About me

Independent Translator - Patent Translation Specialist

American Translator Association Certified
for translation from French into English

Translating patents, patent related documents including: documents for patent prosecution, written opinions of the international search authority, filings in matters of opposition to a patent, filings in matters of patent infringement, EPO administrative decisions, prior art documents

Translating bid requirements, proposals or bid responses, and feature and product specifications

Translating scientific journal articles, books and publications

I am an experienced telecom professional with a doctorate in astronomy.  I am also ATA Certified for translation from French into English.  I am a US native and I have been a full time free-lance translator since 2002.

I specialize in: science (physics, astronomy, organic and pharmaceutical chemistry, and meteorology); math; telecommunications; computer software, hardware, operations and networking; medical instruments; and electronics. I love translating patents!

I do not translate commercial leases or other legal, contractual or financial documents unless they are related to patents and intellectual property (for example patent prosecution, infringement, or opposition), or specifics of scientific or technical products (for example, bid specifications).

I am a member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and the New England Translators Association (NETA).  I am active in NETA; I am a member of the Board of Directors and the organizing committee for the annual conference.  I wrote an article, How to Get and Use Your Own Internet Domain Name, that appeared in the April 2004 ATA Chronicle.

My doctorate in Astronomy from Harvard University and my status as a full-member of the American Astronomical Society testify to my expert knowledge and experience in astronomy, physics and math.  I previously worked as a telecommunications technology, architecture and planning expert for the Chief Technology Officer of an optical networking service provider.  Before that I worked for Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies (formerly part of AT&T) for 13 years planning and designing equipment for SONET and ATM telecommunications networks, and software for network and element management systems. This included customer contact (in French) with France Telecom and Belgacom.

Please see my website, Bien Fait Translations, for further information and samples of my work.
