Chemicals play a part in almost all human activities and are a major contributor to national economies. However, whenever chemicals are not properly managed they can put human health, ecosystems, and national economies at risk. Impact-related public health and environmental issues arising from the use or misuse of chemicals can include increased healthcare costs, reduced worker productivity, damage to fisheries and watersheds, reduced crop output, and many others. The need for effective management of chemicals throughout their life-cycle of production and use is underscored both by the substantial contribution chemicals make to social and economic development, and the significant threats to humans and the environment that arise from their improper use and management.
Chemicals also affect sustainable human development, with the poorest members of the global community, particularly women and children, most vulnerable to their negative effects. The urban and the rural poor routinely face unacceptably high risks of exposure to chemicals because of their occupations, living conditions and lack of knowledge about proper handling. At the same time the ecosystems that provide essential resources for the survival of the rural poor are threatened by chemical pollution and environmental degradation.

Throughout the western world the word tattoo has its origins derived from a small group of 12 volcanic islands situated in the Polynesian pacific known as the Marquesas, it is here that the word ‘tattow’ or ‘tatau’, meaning ‘to mark something’ originates. For centuries the Marquesans were feared due to the cannibalistic rituals of the inhabitants. Entire groups of tribes-men, women and children were tattooed from their fingertips to their toes, under the hairline, on their genitals and even in their mouths. Boys and girls as young as 8 where tattooed in preparation for puberty and the process for many was not complete until the age of 30. Unique to the Marquesas was the solid black and layered tattooing known as pahupahu. It was commonly applied to boys or warriors as a disguise and separated them from all other Polynesian tattoo forms. Nowhere in the world even today can this the most extreme form of tattooing be found. As with Marquesans, Mario and Yvonne share the same philosophy, seeing themselves as living and on going works of art, to be treasured in their own right. Approximately 95% of Marios body has been tattooed in multiple layers and each layer incorporates a wide variety of designs and symbols that pertain to Yantra, the magical diagram. | Translation - French

Les îles Marquises ont été redoutées pendant des siècles en raison des rituels cannibales de leurs habitants. Des tribus entières d’hommes, de femmes et d’enfants étaient tatouées des doigts aux orteils, sur le crane, les organes génitaux et même à l’intérieur de la bouche. The first day's work included a general introduction on the strengths and weaknesses of wine tourism. There was a lively discussion among the representatives of the different sites, followed by a separate presentation from each partner on its own experiences from the point of view of developing wine tourism and the initiatives that had been taken to improve it. The main theme of the second day was “Policies for the successful development of sustainable wine tourism in the Vitour network”. The principal questions to answer were: what added value, up until now, had the UNESCO label given to the development of wine tourism? What were the benefits for the wine-growing network? How is it possible to turn marketing wine into marketing regional produce in a broader sense?
This was followed by a PowerPoint presentation concerning the marketing activities carried out in Italy by the National Association Città del Vino and in Europe by Recevin (the European Network of Wine Cities), in order to give the discussion a more practical focus and to share some operational tips on how this works in practice. Afterwards, the results of the Vintur project were presented: this was an Interreg IIIC project, which ended in March.

Lors de la première journée, une introduction générale a présenté les points forts et les points faibles de l'œnotourisme. Après une discussion animée entre les représentants des différents sites, chaque partenaire a présenté ses expériences personnelles en ce qui concerne le développement de l'œnotourisme et les initiatives prises pour l'améliorer. Le thème principal de la deuxième journée s'intitulait "Politiques pour la réussite du développement d'un œnotourisme durable au sein du réseau Vitour". Les principales questions auxquelles il fallait répondre étaient: quelle valeur ajoutée le label UNESCO a-t-il apporté, à ce jour, au développement de l'œnotourisme? Quels avantages le réseau vinicole en a-t-il retiré? Comment peut-on passer du marketing du vin au marketing d'un produit régional pris dans son sens le plus large?
Une présentation PowerPoint a suivi et présentait les opérations de marketing menées en Italie par l'Association nationale Città del Vino et en Europe par Recevin (le réseau européen des capitales du vin), afin que la discussion porte sur des aspects plus pratiques et facilite les échanges d'informations sur la mise en pratique sur le terrain. Ensuite, on assista à la présentation des résultats du projet Vintur: il s'agissait d'un projet Interreg IIIC qui s'est achevé en mars.
