BABELWORTH is a native speaker of French with bachelor degrees in French and Marketing and a Certificate of English as a Foreign Language. He has worked as an Engineer for 4 years and for 11 years as a Translator. Don’t let the pseudonym BABELWORTH fool you, there is a human being with a face and a heart behind it… Here is his story:

In 2001, a year after BABELWORTH graduated in Electromechanical Engineering and obtained his English Language Certificate, the first job he secured was French Teacher for English speaking executives of a local company (We will call it here “X Inc.”) . One day, X Inc’s management gave him a few contracts to translate because their usual translator was not available; X Inc’s lawyers loved his style and asked top management to assign him all translation of contracts and marketing papers from that time on.

During the same period, BABELWORTH started translating aviation training books for friends who were working as instructors for an airline (let us call it “Y Airline”). In 2004 “Y Airline” was in need of an instructor at its training center to teach Aerospace/Aviation Special Purpose English to flight attendants, flight crews and mechanics; BABELWORTH’s friends talked to their boss about him and he was hired the same day after a 10 minutes interview.

In 2006, to avoid being added to the blacklist of airlines banned from European airspace, “Y Airline” decided to undergo quality and safety audits. The possession and use of Procedure Manuals was one of the main conditions for compliance to international standards. Knowing BABELWORTH’s writing skills from the study material he was producing at the Training Center, the newly appointed Quality Assurance Manager asked BABELWORTH to join the “Quality Team” for the implementation of the Quality and Safety Systems. While there, BABELWORTH translated reference books and wrote all the manuals (hundreds of pages). BABELWORTH was then appointed to become the first Quality Auditor and Quality Engineer of the aviation industry in his country. After the audit, “Y Airline” was the only company of the whole country not appearing on the blacklist until December 2008. As all airplanes’ manuals are usually in English, no single Maintenance could start before the Technical Department consulted with BABELWORTH for the right interpretation of maintenance instruction. Supplies Management would also come to BABELWORTH’s office before they signed any contract or purchased any service or goods from English speaking countries.

Meanwhile BABELWORTH kept working part-time as a freelance translator. As such, he formed several teams with colleagues locally and abroad widening hence his network in the language industry. He became increasingly on-demand because his expertise was becoming noticeable, thus in 2008, he resigned from “X Airline” to start a new career as a Full-Time Freelance Translator.

Freelancing allowed him to manage his time more efficiently and to work even more professionally.

He also went back to college (evening classes) for a Bachelor of Business Administration/Marketing, widening further his fields of expertise. Now, around the globe, there are peer translators, government agencies, NGOs, International firms, small businesses, churches, individuals, etc. who know they can rely upon BABELWORTH to get the highest quality, on time and at competitive rates.
