I first became interested in the Japanese language and culture when I had the opportunity to take a Japanese 'taster' at the age of seventeen. I then went on to study Japanese at Cambridge University, graduating in 1994 with a first class honours degree, after which I worked for several years in the reinsurance business, specialising in the Japanese market. This involved frequent trips to Tokyo and first-hand familiarisation with the world of Japanese business. I subsequently worked for the Investor Relations division of Sony Corporation, liaising with European institutional investors in the company across all of its business segments.
I am a qualified Member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting (for Japanese to English translation) and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, as well as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
