About me
certified pros.jpg

I was originally brought up in the grocery and off-licence retail trade. After university I briefly held the licence for the sale of alcohol but sold the business and moved to Germany where I taught English and did translation work. I later returned to the UK.
As as a languages teacher of 25 years experience, I have developed an excellent English style for report writing and advertising and explanatory material of all sorts. I am particularly able to explain instructions and complex material in a readable and understandable style. I have vast experience of editing language teaching materials; one of my first jobs was proofreading language teaching crossword puzzles and website for Strucc Books of Budapest and editing/proofreading answers for a German course book. I have recently translated two English teaching courses from German.

Since taking up translation full-time, I have started to specialise in the translation of contracts and legal materials of all kinds, websites and legal letters. I am at present also company secretary of my husband's forensic and scientific consultancy.

I have a wide general knowledge and can tackle scientific and industrial material with information and the necessary background material; I am particularly good at advertising material and websites.

I have access to support for the translation of forensic material, particularly with regard to textiles, blood/breath analysis and DNA.

I also do regular pro bono translation work for Traducteurs sans Frontières usually involving letters, reports, website material or requests for funding.
I have recently acquired MemoQ and will therefore now be able to accept work in many different file formats.

I am happy to tackle most types of general industrial material and have experience in a wide range of registers.
