Methylene chloride, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, DDT, freons and iodoform are some of the examples of polyhalogen compounds. These compounds can not be easily decomposed and are responsible for ozone depletion and proves fatal towards atmosphere. Polyhalo compounds The halo compound which contain more than one halo atom, or halogen elements are called as poly halo compounds. They are classified as dihalo compounds , trihalo compounds, tetrahalo compounds etc. Some of the examples are given below, Dichloromethane, trichloromethane, triiodomethane, tetrachloromethane, ferons, p-p'-dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane. Polyhalo compounds are used in agriculture, medicine, pharmaceutical & Industries. Among these compounds the trichloromethane(chloroform) is widely used as an anesthetic agent. Source text - English The human digestive system starts from the mouth, which opens into a chamber or cavity called buccal cavity. At the floor of the cavity, we find a muscular tongue. The buccal cavity is bounded by upper and lower jaws, which have four different kinds of teeth namely the incisors, canines, premolars and molars. These help in chewing the food and make it easy for swallowing. Three pairs of salivary glands are also located in the buccal cavity. The salivary glands secrete saliva, which is taken through ducts into the buccal cavity. The human saliva contains an enzyme called ‘ptyalin’, which can act on starch and convert it into maltose. Thus, digestion of carbohydrates begins in the buccal cavity itself. The buccal cavity leads into a funnel shaped pharynx, which in turn leads to a long and tubular oesophagus. The walls of the oesophagus are highly muscular; in order to help the peristaltic motion of the masticated food. The oesophagus opens into the j-shaped stomach, present on the left side of the abdomen. The stomach walls are provided with branched and tubular glands, secretions from these glands are collectively called gastric juices. The gastric juice is a mixture of secretory products from three types of glands. The glands secreting hydrochloric acid, protein digesting enzymes and mucus.
