Especially manuals and other texts meant for end users. The correct localization of user interfaces can be essential for the success of a particular application on any foreign market. Writing and designing software requires a constant awareness of the potential end user and his or her needs. Over the years this has become a second nature for me.
An excellent command of the source language is a prerequisite for high quality translations, but is not enough when it comes to software related issues. To actually have designed software, including writing the code, provides a level of experience that has proven to be rare in the world of translating. |
