The accounting and financial policies included in this manual were updated and approved as official policy of the organization effective June 1, 2002. All members and staff are bound by the policies herein, and any deviation from established policy is prohibited. Reference made to United States Agency for International Development (USAID) requirements represent a summary of the major compliance requirements as stipulated in the Cooperative Agreements between ACME and USAID covering all grants in effect as of the date stated above.

It is ACME’s policy to allow members and the public in general to inspect the following records of the organization:

3. Audited annual financial statements
Records Retention
It is ACME’s policy to retain all accounting records and supporting documentation for a period of 5 years. Upon the expiration of the holding period, the documentation shall be destroyed and the destruction of records must be approved via a Records Destruction Request Form.

1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION NEUTRALISING/MINERALISING FILTER
It is undesirable to have domestic water, produced by Desalination Plants such as evaporators and reverse osmosis water makers, with a low pH value (Acid Condition) due to its corrosive and harmful effects.
The water should therefore be treated to make it neutral or slightly alkaline. This acid condition is due to the presence of free carbonic acid gas (CO2) and to ensure its complete removal the water should be filtered through a bed of neutralising filter media, named E.W.T. Compound, where the CO2 combines with the filtering material to form natural bicarbonates.
When distilled water is used for domestic purpose E.W.T. Compound adds a natural taste to the water which is otherwise insipid to the palate. In the past it has been common practice to use marble for this purpose though the reaction is slow and difficulty is experienced in obtaining equilibrium.
E.W.T. Compound is now preferred as its action is rapid and complete having a special structure which makes them rapid and uniformly soluble. The consumption is approximately 1/2 kg (1 lb) of material per 35 m3. of water to be treated. It is sufficient to effect partial reloading 2 - 4 times a year only, to compensate for the quantity which disappears by dissolving in the water.
E.W.T. Compound is supplied in granules packed in 25 kg. It is advisable to occasionally reverse the flow of water through the unit to loosen the medium and to flush after every refill until the water is clear again.
A Neutralising-filter will improve taste and quality of the water. It will avoid corrosion (rust and oxydized particles) in the fresh water system.

É indesejável ter a água doméstica, produzida pelas Unidades de Dessalinização como evaporadores e produtores de água de água por osmose reversa, com baixo valor de pH (condição ácida) devido a seus efeitos prejudiciais e corrosivos.
É preciso então tratar água, a fim de torná-la neutra ou ligeiramente alcalina. Esta condição ácida deve-se à presença de gás carbônico livre (CO2) e para garantir sua completa remoção, a água deve ser filtrada através de um leito de meio filtrante neutralizante, denominado E.W.T. Compound, onde o CO2 combina-se com o material filtrante para formar bicarbonatos naturais.
Quando a água destilada é usada para fins domésticos, o E.W.T. Compound adiciona um sabor natural na água, que por sua vez é insípida ao paladar. No passado, era comum usar mármore para esta finalidade, embora a reação fosse lenta e difícil de se obter o equilíbrio.
Atualmente, é preferível usar o E.W.T. Compound devido à ação rápida e completa, com uma estrutura especial, tornando-se rápido e uniformemente solúvel. O consumo aproximado é de 1/2 kg (1 lb) de material por 35 m3 de água a tratar. É a quantidade suficiente para fazer recargas parciais 2 a 4 ao ano, compensando a quantidade que é dissolvida na água.
