Siti Nur Aryani was born in Bandung, December 20. She started learning English when entered kindergarten at Dewi Sartika Kindergarten, Sunda St., Bandung. Started taking English classes at Cinderella (Longman press), Halmahera St., Bandung. She took that course five times a week while she was in first class of elementary school at Embong Elementary, Naripan St., Bandung.

Love the languages
Her interest in writings began at early entering junior high school as did her love of literature, novel, and film. In 1992 she completed an advanced level of English course, at EF, Dago Bandung. While studying in college at Bandung Institute of Technology, she also attended a lecture of English literature at Institute of Vocational Education (now is University of Indonesian Education) for about 2 years. At the same time, she took English course at The British Institute (Oxford University Press), Diponegoro Street Bandung for about 1.5 years. After 1.5 years her first working, she continued with her English language education at TBI Jakarta. Although she spent most of her teen time in organization activities, it was the right momentum where she totally involved in writing activities. However, she began her professional writing activities since 1995.

In her busy day as IT practitioner, it requires her to totally involved in writing activities, especially technical writings. That’s the reason she realized the important role of literature lesson as a way to comprehend the method of communication in foreign language. She learned autodidact the multicultural diverse literature and linguistics, especially Indonesian and English literature. Many of European and American literature and linguistic books authored by Indonesian linguistic experts are learned among her busy day. Aryani loves beating-out foreign dictionaries very much. Those dictionaries are well researched and analyzed.

Her best experience in learning how to translate is by practice directly for more than 10 years. From the experience, she realized a language matter is not as easy as opening a dictionary. Dictionary is only a way. Another important way is to learn the variety of language usage from the wide range of mass media (print, film, television, Web, radio, software). Mass media, especially one that put an attention on linguistics is part of the dictionary itself. It must be admitted that mass media also give big influence for daily language of most people. At this point, she was triggered to interlace good relationship with the journalists of foremost mass media in Indonesia, including man of letters and professor of linguistics. One thing important in Indonesian language usage is through consulting with the linguists. Indonesian language is still labile and could be said has “destitute” vocabularies. It could not be denied that such condition gives less difficult for translator work. Translators who not realize this matter usually have difficult in translating contextually. As a consequence, there are so many found less accurate translations without literature capacity.

The most impressive experience for her is knowing the information technology world. Working experience in years as IT practitioner, rolling out to many locations in entire Indonesia, and assignments to abroad as well as teaching and creating syllabus in college give her considerable experiences in localization and translation. Her specialty in software localization and IT translations brings her to a thought that she won't be able to do such works if she never grappling with that environment. It is because many IT terminologies,-specifically from English language have meaning that not easy to compare with Indonesian vocabularies. She has a notion that technical translations should be conversant with the detail of technology. Many failure translations in Indonesia (among others) are caused by less knowledge of technical matters.

Working Experiences
Before graduated from Computer Science, Bandung Institute of Technology, she was recruited by Fujitsu System Indonesia to be placed in Software Development Department as system analyst. She also ever worked at BMJ, Jakarta for about 3 years as IT project manager. She has been appointed by Murfa Surya Mahardhika as Author of E-Government Development Master Plan for Papua. Full participated as IT Consultant at Fokus Usaha Solusi, Jakarta. February 2002, she was appointed as visiting lecturer for Informatics System Technology, Economy Faculty of University of Indonesia. She also fully participates in managing Aufklärung Communications & Publications, a company for IT Consulting, S/W Development, Testing, Technical Writings, Software Localization, ICT products translations, and general writings. Outside daily activities, she writes articles with various themes published in Daily Newspapers, such as Pikiran Rakyat, Kompas and Biweekly Magazine, SWA.
