Le « Repos du Développement National sur la Propriété Intellectuelle » est ainsi devenu un objectif national pour la première fois depuis la période Meiji. Source text - French Paris, 27 octobre 2006 Tests biologiques : un nouveau venu plus sensible et moins coûteux Des chercheurs du CNRS et de l'ESPCI (1) ont découvert une nouvelle méthode de détection des maladies infectieuses telles que le SIDA ou les hépatites. Analogue à un test de grossesse, elle serait aussi bon marché et 1000 fois plus sensible que la méthode actuellement utilisée. Elle permettrait un dépistage précoce, grâce à une machine portative accessible aux pays les plus défavorisés. Aujourd'hui, il existe deux méthodes pour dépister les maladies infectieuses. La première, nommée LAI (latex agglutination assay) est un test en une seule étape, facile à mettre en œuvre et peu coûteux, mais dont la sensibilité est limitée (2). Il ne convient pas aux dépistages précoces. La seconde méthode, nommée ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay), nécessite plusieurs étapes. Elle est basée sur la reconnaissance de deux anticorps différents, avec des lavages entre chaque étape, mais permet d'atteindre des concentrations mille fois plus faibles (3) que LAI. Ce test est pratiqué pour toutes les maladies infectieuses avec un automate compliqué et coûteux, dont seuls les plus grands centres médicaux sont équipés. Des chercheurs du CNRS et de l'ESPCI (1) ont inventé un nouveau principe de test. Grâce à ce principe, le test serait aussi simple et bon marché que LAI et aussi sensible qu'ELISA. Il serait particulièrement intéressant pour les dépistages précoces dans les pays défavorisés ou la méthode ELISA est peu répandue. Toutes les méthodes de test se fondent sur la reconnaissance de l'antigène (corps étranger à l'organisme) par un anticorps spécifique. Antigène et anticorps se lient alors pour former un complexe, ce qui doit se traduire par un signal mesurable. Pour détecter le complexe, l'anticorps est lié à des colloïdes (4). Dans la méthode LAI, l'antigène forme des ponts entre colloïdes ce qui rend la solution plus ou moins trouble. La détection est une simple mesure de turbidité. Les chercheurs du CNRS et de l'ESPCI ont eu l'idée de greffer les anticorps sur un colloïde magnétique. Lorsqu'ils mettent ces particules en présence des antigènes et d'un champ magnétique, le taux de formation du complexe augmente de façon drastique, car les particules forment des chaînes, qui piégent les antigènes. Cette organisation permet de gagner un facteur 1000 en sensibilité. En 2002, les chercheurs ont déposé un brevet pour protéger leur idée. Elle est aujourd'hui en phase de développement dans deux sociétés pour les applications en santé humaine, par exemple pour détecter le VIH de façon précoce avec un appareil portatif, ou pour l'armée, afin de détecter les attaques terroristes fondées sur la contamination de la population par des maladies infectieuses. Researchers at the NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH and ESPCI (1)have invented a new testing principle. Thanks to this principle, the test would also be as simple as, and cheaper than LAI and as sensitive as ELISA. It would be particularly interesting for early diagnoses in underprivileged countries where ELISA is not well deployed. All methods of test are based on the recognition of antigens (foreign bodies in an organism) by a specific antibody. Antigen and antibody associate to form a complex, which must be translated by a measurable signal. To discern the complex, the antibody is linked to colloids (4). In LAI, the antigen forms bridges between colloids which renders a more or less cloudy solution. Detection is a simple measure of turbidity. The researchers at the NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH and ESPCI had the idea of grafting antibodies onto a magnetic colloid. When they put these particles in the presence of antigens and in a magnetic field, the rate of formation of the complex increases drastically, because the particles form chains, which trap antigens. This organization allows a gain in sensitivity by a factorof 1000. In 2002, the researchers registered a patent to protect their idea. It is currently at the development stage in two countries for applications in human health , for instance for early detection of HIV with a portable machine, or for the army, for detecting terrorist biological attacks involving contamination of the population by infectious diseases. About me

As a teacher & practitioner of Acupuncture & Homeopathy I became aware of the great wealth of research & information on complementary, alternative "energy" medicines available in the french language by such great scholars & practitioners as Yves Requena & Dr Nghi's former student Dr Tran Van Dzung (in the Vietnamese tradition). Most of it is not yet available to the english speaking world. This led me to start start out translating works for my own interest.
12 years in the fields of commercial Real Estate brokerage development and finance as a Real Estate, mortgage and Stockbroker have given me a strong familiarity with legal and financial documentation.
My mother was french & I attended the Lycee Francais de Londres where all classes were held in french, before going to english boarding schools where I continued with french classes. We used to spend summer holidays in Provence with my grandparents, so my ability in the french language was acquired naturally.
A classical education at Eton College gave me good training in the use of the english language, followed by thirty years in the United States gave me the ability write well in US and British english as required.
