I have no set rates for translation, since every translation is individual. A quote can be provided after assessing the level of complexity of the document to be translated, as well as a number of other factors. There are concessions for agencies.

I have created an online German-English glossary, which is specifically for preparing lists of goods and services for trademark applications. It will be supplemented on a regular basis. It is called AEJWörterbuch. Should this type of dictionary be of interest to you, you can presently access it under www.aejtrans.com.

Employed for over six years (until 31st December, 2004) by the largest firm of patent and trademark attorneys in Europe (based in Munich), in a fully bilingual German/English environment.

Graduated Bachelor of Divinity from Aberdeen University, Scotland (06.07.1988), for which I focused on Biblical languages (New Testament Greek, Old Testament Hebrew, and Aramaic). I also studied French and German at university, as well as English language and literature and linguistics.

Subsequently attended Aberdeen College, where I passed SCOTVEC bilingual secretary exams and London Chamber of Commerce exams, including the subjects of translation, summarising a text, interpreting, composing business letters and oral examinations, in French and German. I passed German with Distinction in Translation and Summary.

Shortly after moving to Germany in November 1997 I translated a book about Saxony-Anhalt, gaining broad experience in the main areas of business, economics, politics, culture and education, as well as translating less technical articles about branches of industry, including many branches of engineering and the energy industries, travel and tourism and the food industry.

For over ten years I have been doing legal translations, in particular all kinds of documentation relating to intellectual property, as detailed above.

In addition I have gained experience in translating survey reports and estimates, lease agreements and minutes of meetings, as well as official certificates of various kinds, ranging from school reports and CVs to Registry Office documentation (e.g. marriage and divorce certificates).

I am familiar with CAT tools, and currently use SDL TRADOS Studio 2009 in combination with extensive Multiterm termbases for all projects. I am extremely interested in terminology management.

In January 2004 I obtained the Diploma in Translation of the Institute of Linguists, UK, including the semi-specialised fields of Business (with merit) and Law. In preparation, I also completed a correspondence course in German language and literature, through the medium of German. In September 2004 I was granted professional membership of the Institute of Linguists (MIL), which on 19th July, 2005 became MCIL, upon the Institute of Linguists being awarded a Charter.

Since 1st January, 2005 I have been self-employed as a full-time freelance translator and can be easily contacted at any time during normal working hours. Should I be out of the office for any reason, an automatic return message will inform you when I will be back.
