaRod backing material to be inserted.
6.3 The joint is not to be cleaned out using compressed air as we do not want to remove any more sand from the block joints.
6.4 Insert the 1/4" SikaRod backing material in the top of the joint between the concrete blocks and the edge of the RTGC runway.
6.5 Prime the sides of the concrete blocks and RTGC runway with Sikaflex Primer- 429/202 primer.
6.6 Apply the Sikaflex -2c SL in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
6.7 The level of the top of the filler is to be kept 5mm below the top of the concrete block, i.e. not higher than the bottom of the 5mm chamfer on the top edge of the adjacent concrete blocks.
6.8 All work to be done in dry conditions and free from moisture.
6.9 MATERIALS EMPLOYED
It is proposed to use the following SIKA products which are in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations:
• SikaRod Coil ¼”
• Sikaflex Primer – 429/202
• Sikaflex – 2c SL
