Source text - English Working on a pandemic vaccine ahead of time also allows countries and vaccine manufacturers to develop a fast-track licensing and regulation process that can be used once a pandemic strain emerges. Regardless of which avian influenza strain causes the next pandemic, countries will still need to determine processes for licensing an eventual vaccine, as well as negotiating with companies to determine legal issues such as liability. All of these issues should be considered in advance in order to expedite the eventual production and distribution of a pandemic vaccine. It is highly unlikely that there will be any large quantities of pandemic vaccine available at the start of a pandemic. Once the pandemic strain is identified, it would likely take at least six months to produce any significant quantities of the vaccine. WHO is also urging the international community to find ways to increase manufacturing capacity and ensure that developing countries have access to an effective vaccine at an affordable price. Based on current trends, however, most developing countries will have no access to a vaccine during the first wave of a pandemic, and perhaps throughout its duration. Source text - English Packing in high oxygen is a relatively new and novel concept with food products other than red meats. Oxygen is a colourless, tasteless and odourless gas and although not flammable, it vigorously supports combustion. The use of High Oxygen gas mixtures in the Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) of fresh fruits and vegetables, has been looked at principally from an academic standpoint. Few commercial applications exist, and this technology has to date not been fully exploited, possibly due to mixed results. From those studies that have been carried out with high oxygen MAP, results indicate that high oxygen can be effective at inhibiting enzymic discolouration, prevent anaerobic fermentation reactions and inhibit microbial growth (CCFRA R&D Report 125). It is hypothesised that high oxygen levels damage the vital cellular macromolecules of micro-organisms, inhibiting microbial growth. However, Amanatidou et al. (1999)* suggests that E. coli and L. monocytogenes can be stimulated by O2 levels of 80 - 90%. High oxygen is also thought to hinder polyphenol oxidase, the enzyme responsible for discolouration of prepared fruit and vegetables (CCFRA R&D Report 125). Source text - English What is a depressive illness? Feeling fed up and low in mood is a normal part of life. When difficulties or upsetting events occur it is not unusual to feel down and to not enjoy what is happening. Likewise when good things happen, a person may experience pleasure and a sense of achievement. Usually the reasons for low mood are clear (e.g. a stressful situation, a relationship difficulty such as feeling let down by someone or a practical problem) and the drop in mood only lasts for a short period of time. Occasionally a person’s mood may seem to drop for little or no obvious reason and it may be difficult to begin with to know quite why. In some cases depression can worsen and completely dominate the person’s life. When someone feels very low for more than two weeks and feels like this day after day, week after week, this is called a depressive illness. When depression occurs like this, it affects the person’s mood and thinking. It leads to altered behaviour and creates a range of physical symptoms in their body. How common is depression? Depressive illness is a common experience, which affects about one in 20 people at some time in their lives. You may know friends or relatives who have either felt depressed or have been treated for depression in the past. Depression can affect anyone. Some well-known people have suffered from depression. Source text - English Support Pack Adjustment Do not start rotation until the following checks and any necessary adjustments are made. Observe the positioning of the thoracic side supports. They should be equidistant from the edge of the bed. If they are not then the patient is not centrally located on the bed. Adjust the patient and the packs to achieve this central positioning. When this has been achieved proceed as follows: Pull out locking pin. The bed should be gently turned to the extreme position and locked there. A space of no more than 12mm should appear between the patient’s chest, hip, thigh and the inside of the pack at this angle. This ensures complete relief of pressure as the bed turns. If packs are too tight, return the bed to the horizontal position. Slide both side packs out slightly to maintain central positioning of the patient. Correct adjustment of the lateral packs is best checked with the bed turned to the extreme position, i.e. the last hole in the Drive Circle. If this space is excessive - more than 15mm -the patient will slide from side to side on the bed as it turns. This will cause unnecessary movement and a possible imbalance of the bed. If necessary, the bed may have to be locked again in the horizontal position and readjusted. Correct by sliding side packs inward on both sides of patient to maintain central positioning of the patient. Repeat this procedure until satisfied that the patient is positioned correctly. Is er teveel ruimte (meer dan 15 mm), dan schuift de patiënt heen en weer tijdens het draaien van het bed. Deze onnodige bewegingen kunnen het bed uit balans brengen. Mogelijk moet het bed weer in de horizontale stand worden vergrendeld en vervolgens opnieuw ingesteld. Corrigeer de instelling door de zijsteunen aan weerszijden van de patiënt naar binnen te schuiven. Houd daarbij de patiënt op het midden van het bed. Herhaal deze procedure tot u tevreden bent over de plaatsing van de patiënt.

Source text - English Antitrust and Competition Laws We expect our employees to follow the “letter and spirit” of the antitrust laws of the United States and the competition laws of any other country or group of countries whose laws apply to our business. That means obeying the clearly defined situations covered by the law as well as the intent of the laws in circumstances that are more complex and ambiguous. If an employee is ever unsure whether an action will violate the law, he or she should consult the Law Department. Business competition is a cornerstone of a robust economy, and antitrust and competition laws protect the freedom of the marketplace. In general, antitrust and competition laws prohibit agreements or actions that may restrain trade or reduce competition. One of these U.S. laws, the Sherman Act, makes certain agreements and understandings between competitors per se unlawful. That means they are flatly prohibited and cannot be defended or justified in any way. Whether the understanding or agreement adversely affected competition is not considered; instead it is presumed to be illegal. For example, per se violations include agreements among competitors to: 1) fix or control prices or terms, 2) boycott certain suppliers or customers, 3) allocate products, territories or markets, or 4) limit the production or sale of products. Antitrust and competition laws are complex and difficult to interpret, and they apply to a broad range of corporate activities. Violations can carry serious civil and criminal sanctions. And even the allegation of a violation can be damaging and disruptive to the Company.
