Tooth Whitening (Bleaching) Questions and Answers
What is home bleaching?
Bleaching is a safe, effective and economical way to whiten your teeth and brighten your smile. It uses thin plastic trays that are custom fit to your mouth. These trays hold the bleaching gel next to the teeth so the whitening can occur.
How does it work?
Think of it as tanning in reverse. The bleaching gel acts as the sun. Just as skin gets darker when exposed to sunlight, teeth get lighter when exposed to the bleaching gel. The brand of bleaching gel that we use is called Opalescence. It’s available in three different strengths: 10% (Florida sun), 15% (Acapulco sun), and 20% (Equator sun). If a night of bleaching makes your teeth or gums sensitive, you’ll need to not bleach for a night or two (like staying out of the sun if you get a sunburn), and then resume again when the sensitivity goes away.
How long does the process take?
If the bleaching trays are worn nightly, most people see noticeable results in one to two weeks. The trays may also be worn during the day, if you prefer, for a two hour period.
How many dentist visits are needed?
Visit 1: Take impressions of mouth so custom fit bleaching trays can be made.
Visit 2: Deliver bleaching kit and demonstrate how to use it.
Visit 3: Check progress of whitening, make any modifications if needed.

What Is A New Patient Exam?
A new patient exam is a detailed session that will take about one hour. You will need to provide your health history to help us better diagnose your condition. Dr. Mike will meet with your to review your health history, and determine if you are in need of chiropractic care and how you could benefit from care. He will provide an examination looking at your range of motion, reflexes and nerve functions.
If needed, he will take x-rays with views of your spine to locate problems, reveal any pathology, and make your chiropractic care more precise.
When Do I Get My First Adjustment?
Generally you will not get adjusted on the first visit. Dr. Mike feels it is important to take a thorough look at your x-rays and health history, and will evaluate his findings to create a care plan designed for you. On your second visit Dr. Mike will review his findings, outline a care plan and make any adjustments he feels will help you on the road to recovery and overall wellness.
What Is An Adjustment; Will It Hurt?
An adjustment is a specific non–invasive “thrust” delivered manually or by a hand-held instrument called the Integrator. This is intended to remove nerve interference to your body. During your adjustment you won’t feel much more than a thump and many say it feels good.
