Source text - English Script for EEA video on CC impacts TIME TO ACT Earlier this century we saw, with devastating effect, and the loss of thousands of lives, the impact of heat waves on people and nature across Europe. We also know that since temperature recording began in 1865, eleven of the twelve hottest years on Earth have occurred between 1995 and 2006. The oceans are getting warmer and global sea levels have risen. 20 years ago climate change was the realm of scientists and statisticians and at the periphery of public consciousness. Today it is the most pressing environmental challenge we all face, one that will have consequences for all of us and for next generations. To avoid major irreversible impacts on society and ecosystems, we must act now. Due to human activities, mainly burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are exceeding the natural range from the previous millennia. As a result, climate change has become a real and current threat. We see, for example, that • The number of hot and cold extremes has increased over the last 50 years, as well as the intensity and variability of rain fall; • European glaciers and ice in Greenland, the Arctic and Antarctic are melting rapidly; • River flows have increased in the north and decreased in the south of Europe; and • The average temperature of the oceans has increased – it is likely that the Arctic will have ice-free summers well before the end of this century. Ecosystems are especially vulnerable to climate change. Already we see how changing temperatures and rainfall are disturbing ecosystems; fish, plants, birds, insects, mammals and other animal groups are moving northwards and, where possible, uphill. Not only are the oceans becoming warmer, but they are also becoming more acidic. This will severely affect the ability of marine organisms, such as corals and shellfish, to produce their skeletons and shells, with knock-on effects for various other species. Source text - English LDCs are facing increasingly complicated challenges, the UN system is undergoing reform and the World Bank’s signature practice areas – Local Development and Microfinance – are experiencing strong growth and attracting many new players. The time is therefore ripe to revisit the World Bank’s overall strategy, with a view to defining concretely how the organization will contribute to helping the LDCs reach the MDGs over the next three years (2010 – 2013). What follows is the product of an inclusive process that began with a series of management brainstorming sessions in June 2009. These sessions were designed to improve policymaking in the area of capacity development in middle-income countries, and to enable decision makers, especially those in post-conflict situations, to input into the process. • The financial crisis that began in the U.S. in 2007 has become a worldwide economic crisis that threatens to reverse many of the gains made by developing countries in recent years. The LDCs are likely to be particularly hard hit as overall growth slows, financial flows including remittances decline, and as access to markets becomes more difficult. • The outlook for Official Development Assistance (ODA) is uncertain. ODA held up in 2008 but key donors may not be able to meet future pledges or even present commitments. • The economic crisis comes on top of sharp rises in food prices as well as the increasing effects of climate change; LDCs are amongst the hardest hit and least able to cope. • New financing mechanisms may present an opportunity to link the climate change agenda with poverty reduction. El vicepresidente ya tenía en claro cómo iba a votar y así lo había demostrado con sus acciones previas de convocar a legisladores, reunirse con las entidades y tomar contacto con las máximas autoridades eclesiásticas en busca del diálogo. "Advirtió que sacar una ley que ratificara la resolución 125 no era solucionar el conflicto sino aumentar las dificultades", afirmó. Y destacó también la posibilidad de revertir la situación que Cobos le concedió a los senadores kirchneristas al ofrecerles pasar a cuarto intermedio a fin de elaborar una propuesta consensuada que pudiera quebrar el empate en 36 votos que se había producido. La actitud de Cobos fue "invalorable" para la democracia, que a partir de ese momento, el representante del poder ejecutivo en el Senado fue considerado como un traidor por los seguidores de la presidente, y como un héroe por los productores agropecuarios. As regards animal production and meat, what producers ask for is that the price of livestock is liberated; that bovine meat exports are made more flexible; that incentives to raise slaughtering weight are applied; and that a heifers retention program is implemented. In fact, the ONCCA (“Oficina de Control Comercial Agropecuario” - Agricultural Trade Control National Bureau) has recently informed that meat production in July was the highest of this year as it reached 294 thousand tons and surpassed the levels of last year in 4.1%. According to the Bureau, 1,339,649 head were slaughtered, of which 49.3% were female. Such a ratio clearly shows a noticeable phase of cattle sale. The normal situation would be that female slaughter is not higher than 41% or 42%. Cattle values are practically frozen since 2006. Meanwhile, meat consumption is on the hike, boosted by the low relative prices of this product compared to other foodstuffs.

This article studied the question: Is it possible that the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine is related to the occurrence of autism in children? Introduction/Background Why do some researchers and the media believe the MMR vaccine causes autism? In 1998, Wakefield and his team of scientists in Great Britain estimated that giving measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines to the same child within a short time period may be a possible cause of autism in that child. There has been a lot of debate about this among scientists, in the media, and among parents of children with autism. The combined MMR vaccine was first given to young children in 1971. In 1999 in California, the California Department of Developmental Services (CDDS) published information that demonstrated the increase in MMR vaccines given to children. This information covered 1987-1998, an amount of time that was similar to the Wakefield group. As a result, some scientists and media organizations connected the Wakefield estimate with the CDDS information. Every year hundreds of people die while waiting for a transplant and many others lose their lives before they even get on to the transplant list. There is a serious shortage of organs and the gap between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for a transplant is increasing. Transplants are very successful and the number of people needing a transplant is expected to rise steeply due to an ageing population, an increase in kidney failure and scientific advances which mean that more people are now able to benefit from a transplant. The number of available organs has fallen for several reasons. Only a very small number of people die in circumstances where they are able to donate their organs. Because organs have to be transplanted very soon after someone has died they can only be donated by someone who has died in hospital. Usually organs come from people who are certified dead while on a ventilator in a hospital intensive care unit, generally as a result of a major accident like a car crash, a brain haemorrhage or stroke. The numbers of people, particularly younger people, dying in these circumstances is falling mainly because of welcome improvements in road safety, medical advances in the treatment of patients and the prevention of strokes in younger people. While only a very few people die in circumstances which would enable their organs to be donated, virtually everyone can donate their corneas to help others to see or give bone, skin or other tissue after their death. Another major reason is that many people have not thought about donation or discussed it with their families. Dos años más tarde lo deja tras obtener un premio especial por sus dotes para la declamación y se va a París, en donde hace de actor secundario en distintos circuitos teatrales y de variedades. Este período de entrenamiento durará aproximadamente tres años y supone la conformación poco a poco de su estilo de interpretación. Precisamente actúa junto a una pareja teatral famosa de la época –Max Dearly y Suzanne Lender-, lo que da pie al historiador cinematográfico George Sadoul para establecer la hipótesis del cambio al apelativo artístico: coge el nombre del actor –que también era uno de los dos que tenía él- y el apellido de la actriz, que modifica levemente.
