Hyrdinden og skorstensfejeren
Har du nogensinde set et rigtig gammelt træskab, ganske sort af alderdom og skåret ud med snirkler og løvværk? Just sådant et stod der i en dagligstue, der var arvet fra oldemoder, og udskåret med roser og tulipaner fra øverst til nederst; der var de underligste snirkler og mellem dem stak små hjorte hovedet frem med mange takker, men midt på skabet stod snittet en hel mand, han var rigtignok grinagtig at se på og grine gjorde han, man kunne ikke kalde det at le, han havde gedebukkeben, små horn i panden og et langt skæg. Børnene i stuen kaldte ham altid gedebukkebens-overogundergeneralkrigskommandersergenten, for det var et svært navn at sige, og der er ikke mange der får den titel; men at lade ham skære ud det var også noget. Dog nu var han der jo!
Altid så han hen til bordet under spejlet, for der stod en yndig lille hyrdinde af porcelæn; skoene var forgyldt, kjolen nydelig hæftet op med en rød rose og så havde hun guldhat og hyrdestav; hun var dejlig. Tæt ved hende stod en lille skorstensfejer, så sort som et kul, men i øvrigt også af porcelæn; han var lige så ren og pæn som nogen anden, at han var skorstensfejer, det var jo bare noget han forestillede, porcelænsmageren kunne lige så godt have gjort en prins af ham, for det var ét!
Der stod han med sin stige så nydeligt, og med et ansigt, så hvidt og rødt, som en pige og det var egentligt en fejl, for lidt sort kunne han gerne have været. Han stod ganske nær ved hyrdinden; de var begge to stillet hvor de stod, og da de nu var stillet, så havde de forlovet sig, de passede jo for hinanden, de var unge folk, de var af samme porcelæn og begge lige skrøbelige.
Tæt ved dem stod der nok en dukke, der var tre gange større, det var en gammel kineser, som kunne nikke; han var også af porcelæn og sagde at han var bedstefader til den lille hyrdinde, men det kunne han nok ikke bevise, han påstod at han havde magt over hende, og derfor havde han nikket til gedebukkebens-overogundergeneralkrigskommandersergenten, der friede til den lille hyrdinde.

¿Habéis visto alguna vez un armario realmente antiguo, con la madera ennegrecida por los años, y tallado con flores y espirales? Pues bien, en el salón había uno justo así, que había sido de la bisabuela y estaba tallado de arriba abajo con rosas y tulipanes. En la parte de abajo tenía unos adornos extraños, y entre ellos sobresalían cabecitas de ciervo con sus astas; pero en el centro habían tallado la figura de un hombre que era un poco ridículo y tenía una mueca burlona parecida a una sonrisa, aunque no podía decirse que estuviera riendo. Tenía patas de macho cabrío, cuernecitos en la frente y una larga barba. Los niños de la casa le llamaban General Comandante Sargento Patas de Cabra porque era un nombre difícil de decir y, además, un título así no lo recibe todo el mundo. Tallarlo debió costar mucho trabajo: seguramente se trataba de alguien importante.
Siempre miraba hacia la mesa de debajo del espejo, porque en ese lugar había una pastorcilla de porcelana con zapatos dorados, el vestido adornado con una rosa roja y con sombrero y cayado de oro: ¡era sencillamente encantadora!
Cerca de ella había un pequeño deshollinador, negro como el carbón, pero en realidad tan limpio y pulcro como cualquiera; también era de porcelana y lo de ser deshollinador no era más que la forma que le había dado el artesano. ¡También pudo haber hecho de él un príncipe!
Permanecía de pie, sosteniendo elegantemente su escalera, y tenía el rostro tan blanco y sonrosado como el de una muchacha; lo cual tal vez fuera un error: le habrían quedado bien algunas manchas de tizne. Lo habían puesto bastante cerca de la pastora y, al pasar tanto tiempo juntos, se habían enamorado. Hacían muy buena pareja: ambos eran muy jóvenes, estaban hechos de la misma porcelana y eran igual de frágiles.
Detrás de ellos había otra figura tres veces más grande que ellos: era un viejo chino que podía asentir con la cabeza. También era de porcelana y afirmaba ser el abuelo de la pastorcilla, aunque no podía demostrarlo. En todo caso, decía que tenía autoridad sobre ella y, por tanto, cuando el General Comandante Sargento Patas de Cabra pidió la mano de la pastorcilla, asintió y se la concedió.

The Bayern Munich ‘keeper’ was his usual brilliant self, stopping everything the Lithuanians threw at him. Ever since that 2-0 triumph, Kahn’s forbidding presence has been a German pillar of strength during ‘The Mannschaft’s’ run up to the Finals.

World Championship Poker
Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple and Tahoe
These are three different styles of Texas Hold’em. You are initially dealt three cards instead of two. In Pineapple, you immediately discard one of the three cards you are dealt, and the poker game proceeds exactly as in Texas Hold’em. In Crazy Pineapple, you discard the third card after the second betting round, before the fourth community card is dealt. In Tahoe, you keep all three cards through showdown, but may not use all three of them to make a poker hand—you may use none, one, or two cards from your hand, combined with those on the board, to make your final five-card hand.

Ahora, en el año 2366, SolGov ocupa un área de más de cuatrocientos años luz con sistemas adaptados a la vida humana alrededor de la Tierra. Los superpoderes políticos de SolGov son la Tierra y el gigantesco Halo Leonidis (un anillo de hábitats industriales y estaciones espaciales rusoamericanas en órbita alrededor de la Tierra donde viven millones de personas), y especialmente el planeta judeoarábico Qahira (antiguamente conocido como Marte). Durante el explosivo desarrollo de las industrias de adaptación de nanotecnología y antimateria se fundaron muchos otros planetas prósperos.
