Christie Projection helps Sanctuary Nightclub set a new standard in Dubai’s Nightlife
Sanctuary Nightclub has set a new standard in Dubai’s Nightlife by, it claims – going back to basics – the best DJs, stunning décor, lighting & visual effects. Sanctuary is taking Dubai into the forefront of nightlife – and far beyond, using Christie projection to add an innovative slant to the venue’s visual landscape.
The interior is fittingly stunning and stands to impress. The state-of-the-art design relies upon the added depth of wall and ceiling projection to enhance the light and visual extravaganza. Throughout Sanctuary Nightclub, 28 Christie LX500 XGA LCD 5000 lumen projectors – supplied by Dubai-based Venuetech – are detailed in the dance environments assisting in a variety of functions and applications; Main Dance Floor, Main Room VIP area's and Velvet Lounge Room, and smaller key locations on entry and in the restrooms.
Ryan Marginson, Production Technical Manager at Sanctuary Nightclub, observes, “From many years of experience within the entertainment industry I have been exposed to many brands of projectors, media servers and all types of entertainment equipment. Not just from experience but knowledge of understanding the requirements of the entertainment world, Christie projectors are by far top of the range. The use of Christie Projectors exemplifies the standard of this installation. The projectors are great to use: simple, very reliable with a large range of features, but ultimately the image clarity is superb and matched only by the after sale customer support."
At the entrance to Sanctuary Nightclub, ceiling-mounted Christie LX500’s project straight down onto the foyer floor. Integrated with interactive video projection software provided by Luminvision Ltd, movement is captured from and around the projected surface with an infra red camera. The image is then manipulated according to its programming. Marginson adds, "Currently, we are running a water program so that as patrons enter the venue, the projected surface ripples like they are walking on water. We can customise applications, and theme them to our events.”"
The centrepiece of the Main Room is a surrounding projected montage of up to eight blended and individual projection surfaces covering almost 270 degrees around the dance floor. Of the room’s total 12 LX500s, eight focus on the projection wall, whilst the remainder project on to the dome directly above the dance floor.
The eight-projection montage is controlled through media servers provide by Coolux Pandora's Box. This integration has allowed the designers, with Marginson, to blend multiple images over curved and flat surfaces. The 3D warping tools that come with Coolux's Pandora's Box has allowed the team to distort an image and control the projected path onto several surfaces – but from only one projector.
The projection content can be manipulated across the full, eight projector image area enabling video clips and logos to be spread from one side of the room to the other. Marginson plans to add more Christie projection to the space – giving a full 360-degree aspect around the dance floor: "I can't wait to have patrons spinning out when they try to follow the projections!"
The dome receives an edge-blended collage from four projectors, with constantly-update content delivered via a Martin Maxedia Compact. From the lighting console, Marginson controls the entire lighting and visual extravaganza with accurate precision and beat-matching steps.
Venuetech’s technical director, Elie Khairallah, commented, “It is always satisfactory to supply Christie equipment as the quality always far exceeds the client’s expectations. They are always impressed with the look of the resulting projection because it is so bright and clear – and the projectors are also so easy to use. На входе в клуб Sanctuary на потолке установлен проектор Christie LX500, проецирующий изображение прямо вниз, на пол фойе. Инфракрасная камера, работающая в связке с поставленным компанией Luminvision Ltd. видеопроекционным программным обеспечением, обнаруживает движение близи места проекции. В соответствии с получаемыми от ИК-камеры данными, программа выполняет обработку изображения. «В данный момент используется т.н. «водная» программа и входящие в клуб клиенты как будто идут по воде», продолжил Маргинсон. «Мы можем менять программу и эффекты в соответствии с темой устраиваемой вечеринки».
Изюминкой главного зала является панорамная 270-градусная проекция по периметру танцевальной зоны, состоящая из восьми сшиваемых и отдельных изображений. Всего в зале установлено 12 проекторов LX500, восемь из которых создают панорамную проекцию, а остальные — проекцию на потолке прямо над танцевальной зоной.
Для управления восемью проекторами, формирующими панорамную проекцию, используется медиа-сервер Pandora's Box компании Coolux. Это позволяет возглавляемым Маргинсоном дизайнерам сшивать изображения, проецируемые на искривленные и на плоские поверхности. Входящее в комплект медиа-сервера Pandora's Box программное обеспечение для 3D контроля и деформации изображений позволяет вносить в изображение необходимые искажения и управлять проекцией на несколько поверхностей — но только для одного проектора.
Проецируемые изображения (видеоклипы, надписи и т.п.) могут перемещаться и размещаться в пределах всей создаваемой восемью проекторами панорамной проекции, с одной стороны зала на другую. Маргинсон планирует установить дополнительные проекторы Christie, чтобы получить круговую, 360-градусную панорамную проекцию вокруг всей танцевальной зоны: «Я надеюсь, что наши клиенты не потеряют голову, разглядывая такую панораму!»

A HANDHELD SPECTRUM ANALYZER OFFERING HIGH PERFORMANCE FROM A SMALL FOOTPRINT
At the heart of the instrument is an ASIC processor with a 32-bit RISC processor, a display controller and elements for controlling the periphery such as the RS-232 interface or the power sensor. The processor is used for operating the instrument, controlling the measurement sequences and calculating and displaying the results. Management of the power supply and the nickel metal hydride battery is handled by a separate ASIC.
The RF receive path is designed as a threefold converting superheterodyne receiver with a high first intermediate frequency. With damage prevention being a key consideration in such instruments, the RF input is particularly well protected by a combination of overvoltage arrester, PIN diodes and capacitive coupling so that the attenuator or the input mixer will not be damaged if high voltage is inadvertently applied or if electrostatic discharge occurs.
The instrument's mode of operation is such that the first local oscillator with a high frequency range of 4031.25 to 7031.25 MHz converts the input frequency to the first intermediate frequency (4031.25 MHz) and consists of three voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), each covering a frequency range of 1 GHz. Two components specially developed for synthesizers - a high-frequency predivider and a divider for fractional division ratios with integrated phase detector - generate a sweep that is synchronized to the 10 MHz temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) at each frequency point. The SMPL therefore represents receive signals at the correct frequency even with large display ranges of the order of 3 GHz.
Signal processing starting at the last intermediate frequency is purely digital. An A/D converter digitizes the 31.25 MHz IF signal and two integrated circuits perform all other processing steps such as IF filtering, envelope detection, logarithmation, video filtering and signal detection in real time. The main processor retrieves and displays the configured data.
Using this concept the spectrum analyzer offers the functions and characteristics provided by desktop units but implements them on the small footprint of a handheld unit. For instance it offers resolution bandwidths from 1 kHz to 1 MHz in a 1-3-10 sequence. These bandwidths are designed for optimum settling in the frequency sweep with Gaussian filter characteristics. The common method of using a four-pole analog filter with decoupled contacts also yields a virtually Gaussian filter characteristic in the passband but at the expense of selectivity. Характерной особенностью прибора является первый гетеродин, работающий в диапазоне частот от 4031,25 до 7031,25 МГц, обеспечивающий преобразование частоты сигнала в первую ПЧ (4031,25 МГц) и состоящий из трех генераторов управляемых напряжением с диапазоном перестройки 1 ГГц каждый. Для синтезаторов частоты были специально разработаны два компонента — высокочастотный предварительный делитель и делитель с дробным коэффициентом и встроенным фазовым детектором, — формирующие качающуюся частоту, синхронизированную в каждой частотной точке с термокомпенсированным кварцевым генератором (TCXO) 10 МГц. Благодаря этому SMPL обеспечивает правильное отображение частот принимаемых сигналов в частотном диапазоне до 3 ГГц.
Обработка сигнала начинается на последней ПЧ и является полностью цифровой. АЦП оцифровывает сигнал ПЧ 31,25 МГц, а две ИС выполняют все последующие этапы обработки сигнала, такие как фильтрация ПЧ, детектирование огибающей, логарифмирование, видеофильтрация и детектирование сигнала в реальном времени.
