Pulping refers to any process by which wood (or other fibrous raw material) is reduced to a fibrous mass. Basically, it is the means by which the bonds are systematically ruptured within the wood structure. The task can be accomplished mechanically, thermally, chemically, or by combinations of these treatments. Existing commercial processes are broadly classified as mechanical, chemical or semichemical. The general characteristics of these processes are summarized in Table 4-1.
Current annual pulp production by each major process is shown in Table 4-2. Chemical pulping accounts for 70% of North American production, of which 95% is produced by the dominant kraft process. The tabulation shows that semichemical pulping accounts for only about 5% of production; however, "high-yield kraft" and "high-yield sulfite" tonnage now included in the totals for unbleached kraft and sulfite should more appropriately be included under semichemical.
A tally of North American forest-based pulp mills situated in the principal pulp-producing states and provinces (Table 4-3) helps to provide a geographical perspective. It is of interest to note that most of the sulfite mills are located in traditional pulp-producing areas (e.g., Washington, Wisconsin, Ontario, Quebec), while more-recently exploited areas (e.g., Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, British Columbia) are relying principally on the kraft process for chemical pulping.

Termin „roztwarzanie" obejmuje każdy proces, za pomocą którego drewno (lub inny surowiec włóknisty) są przetwarzane do postaci masy włóknistej. W zasadzie jest to metoda systematycznego rozrywania wiązań w strukturze drewna. Cel ten można osiągnąć za pomocą działania mechanicznego, termicznego, chemicznego lub poprzez połączenie tych metod obróbki. Istniejące procesy przemysłowe są klasyfikowane jako mechaniczne, chemiczne lub półchemiczne. Ogólna charakterystyka tych procesów streszczona jest w tabeli 4.1.
Bieżąca roczna produkcja masy celulozowej uzyskiwanej za pomocą poszczególnych procesów podana jest w tabeli 4-2. Roztwarzanie chemiczne stanowi 70% produkcji w Ameryce Północnej, z czego 95% produkowane jest za pomocą dominującego procesu kraft. Z tabeli wynika, iż roztwarzanie półchemiczne stanowi tylko około 5% produkcji, jednakże tonaż z „wysokowydajnego procesu kraft" i „wysokowydajnego procesu siarczynowego" wchodzący w masę niebieloną kraft i siarczynową, gwoli prawidłowości powinien się raczej znajdować w kategorii masy półchemicznej.
Przegląd północnoamerykańskich celulozowni z zapleczem leśnym znajdujących się w stanach i prowincjach będących głównymi producentami masy celulozowej (Tabela 4-3) daje pojęcie o ich geograficznym rozmieszczeniu. Co ciekawe, więszość zakładów stosujących proces siarczynowy znajduje się w tradycyjnych rejonach produkcji masy celulozowej (np. stan Waszyngton, Wisconsin, Ontario, Quebec) podczas gdy obszary, które zaczęto eksploatować ostatnio (np. stany Alabama, Georgia, Luizjana, Kolumbia Brytyjska) opierają się głównie na roztwarzaniu chemicznym kraft.

Jak czytamy w piśmie rozesłanym do mediów, „przeciwko destrukcyjnej polityce zagranicznych banków, w tym w szczególności austriackiego Banku Baiffeisen, wobec polskich firm. Bank Raiffeisen dąży do ogłoszenia upadłości przedsiębiorstwa".
To prawda. Bank przyznaje, że kilka dni temu złożył wniosek o upadłość.

We already have the first public accusation against the banks which turn down the credit tap. Tomorrow Raifeisen Bank Polska and ING Bank Śląski will be picketed by employees of Kielbasa sp. z o.o. meat processing plant.
As we read in a letter sent to the media, it will be a protest against “the destructive policy of foreign banks, especially of the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank, against Polish businesses. Raiffeisen Bank is going to have the company declared bankrupt.”
It’s true. The bank admits that they filed a petition for bankruptcy several days ago.

The official statement from the bank declares that “The efforts for restructuring of Kielbasa's debt undertaken for several months have failed through the company’s fault. The petition for bankruptcy is to ensure transparency of management of the company’s assets as a result of judicial supervision. It will also protect the interests of all creditors, including the Kielbasa's employees”.
