The S15 Watergun is capable of delivering a high-frequency, bubble-free acoustic pulse perfectly suitable for very high resolution applications. Compressed air is used to propel a water jet, which creates a vacuum cavity. When the vacuum cavity implodes from the surrounding hydrostatic pressure, it emits a strong bubble-free, high-frequency signal.
The G. GUN has been designed and tested for continuous operation at pressures up to 3,000 psi. When fired at 3,000 psi, the G. GUN will generate 50 percent more acoustic energy than when fired at the standard pressure of 2,000 psi. This gain in energy is achieved in the low frequencies of the spectrum. Sercel designed the 10-917001 Sercel Geophone Tester (SGT) for rapid and accurate field or depot testing of many industry-standard geophones, including, but not limited to, the Sercel SG-10, Sercel HF-10, etc. The SGT can test individual geophones or standard geophone strings.
An SGT consists of an Array Interface Unit (AIU) described in Section 2 of this manual, and an Operation Interface Unit (OIU) described in Sections 3 and 4. The geophone or geophone string under test connects to the AIU. That device, after minimal testing, passes the geophone signals to the OIU, which completes the processing and testing.
The actual OIU can be any of several computer types that meet the operational requirements described in accompanying documentation on the supplied disk.
Field users generally use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) with the Windows® PocketPC® Operating System as described in this manual.
Depot users can use the same device, or any suitable laptop or desktop computer. Such computers use the Windows® 2000 or Windows XP® Operating System as described in Sercel Manual 01-917001-USR.

For 7 years I worked as a Senior translator at the Institute of Volcanology & Seismology, Far East Division, Russian Academy of Sciences, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia. During that period I translated over 50 scientific papers from Russian into English that were published in the International Scientific magazines "Volcanology and Seismology", "Tectonophysics", "Seismic Research", "Journal of Geophysical Research", "Hydrogeology", etc. At that time I participated in the International field expeditions, interpreting scientific talks, conferences, seminars, presentations and slide shows for our colleagues from the US Geological Survey, JPL (NASA), Pasadena, CA, Alaskan Volcano Observatory, etc.

I collaborate with the administration of the Mutnovsky Geothermal Power Plant (hitaveita - Icelandic word) starting from the initial stages of drilling steam boreholes and getting approval for reserves of geothermal energy in 1990s proceeding to present-day production of electricity and heat and relaying them to the populated areas of the Kamchatka Pen. I assisted specialists of the Icelandic National Energy Authority and Virkir Orkint LLC to perform the initial assessment of the hydrothermal resources.
One of the unforgettable experiences of my interpreter's career was a 2,5 months marathon and travel over Kamchatka, Kuriles and Commander Islands with a senior writer of the National Geographic Magazine Mr. Brian Hodgeson who published a series of articles on the Russian Far East and taught me a lot of wonderful things.
