Basically, it is the means by which the bonds are systematically ruptured within the wood structure. The task can be accomplished mechanically, thermally, chemically, or by combinations of these treatments. Existing commercial processes are broadly classified as mechanical, chemical or semichemical. The general characteristics of these processes are summarized in Table 4-1.
Current annual pulp production by each major process is shown in Table 4-2. Chemical pulping accounts for 70% of North American production, of which 95% is produced by the dominant kraft process. The tabulation shows that semichemical pulping accounts for only about 5% of production; however, "high-yield kraft" and "high-yield sulfite" tonnage now included in the totals for unbleached kraft and sulfite should more appropriately be included under semichemical.
A tally of North American forest-based pulp mills situated in the principal pulp-producing states and provinces (Table 4-3) helps to provide a geographical perspective. It is of interest to note that most of the sulfite mills are located in traditional pulp-producing areas (e.g., Washington, Wisconsin, Ontario, Quebec), while more-recently exploited areas (e.g., Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, British Columbia) are relying principally on the kraft process for chemical pulping.
| Translation - Polish Termin „roztwarzanie" obejmuje każdy proces, za pomocą którego drewno (lub inny surowiec włóknisty) są przetwarzane do postaci masy włóknistej.
| | Polish to English: Newspaper article on business* vs bank conflict (*name was changed) | Source text - Polish Złe obce banki kontra polski przedsiębiorca.
Bank Raiffeisen dąży do ogłoszenia upadłości przedsiębiorstwa".
To prawda. Bank przyznaje, że kilka dni temu złożył wniosek o upadłość.
Stare rachunki
| Translation - English Evil foreign banks versus the Polish entrepreneur. Was anybody taken advantage of, or do they want to take advantage of the cliches? We’re in for a butchery.
We already have the first public accusation against the banks which turn down the credit tap. Tomorrow Raifeisen Bank Polska and ING Bank Śląski will be picketed by employees of Kielbasa sp. z o.o. meat processing plant.
As we read in a letter sent to the media, it will be a protest against “the destructive policy of foreign banks, especially of the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank, against Polish businesses. Raiffeisen Bank is going to have the company declared bankrupt.”
It’s true. The bank admits that they filed a petition for bankruptcy several days ago.
Old scores
The official statement from the bank declares that “The efforts for restructuring of Kielbasa's debt undertaken for several months have failed through the company’s fault. The petition for bankruptcy is to ensure transparency of management of the company’s assets as a result of judicial supervision. It will also protect the interests of all creditors, including the Kielbasa's employees”.

TO OUTSOURCERS: My preferred payment term is 30 days from invoice date. TO PEERS: I let everybody track my Kudoz answers! ADDITIONAL SERVICES OFFERED:
- Translation memory database creation: by alignment of source and target texts in Trados WinAlign, SDL Align or Stingray, also in languages other than my default pair;
- OCR processing: I have rich experience in conversion of non-editable formats to word processor formats. I can prepare documents through OCR and post-processing in Word, so that the translator's work with a CAT tool does not turn into a nightmare. This service is offered for most European languages.
- Termbases: If you are having difficulties preparing/importing a bilingual termbase in Multiterm, you want to convert an XML file exported from Multiterm to TMX (or CSV/TXT) or the other way round, I can take care of it.
- Configuration files for CAT tools: I can prepare *.ini files for Trados TagEditor, or XML configuration files for Swordfish, for translation of XML-based formats in these programs.
- Preprocessing for translation in Word: Your client sent you an XML/HTML/other strange-looking format, did not request a specific CAT tool, and you prefer to do it in Word (with Trados or Wordfast), I can preprocess these files for you.
- I also write VBA macros for MS Word. To learn more, please go to my web site.
