- 1930-50, Contrôle Qualité = Politique qualité réactive: Le tri et le contrôle en fin de production permettaient d ’éliminer les pièces hors tolérance (Niveau de Qualité acceptable; % de tolérance). Il y avait beaucoup de mises au rebus, ce qui entraînait naturellement des coûts importants de non-qualité.
- dès après-guerre 1945-50, Assurance Qualité = Politique Qualité préventive: Mise en place de système Qualité qui grâce à l'auto-contrôle, permet l'arrêt de la chaîne de production dès qu'un défaut est constaté et la prévention des erreurs, économies (Fiabilité: probabilité de fonctionnement). Premier référentiel ISO.
- dès les années 70, TQM = Politique Qualité préventive et offensive avec un état d ’esprit mobilisant l ’ensemble des collaborateurs à la démarche:Techniques de management permettant l ’intégration de la Qualité à tous les niveaux de l'entreprise.
- dès les années 90 à 2000, BEX(Business Excellence) = Auto-évaluation en tant que facteur clé pour guider l’amélioration d ’une entreprise: Extension du TQM selon le modèle de l ’EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management= Fondation européenne pour le Management de la Qualité). C’est l’examen complet, systématique et régulier des activités et des résultats d ’une organisation par comparaison à un modèle de performance d’entreprise.

- A partire dagli anni 70, TQM = Politica della qualità preventiva e offensiva con uno stato d’animo che spinge tutti i collaboratori a intervenire: metodi di gestione che consentono l’integrazione della qualità a tutti i livelli aziendali.
- A partire dagli anni 90 fino al 2000, BEX (Business Excellence) = Autovalutazione come fattore chiave di guida al miglioramento di un’impresa: estensione del TQM secondo il modello dell’EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management = Fondazione Europea per la Gestione della Qualità). È l’esame completo, sistematico e regolare delle attività e dei risultati di un’organizzazione rispetto a un modello di performance d’impresa.
