I am a freelance English/Basque/Spanish translator based in the Basque Country (Spain).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Translation

· In 2008 I obtained the Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) provided by the London Chartered Institute of Linguists. This is "a widely recognised international postgraduate qualification which provides a real measure of professional standard" (www.iol.org.uk). The units I took were: general, social science and technology.

· From 2005 to 2007 I took an extensive Legal and Journalistic Translation online course, provided by the Barcelona International House. This course prepared me for the Legal Interpreter examination held by the Spanish Government.

· In early 2009, I took a Freelance Translator’s Course from Tragora, Granada, Spain.

· I have recently taken a web site translation course, provided by SIC Barcelona.

Languages

· In 2003 I passed the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (level C2), with a grade A. CPE is Cambridge ESOL's most advanced exam.

· In 2003 I obtained the Euskararen Gaitasun Agiria (EGA), which is a high-level Basque language qualification.

University

· In 2003 I graduated in Early Childhood Education, at the University of the Basque Country.


TRANSLATION MEMBERSHIPS


· In January 2009, I was admitted as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (London). The CIL is a professional body of qualified linguists. To be admitted to any of its grades, members have to undergo stringent admission criteria and, once admitted, they are governed by the Professional Code of Conduct, a copy of which is available on request.

· I am also a member of EIZIE (Association of Basque Translators, Proofreaders and Interpreters)

Linguistic and translation skills are not the only important things when it comes to offering and efficient and professional translation service. My years working in a customer service oriented environment have proved invaluable in helping me develop the following skills, which I consider relevant in the area of translation and essential to carry out work in the most professional manner.
